10 WWE Superstars with matches at WrestleMania 36 and their records at the PPV

This year's event will be historic.
This year's event will be historic.

When you think of the top names from WrestleMania's past, you probably go to Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, the Rock, Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin. But even though those names are some of the most synonymous with success in WWE, they all don't have winning records at the Show of Shows.

Hogan is 8-3-1 while Hart (8-6) and Austin (5-2) also have winning tallies at the event. The Rock was only 6-5 while Michaels (6-11) and even Triple H (10-13) had records well under .500. Just because they were huge names and among the biggest stars of their eras, it didn't always translate into success at the year's biggest PPV.

This year's show has a unique blend of veterans with many appearances (Randy Orton, Undertaker, John Cena) and Superstars from the current generation that are building their resumes. Roman Reigns has ruled the main event over the last five years while Drew McIntyre hopes to join him as an annual main-event star. So which performers with matches on WrestleMania weekend have surprising records and which ones line up with what you would think? Here are the WrestleMania records of 10 WWE stars with matches at this year's Show of Shows.

#10 Roman Reigns (5-2)

The Big Dog
The Big Dog

Since he's been posited as the top Superstar in the company, it makes sense that Reigns would have a good record at the biggest show of the year. His losses were mainly to two of his biggest rivals. One was to Seth Rollins when the latter cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 31. The Big Dog also fell to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 when challenging for the Universal Championship.

Outside of those two losses, however, Reigns has been dominant at the Show of Shows. He was victorious with the Shield at the each member's first foray at WrestleMania 30. Reigns would next defeat Triple H at WrestleMania 32 for the WWE Championship while also adding a second loss to the Undertaker's 'Mania resume at WrestleMania 33.

As Reigns was out dealing with Leukemia last year, his match wasn't as high profile as it usually is. He still did face a tough challenge in Drew McIntyre but there was no way that Reigns was losing in his first singles match since returning from his illness.

#9 Goldberg (1-1)

Goldberg has only a few appearances at the Show of Shows.
Goldberg has only a few appearances at the Show of Shows.

Despite his status as a WWE Legend, the current Universal Champion has only competed at two WrestleManias. Part of that is due to being a steadfast member of WCW during the Monday Night Wars. The other part is due to only having a two-year run with WWE during his first stint. With more appearances over the last few years, he still will only be making his third appearance at the Showcase of the Immortals this year.

Goldberg and Lesnar squared off at WrestleMania 20 with the Master of the Spear picking up the win. The Beast got his win back at WrestleMania 33 when he took the Universal Championship from the former WCW Champ.

This year will be an interesting showing once again for the WWE Legend due to his opponent. With Roman Reigns being groomed to finally take over atop SmackDown, it appears that Goldberg's record at the Show of Shows might dip below .500. He likely wasn't sticking around for very long after his appearance at Super ShowDown, but by taking the title from The Fiend, it necessitates a match at WrestleMania 36 for Goldberg.

#8 John Cena (10-4)

John Cena
John Cena

There was a time in WWE when a John Cena loss was unheard of. From about 2004-2016, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Cena would be winning any match in which he participated.

The Grandest Of Them All was no different. The Face That Runs the Place has compiled a 10-4 record at the Showcase of the Immortals. His losses include falling to the Triple H in a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 24 and a high-profile loss to The Miz at WrestleMania 27. That loss was used to set up his matches with The Rock in the following years.

Cena would lose to The Brahma Bull the next year and as well as to The Undertaker in an impromptu match at WrestleMania 34.

In the win column, The Cenation Leader racked up plenty of noteworthy victories in April. He won title matches against JBL (WrestleMania 21), Big Show and Edge (WrestleMania 25), against Batista (WrestleMania 26) and opposing Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 23).

Cena also beat The Rock (WrestleMania 29) and Triple H (WrestleMania 22). He also holds wins over The Big Show (WrestleMania 20), Bray Wyatt (WrestleMania 30), in a tag match with Nikki Bella against the Miz and Maryse (WrestleMania 33) and Rusev (WrestleMania 31).

