15 WWE Superstars who have pinned Roman Reigns

Roma
Roman Reigns has headlined WrestleMania four years in a row

Roman Reigns has been positioned as one of the top WWE Superstars ever since he made his debut as a member of The Shield in late 2012, so it’s only natural that his pinfall defeats have been restricted to very rare occasions.

Following his recent surprise loss on the 25 June episode of Monday Night Raw, where he was pinned by The Revival’s Dash Wilder in a tag match with Bobby Lashley, we figured we should look into how many times “The Big Dog” has been pinned for the 1-2-3 in his WWE career.

The answer? Fiftee times, which sounds like a high number for a four-time WrestleMania main-eventer but it isn’t all that surprising when you consider that he is close to completing his sixth consecutive year as a main-roster performer.

These match statistics, obtained from wrestling database site profightdb.com, also show that only six people have recorded pinfall victories over the Shield member on more than one occasion, while it took over two years before he finally lost a singles match via pinfall.

So, who are these 15 lucky people who WWE has entrusted with a 1-2-3 televised victory over arguably their biggest Superstar? Without any further ado, let’s take a look at who made the list and how they got the win.

Roman Reigns’ first televised pinfall defeat came almost a year after he first appeared on our screens with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

During an 11-on-3 handicap match on Monday Night Raw, “The Big Dog” withstood punishment for several minutes from Daniel Bryan before Jey Uso connected with a top-rope splash to eliminate his cousin.

The match eventually came down to Bryan and Seth Rollins, with “The Leader of the Yes Movement” picking up the win for his 11-man team after following up a diving headbutt with his trademark running knee.

Cody Rhodes won the Tag Team titles with Goldust against The Shield

Roman Reigns’ first televised pinfall defeat came almost a year after he first appeared on our screens with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

Competing in a Tag Team Championship match on Raw against Cody Rhodes and Goldust in October 2013, Reigns was knocked out by a KO punch from The Big Show when the referee’s back was turned and Cody capitalised by hooking the Shield member’s leg to pick up the 1-2-3.

The rivalry between The Shield and The Rhodes Brothers was one of the best storylines of 2013, so it’s well worth checking out the finish to the tag match in the video below!

#13 Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns have fought several times

Bray Wyatt has defeated Roman Reigns on four occasions during their time on the main roster – a tally that is only bettered by one other man (more on that soon).

“The Eater of Worlds” first pinned “The Big Dog” when the Wyatt Family defeated The Shield at Elimination Chamber 2014, and the rematch between the two factions on Raw in May 2014 resulted in exactly the same outcome.

A year later, Bray picked up another pinfall win over his long-term rival at Battleground 2015, largely thanks to interference from Luke Harper, while he also pinned Reigns in the men’s five-on-five elimination match at Survivor Series 2016.

#12 The Big Show

The Big Show's most notable rivalry with Roman Reigns came in 2015

Given that The Big Show and Roman Reigns have met on multiple occasions in various different storylines over the last five-and-a-half years, it’s surprising that “The World’s Largest Athlete” has only recorded one pinfall victory over “The Guy” during that time.

Show’s one and only pinfall triumph came on an episode of Raw in February 2015 when he struck a blindsided Reigns with a KO punch after distractions from Seth Rollins and J&J Security.

#11 Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins pinned Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31

Unsurprisingly, Seth Rollins has picked up more pinfall victories over Roman Reigns (five) than anybody else in WWE to date.

“The Kingslayer” defeated his Shield buddy on two occasions in March 2015 – first on an episode of Raw and then, more memorably, in the main event of WrestleMania 31.

Since then, he has recorded three more 1-2-3 wins over Reigns, most notably at Money In The Bank in 2016 to briefly win the WWE Championship, while he also defeated him on Raw on two more occasions in August 2016 and February 2018.

#10 Sheamus

Sheamus defeated Roman Reigns at Survivor Series 2015

Roman Reigns and Sheamus’ paths have crossed many times over the last few years, but the Irishman’s only 1-2-3 success over the four-time WrestleMania headliner came at Survivor Series 2015.

Just five minutes and 15 seconds after Reigns defeated Dean Ambrose for the vacant WWE Championship, “The Celtic Warrior” cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to pin the Shield member for the first and, as things stand, only time in his WWE career.

