Roman Reigns is set to team up with The Undertaker to face Drew McIntyre & Shane McMahon in one of the featured matches at WWE Extreme Rules on July 14.

Since Jon Moxley, formerly known as Dean Ambrose, left WWE and The Shield officially split up, “The Big Dog” has been without a tag team partner during his multiple battles with the McMahons, McIntyre & Elias.

On the June 24 episode of Raw, one night after defeating McIntyre at WWE Stomping Grounds, it looked as though the former Shield member was going to come out second-best in another 2-on-1 assault by McIntyre & McMahon.

However, much to the surprise of the WWE Universe, The Undertaker appeared out of nowhere and helped Reigns – the man who defeated him at WrestleMania 33 – to take out his villainous rivals.

Although Reigns has had dozens of tag team partners throughout his career, he has never joined forces with the legendary “Deadman” in a televised WWE match.

With Extreme Rules on the horizon, let’s take a look at two Superstars who failed as the former Universal champion’s partner and three Superstars who succeeded.

#5 Succeeded: Daniel Bryan

Following his controversial victory in the 2015 Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns was forced to re-earn his spot in the main event of WrestleMania 31 by facing Daniel Bryan at the inaugural Fastlane pay-per-view.

The two rivals teamed up multiple times in the build-up to their WWE Championship #1 contender match, with The Authority (Jamie Noble, Joey Mercury, Kane, Seth Rollins & The Big Show) proving to be the first of many opponents who they would go on to defeat in February 2015.

The most famous tag team match involving Reigns & Bryan as partners came on SmackDown when they outlasted six other teams – Damien Mizdow & The Miz, The Usos, Los Matadores, Heath Slater & Titus O'Neil, The Ascension and Kane & The Big Show – to win a 47-minute gauntlet match.

Overall, the former WWE champions have teamed together in seven televised matches, winning all seven.

#4 Failed: Jason Jordan

Before suffering a potentially career-ending neck injury, Jason Jordan played an obliviously obnoxious babyface character on Monday Night Raw in late 2017/early 2018.

During this time, Kurt Angle’s storyline son formed an unusual alliance with Seth Rollins and the two men even won the Raw Tag Team titles from The Bar on the Christmas Day 2017 episode of Raw.

In January 2018, Jordan became an honorary member of The Shield when he teamed with Rollins & Roman Reigns against Finn Balor, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows, but the former American Alpha member’s one and only televised tag team match with “The Big Dog” ended in failure.

Not only did the makeshift Shield trio lose the match, with Balor pinning Rollins after a Coup de Grace, but the finger was pointed at Jordan after he inexplicably distracted the referee at the same time that Reigns was set to make a crucial tag.

#3 Succeeded: Seth Rollins

Roman Reigns burst onto WWE’s main-roster scene in November 2012 and immediately formed a dominant alliance with fellow Shield members Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

While Ambrose often competed as a singles competitor during his 351-day reign as the United States champion, Reigns became regular tag partners with Rollins and they won the Tag Team titles from Kane & Daniel Bryan at WWE Extreme Rules in May 2013, kick-starting a successful 149-day reign as champions.

Since The Shield's original June 2014 break-up, Reigns & Rollins have teamed together in multiple reunion matches, notably at Survivor Series 2017 against The New Day and at Fastlane 2019 against Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley & Drew McIntyre.

Overall, the duo of Reigns & Rollins have been on the same side in a total of 108 televised matches, winning 64 times (59.3 percent win ratio), losing 38 times and drawing the other six.

#2 Failed: Bobby Lashley

During Roman Reigns’ 2018 rivalry with Brock Lesnar, he was forced to face Bobby Lashley in the build-up to SummerSlam to earn another Universal Championship match against “The Beast”.

Lashley emerged with the victory in their match at Extreme Rules 2018, but Reigns ultimately won the feud, setting up another encounter with Lesnar in the process, after defeating “The All Mighty” in a #1 contender match on Raw.

As is often the case when two rivals are preparing for a high-profile match, Reigns and Lashley had to form an unusual alliance in June and July 2018 to face The Revival in three consecutive weeks.

They were able to defeat Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder on two occasions, but the most memorable match between the two teams came on the June 25 episode of Raw when Wilder pinned Reigns, who had a series of miscommunications with Lashley, to pick up an unexpected win for The Revival.

#1 Succeeded: John Cena

In September 2017, the ‘dream match’ between John Cena and Roman Reigns finally took place when “The Big Dog” defeated the 16-time world champion in one of the marquee matches at the No Mercy pay-per-view.

Three years earlier, the two men teamed together seven times in the summer of 2014 following The Shield’s break-up, with Cena even becoming an honorary Shield member in June 2014 to help Reigns and Dean Ambrose defeat The Wyatt Family on Raw.

Much like the team of Reigns & Bobby Lashley in 2018, Reigns & Cena joined forces in the build-up to their No Mercy match by facing Samoa Joe & The Miz and Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows in tag team matches on Raw in August 2017.

Overall, they teamed up in a total of 10 televised matches on WWE programming between 2014 and 2017, winning on all 10 occasions.