#7 Bray Wyatt (0-3)

Wyatt has an unfortunate record at 'Mania.
Wyatt has an unfortunate record at 'Mania.

WrestleMania has not been kind to Bray Wyatt. It seems like he would wonderfully perform his promos leading up to his matches with John Cena, The Undertaker and Randy Orton. But when it came time for the rubber to hit the road so to speak, Wyatt was always booked to lose.

Against The Undertaker, it was expected as the Phenom would rebound as he had lost his undefeated streak to Brock Lesnar the previous year. Unfortunately for Wyatt, he was the next opponent in line to face The Undertaker and his legendary record at the Showcase of the Immortals.

In the canon of the storyline with John Cena, it made sense for the hero to overcome the villain in that story. It was unfortunate that it lead to a loss of credibility for Wyatt but we wouldn't have The Fiend had he beaten Cena.

The one match that I would have had Wyatt win would have been against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33. Wyatt had just won the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber the month before. But since the Viper had won the Royal Rumble and could challenge for the title at 'Mania, it was a natural pairing for the PPV.

What could have worked wonders, however, was having Wyatt retain over Orton. The Legend Killer didn't need another huge win at the Show of Shows whereas Wyatt could have really used it. The proof of that point is that Orton would lose the title to Jinder Mahal so quickly after winning it.

#6 Edge (6-4)

The Rated R Superstar will compete at his first 'Mania since 2011.
The Rated R Superstar will compete at his first 'Mania since 2011.

Prior to his retirement in 2011, Edge was a fixture in some fashion at WrestleMania. Whether competing in insane TLC matches, a Money in the Bank match or in a title match, the Rated-R Superstar had several big moments at the Show of Shows.

Edge picked up wins in his first two showings, winning a Triple Threat tag tam match (WrestleMania 17) and also by beating Booker T the next year. He also defeated two other teams at WrestleMania 2000 alongside Christian and he also won a MITB match (WrestleMania 21). The Rated R Superstar also toppled Alberto Del Rio (WrestleMania 27) and Mick Foley in a hardcore match (WrestleMania 22).

When he wasn't victorious at the Showcase of the Immortals, it was usually to big names. He would fail to capture the MITB briefcase at WrestleMania 23 while he also fell to The Undertaker the following year. He would lose to John Cena at WrestleMania 24 and to Chris Jericho at 2010's event. How will he fare in his first match at the Grandest Of Them All since 2011? Will he get his revenge on Randy Orton?

#5 Randy Orton (6-9)

The Viper
The Viper

Despite his spot as one of the biggest WWE Superstars over the last 15 years, the former Legend Killer actually has a WrestleMania record under .500. You'd think he'd have a record like 10-5 in 15 matches but he's actually only 6-9 at the event.

He picked up his first win at 'Mania alongside Evolution as his team defeated Mick Foley and The Rock in 2004. The Viper would then win against Triple H and John Cena (WrestleMania 24), both Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase (WrestleMania 26) and CM Punk (WrestleMania 27). Orton then defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31 and Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 33. He missed WrestleMania 32.

Orton's status as a top Superstar in the company actually saw him falling at the PPV more than triumphing. He fell to The Undertaker at the Show of Shows in 2005 and then to Rey Mysterio the next year in a Triple Threat for the World Heavyweight title. Another loss came at WrestleMania 23 in the MITB match and to Triple H at WrestleMania 25.

Orton also fell to Kane (WrestleMania 28), The Shield (WrestleMania 29) and Daniel Bryan (WrestleMania 30). His last two 'Manias also saw him losing to Jinder Mahal and AJ Styles respectively.

#4 AJ Styles (3-1)

The Phenomenal One
The Phenomenal One

Styles has one of the briefest runs at the Show of Shows due to only joining the WWE in 2016. But in his four contests, he's 3-1. His first match at the biggest show in the industry was a loss to Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 32. After that, however, he hasn't lost at the Showcase of the Immortals. Will that change this year against The Phenom?