#9 Finn Balor

Finn Balor made a huge impact on his Raw debut

The biggest statement victory of Finn Balor’s WWE career so far came in July 2016 when he defeated Roman Reigns via pinfall in the main event of Monday Night Raw to become the #1 contender for the Universal Championship.

The victory was made all the more significant because, although it wasn’t Balor’s debut match as a member of the main roster, it was still his first night competing on Raw, so it was a clear sign that he was going to be a big part of WWE’s plans moving forward.

#8 Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose pinned Roman Reigns at Battleground 2016

One of the most surprising findings while researching this article was that Dean Ambrose has only pinned Roman Reigns once during their time as members of WWE’s main roster.

“The Lunatic Fringe” picked up a 1-2-3 win over his fellow “Hound of Justice” when the two battled it out with Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat main event for the WWE Championship at Battleground 2016.

However, that match remains the one and only time that Ambrose has pinned Reigns on WWE television.

#7 Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman has had many battles with Roman Reigns

Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns battled it out in all kinds of match types during their enjoyable rivalry in 2017, with “The Monster Among Men” picking up two pinfall victories over his rival during their multiple meetings throughout the year.

The current Money In The Bank holder first defeated Reigns via pinfall in the main event of the Payback event in April 2017, while his second triumph came in October 2017 when Kane returned and Strowman pinned “The Big Dog” inside a steel cage on Raw.

#6 Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar pinned Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34

Roman Reigns has been a member of the Raw roster ever since the WWE draft took place in July 2016, yet he still hasn’t had his hands on the Universal Championship. Why? Two words: BRRRROOOCK LESNAR!

“The Beast” has defeated “The Big Dog” via pinfall in two matches during their multiple meetings over the last few years, with the first coming in the Fatal 4-Way main event at SummerSlam 2017 and the second coming in the hostile singles match between the two men at WrestleMania 34.

#5 Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens was the Universal champion during his feud with Roman Reigns

Much to our surprise when putting this article together, Kevin Owens is one of just six men to have defeated Roman Reigns via pinfall on more than one occasion.

KO first defeated the three-time WWE champion for the 1-2-3 when he won the Universal Championship on Raw in September 2016, while his second triumph over “The Guy” came at the 2017 Royal Rumble.

Granted, both pinfall wins came courtesy of interferences, first from Triple H and then from Braun Strowman, but the record books still state that Owens pinned Reigns twice!

#4 Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho won the United States Championship from Roman Reigns

Remember when Roman Reigns was the United States champion during his Universal Championship rivalry with Kevin Owens and the US title became largely irrelevant?

Well, WWE changed that on an episode of Raw in January 2017 when Chris Jericho teamed up with his best friend at the time, Owens, in a 2-on-1 handicap match for Reigns’ title.

Y2J struck “The Big Dog” with a Codebreaker and, for the only time in his WWE career, finally defeated him via pinfall.

#3 Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe has only pinned Roman Reigns once

Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns have had multiple battles over the last 18 months, so it’s somewhat surprising to find out that “The Destroyer” has only pinned his rival on one occasion since his call-up to the main roster.

That 1-2-3 victory came in February 2017, shortly after Joe’s WWE debut, when he capitalised on a distraction from Braun Strowman to pin his opponent on Raw.

#2 The Miz

The Miz defeated Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental Championship

It took The Miz over five years to defeat Roman Reigns via pinfall in a televised WWE match – then he did it twice in a week in January 2018.

The first victory came at Raw 25 when Miz threw Reigns into an exposed turnbuckle before hitting him with a Skull Crushing Finale to win the Intercontinental Championship.

One week later, “The A-Lister” was up to his old tricks again as The Miztourage caused multiple distractions at ringside, allowing the eight-time IC champion to roll Reigns up for the win.

#1 Dash Wilder

Dash Wilder (left) surprisingly pinned Roman Reigns on Raw

Thought you’d never see Dash Wilder defeat Roman Reigns via pinfall? Nor did we, but that’s exactly what happened on a June 2018 episode of Raw when the dysfunctional duo of Reigns and Bobby Lashley fell apart against The Revival.

Just when “The Big Dog” looked on course to get the win for his team after a spear on Scott Dawson, legal man Wilder re-entered the match and rolled Reigns up to defeat him with one of the most surprising 1-2-3 victories of the year.
