Some of them have even tried their hands at music either before joining the wrestling business or after doing so. While most have fallen flat on their face during their music careers, a few have become professional musicians.

Let’s take a look at 10 famous superstars who have tried their hands at music.

#10 Randy Savage

Arguably one of the best wrestlers the WWE has ever seen also thought he could take a shot at a music career. The late wrestler stepped into the world of rap music around 2003 after he saw his wrestling career fade away.

His first, and only, full-length album titled Be A Man was released in 2003 and was not vey well received. He even wrote a track to diss Hulk Hogan, which had the same title as the album. Savage toured the album and wished to record a few more, but that never happened.

#9 Zack Ryder

Zack Ryder is undoubtedly one of the most poorly treated wrestlers in the WWE. He’s shown time and time again that he’s as good a wrestler as any other guy in the company, but hasn’t even been kept to the mid-cards.

However, Ryder has found much-needed success through his YouTube web called Z! True Long Island Story since February 2011. After that, Ryder also decided to give singing a go and has given voice to a few songs since.

In 2013, Ryder released a music video titled “Hoeski”. Surprisingly, the song was a huge success and amassed over 100,000 views on YouTube in less than four 96 hours. The song was later also posted on WWE’s official YouTube channel and peaked at No. 92 on the iTunes Pop Music Charts.

#8 Hulk Hogan

One of the most iconic wrestlers ever also tried to make it big in the music industry. However, he did so before he became a professional wrestler. The band was called Ruckus and was quite popular in the Tampa area.

The superstar stopped performing music as soon as he became a sports entertainer, and no mention of his past career was made on the WWE Network. After rising to fame in the wrestling business, Hogan did try his hands at an acting career too.

Sadly, it wasn’t over just there as Hogan returned by forming another band called The Wrestling Boot Band in 1995 with wrestling manager Jimmy Hart and his wife. The band focused on pop and hip-hop music and released their first album titled Hulk Rules which drew negative reviews everywhere.

#7 R-Truth

“WHAT’S UP!?”

R-Truth has been singing his entrance theme since the dawn of time. We’re sure that almost everyone reading this article is sick of it by now, and probably understand why the extremely talented superstar is stuck in a rut with the WWE.

But since everyone has a passion or two, so does R-Truth, who has released two full-length albums to date. The first one was released in 2003 titled Invinceable, while the second one took over 13 years to follow the first and was released in 2016 titled Killingit.

We wish R-Truth all the success in both his wrestling and music career, as he had aspired to become a wrestler and a musician at a very young age, and worked hard to achieve both his dreams.

#6 Mickie James

Mickie James has seen many runs with the WWE, and a few with other companies. The woman is one of the best female wrestlers in the business and deserves a lot of respect.

Mickie James also tried her hand at music after taking some time off from the WWE initially. The country music singer was actually quite good at what she did and could make it a full-time career after she retires from wrestling.

After setting up a Kickstarter, she made enough money thanks to her fans and has released two albums to date. Thankfully, the superstar is much better respected and treated by the company and the fans now as compared to her initial run.

#5 Lita

Lita formed a band in mid-2006 under her real name Amy Dumas. When she saw that her wrestling career would come to an end sooner than later, she decided it was time to find something new to do on the back of her popularity.

This gave birth to The Luchagors which Amy Dumas ran for eight years before they disbanded in 2014. The rock chick of the WWE fronted the band and did so pretty well. The four-member punk rock band released a single album during this time and generated more than 10,000 iTunes sales.

After trying to take the band international, The Luchagors announced a UK tour but that failed miserably. This resulted in the band taking a hiatus, and disbanding a few years later.

#4 Lilian Garcia

One of the best singers on the list, Lilian Garcia aspired to become a musician at a very young age. She wanted to do so in her hometown in Spain but moved onto the WWE in 1999. She worked with the company for almost two decades, and they decided to let her sign and show her other talents on TV on a few occasions.

She performed the national anthem on WWE TV in the wake of 9/11, which remains one of her most memorable and iconic performances yet. Other than that, she has recorded and released a number of tracks and three full-length albums to date.

#3 John Cena

Almost all wrestling fans know that John Cena once tried his hands at a music career, and tried extremely hard. The Doctor of Thugonomics started off by signing his own entrance themes. He first recorded “Basic Thugonomics”, which was followed by the immensely popular “My Time is Now”.

The latter became a crowd favorite and has remained Cena’s theme for over a decade without the crowd getting sick of it. However, it gave the internet a lot of interesting memes too.

It didn’t just end there (even though it should have), as Cena recorded and released an entire album after making it big in the WWE. The self-proclaimed rap icon’s album title You Can’t See Me did relatively well on the charts thanks to his popularity and connection with the WWE Universe.

Cena is now becoming increasingly popular in the acting business, and is landing one role after another.

#2 Jeff Hardy

It seems like Jeff Hardy is one of the most talented wrestlers to ever take the ring in the WWE. His in-ring abilities are second to none and are admired by many. He is a great artist and expresses himself during each outing with his face-painting.

Along with this, he was also in a band called PeroxWhy?Gen. Yes, you read it right. That’s the name of the band he formed with former WWE-star Shanon Moore in 2003. Hardy wanted to become a Rockstar since he was a kid, and came up with the name while reading the contents of an aerosol can.

Currently, Hardy had gone into the music career as a solo artist and recently released a new album. While speaking to the WWE, Hardy said:

“My songs have always been journal entries to me. It’s very honest and open about everything I’ve been through in life. It’s therapy for me, actually, just like painting. If I see a blank canvas and I have an image in my mind, I’m gonna do my best to bring it to life.
Same thing with music – I hear something, I just get obsessed with it. All I need is that opening line, find a good hook for the chorus, and I’m gonna finish that song.”

“Ladies and Gentlemen, Elias” (Special Mention)

Currently a rising star in the WWE, Elias has released a single Extended Play titled WWE: Walk With Elias. The album was released in 2018 and reached number 13 on the Top 100 US albums on iTunes on the first day of release. This is mainly due to his current active status on the WWE, and the company’s push he is receiving for his music.

Elias performs all songs in his character of a guitar-playing drifter and is usually seen in the middle of the ring on Monday Nights trying to perform for the WWE Universe before being interrupted by someone or the other.

It remains to be seen how far Elias will take his music career, and whether it is actually a long-term prospect of the superstar or just a gimmick for the WWE.

#1 Chris Jericho

By far the most successful musician on the list, Y2J Chris Jericho has been making music since 1999. He started his first band named Fozzy, and they have stuck together for the past two decades.

Fozzy is extremely successful and famous and is fronted by one of the best wrestlers of our time. The band has released a total of seven albums and toured excessively over the years. It’s quite impressive how Jericho has juggled perfectly between a successful wrestling and music career.

The band has also performed for the WWE on several occasions, and there remains little doubt that they will continue to do so for a long time if Jericho returns to the company.