Whether or not he falls doesn't dismiss the fact that Styles has picked up three wins in four appearances at WrestleMania. His victories include defeating Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 33 and Shinsuke Nakamura the next year in a defense of the WWE Championship. His latest victory was at last year's show against Randy Orton.

Had he been signed by the WWE even years before, his record could have been much different. But against a seething Phenom, does Styles have much of a chance to thwart Taker from adding another win to his illustrious 'Mania record?

Whatever the case is, the name Styles is one that stands alongside Michaels, Cena, Triple H and The Rock. He's one of the best of all time and a match this year against the Phenom cements that.

#3 The Undertaker (24-2)

The Deadman
The Deadman

The Undertaker has the most illustrious streak at the Show of Shows. It became akin to having a title match at the PPV. Since his debut in 1990, The Phenom dispatched of the likes of Mark Henry, the Big Show, Jimmy Snuka, Shawn Michaels (twice), Orton, Edge and Triple H (three times). He also downed Diesel, Kane (twice), Batista and CM Punk before the infamous match at WrestleMania 30.

To the shock of everyone, the undefeated streak was ended by the Beast, Brock Lesnar in 2014. It ended one era but didn't stop The Phenom from having matches at the Show of Shows. While some of the luster was lost by suffering his first defeat at the Showcase of the Immortals, The Undertaker would go on to defeat Bray Wyatt and Shane McMahon the next two years. It wouldn't be his last defeat at the PPV, however, as he fell to Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 33. He would defeat John Cena the following year but did not have a match at last year's event.

What will become of The Phenom and his yearly appearances at the PPV? If he falls to Styles is that it for him? Will he struggle to put away The Phenomenal One or will it be a competitive match? How much is left in Taker's tank?

#2 Drew McIntyre (1-3)

Will McIntyre improve on his record?
Will McIntyre improve on his record?

McIntyre has been a part of WWE for almost 10 years on and off. But unfortunately, he only has four appearances at the Show of Shows to speak of. His first match at the event was a losing effort in the MITB ladder match at WrestleMania 26. He was also unsuccessful in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale at WrestleMania 30 and more recently, to Roman Reigns last year.

The lone win for the Scottish Psychopath at the Showcase of the Immortals came at WrestleMania 28. At the PPV, John Laurinaitis and Teddy Long were locked in a battle to be the GM of both RAW and SmackDown. As a member of Team Johnny, McIntyre was victorious for his only time at the event.

Now that he's finally received his first-ever shot at a major title at this year's show, will that lead him to more success at the PPV? Is he slated to take the WWE Championship off of the shoulder of Brock Lesnar? The Beast might be going on a hiatus after the event so it might mean that McIntyre gets his second win at the biggest PPV of the year.

#1 Brock Lesnar (5-4)

The Beast
The Beast

The Beast has been a fixture at the Show of Shows ever since returning to the WWE back in 2012. He's defended the title numerous times including the last two years against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins respectively. While the title is different as he now holds the WWE Championship, he'll be defending his prize against an extremely ready and hungry Drew McIntyre.

Back when he was known as the Next Big Thing, Lesnar won his first match at WrestleMania 19 in 2003 when he defeated Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship. He would then fall the following year at WrestleMania 20 when both he and Goldberg were publicly known to be leaving the company.

His next showing at 'Mania was in 2013 at WrestleMania 29 where he fell to Triple H in a No Holds Barred match. The following year in 2014, however, he would pick up perhaps the biggest win in WWE history when he ended The Undertaker's undefeated 'Mania streak.

In 2015, he defended the WWE World Championship against Roman Reigns but lost it when Seth Rollins cashed in his MITB briefcase. He beat Dean Ambrose the following year in a street fight and would capture the Universal Championship from Goldberg in 2017 at WrestleMania 33.

The last two versions of the Show of Shows saw the Beast top Reigns at WrestleMania 34 but lose the title to Seth Rollins at last year's show. It's surprising that he's only one win above .500 which proves that although we may dislike his part-time status, he has put over people four times on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
