2 Reasons why Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez is a good idea and 2 reasons why it isn't

WWE will return to Saudi Arabia at the end of October, as the second edition of Crown Jewel is set to take place. With the pay-per-view only two weeks away, WWE has finalized several huge matches for the show.

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will put the title on the line against Cain Velasquez, who made his WWE debut on FOX's SmackDown premiere. After Lesnar's emphatic win over Kofi Kingston, the newly crowned WWE Champion was confronted by Velasquez, who came seeking revenge for his friend Rey Mysterio. Velasquez put his hands on Lesnar, but 'The Beast' managed to escape the ring. Subsequently, an official match between Velasquez and Lesnar was announced for Crown Jewel.

Let's examine two reasons why Lesnar vs Velasquez is a good idea and two reasons why it isn't.

#2. Why It Isn't: Cain Velasquez is put in the main event way too early

Velasquez and Rey Mysterio

Cain Velasquez will compete for the first time in WWE, and he will be getting a shot at the company's most coveted prize. There is a possibility that Velasquez could win the WWE Championship in his very first match.

Prior to his WWE debut, Velasquez competed in two AAA shows. While Velasquez looked extremely impressive in the squared circle, it still might be too soon. Even Ronda Rousey, undoubtedly the most popular female UFC fighter in history, wasn't in the main event scene immediately following her WWE debut.

Velasquez is certainly an established name in the world of MMA, but not every WWE fan is acquainted with the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Many Superstars perform in NXT before making their way to the main roster, ensuring that they learn the intricate facets of professional wrestling before challenging under the bright lights of main roster main events. Velasquez will make his WWE in-ring debut at a major pay-per-view event, against WWE's most dominant Superstar, for WWE's most illustrious prize. That's a lot of pressure for anyone, even an athlete as decorated as Velasquez.

#2 Good idea: The storyline involving Rey Mysterio and Dominic

Lesnar mauled Dominic

The WWE Championship storyline has proven most captivating, as it has captured the attention of the WWE Universe. Besides Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio and his son Dominic are also part of this rivalry.

It all started on the season premiere of RAW, when Rey Mysterio was supposed to face Universal Champion Seth Rollins. 'The Beast Incarnate' spoiled Mysterio's Universal Championship opportunity with a brutal assault. Rey's son Dominic, who was sitting ringside, received the brunt of Lesnar's aggression and left the arena in a stretcher. Dominic was rushed to the ER accompanied by his legendary father. The segment became the talking point of the show, especially since Rey Mysterio gave up his Universal Championship opportunity to be at Dominic's side.

Mysterio was banged up and couldn't get revenge himself, so he brought in UFC star Cain Velasquez. It was a perfect way to introduce Velasquez to the WWE Universe. Since Dominic was dismantled by 'The Beast,' it will be interesting to see if he assists Velasquez at Crown Jewel. Dominic is already training to follow in his father's legendary footsteps, and it will not be surprising if he soon makes his debut in the squared circle, especially considering that he is very much a part of this feud.

#1 Why It Isn't: Brock Lesnar already lost twice this year

Lesnar lost to Rollins at SummerSlam

There is no doubt that Brock Lesnar is one of the most dominant Superstars in WWE, however, 'The Beast' also suffered two losses in two gigantic pay-per-views this year. Given the fact that historically Lesnar loses so infrequently, 2019 has not been the best year for the WWE Champion.

'The Beast Incarnate' was the Universal Champion at the beginning of this year, but dropped the belt to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania. While he did win the Universal Championship back after cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase, Lesnar inevitably lost the title to Rollins again at SummerSlam.

Lesnar has certainly gained some momentum after his dominating victory over Kofi Kingston, but his next opponent is a UFC legend who has already beaten him in a legitimate fight. Another loss against a legitimate opponent could diminish Lesnar as a dominant force in WWE.

#1 Good idea: The hype behind the match

It is no secret that Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez are old rivals, meeting each other in a real fight at UFC 121. While Lesnar was the holder of the UFC Heavyweight Title, Velasquez was still undefeated. It was a highly anticipated bout, as the two behemoths locked horns in the Octagon. However, Lesnar failed to remain champion, losing to Velasquez by TKO in the first round. Velasquez won his first belt in UFC, and he managed to remain unbeaten.

Nine years later, WWE is recreating the same scenario at Crown Jewel, as Lesnar is the WWE Champion, and Velasquez is the new challenger. When they fought each other in the cage, the match was widely talked about, and UFC 121 was a successful pay-per-view.

It will be interesting to see if their match in the squared circle produces a similar outcome. Regardless of the result, the match will be one of the most highly anticipated of the year. 'The Beast' will be eyeing revenge for his previous loss in UFC. Velasquez, on the other hand, will be looking forward to making history by becoming WWE Champion on his very first try.
