3 matches WWE fans want to see at Clash of Champions 2019, and 3 matches we'll probably get instead

Who will the Beastslayer face at WWE Clash of Champions?
Who will the Beastslayer face at WWE Clash of Champions?

In just one month, the WWE will host their latest Pay Per View, Clash of Champions, and the show is sure to be a star-studded affair.

Like the name suggests, Clash of Champions will see plenty of title matches during the event, as the majority, if not all main roster championships are expected to be defended.

Naturally, this has led to plenty of speculation on who will challenge for the gold, as well as who will retain their titles, and which new champs we will see crowned at the Pay Per View.

Here are three matches WWE fans want to see at Clash of Champions 2019, and 3 matches we'll get instead.

#3 What fans want: WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Kevin Owens

Though these two have fought before, even this year over the WWE Championship, things are much different just a few months later.

When Kevin Owens and Kofi Kingston battled at Money in the Bank, Kingston was still new into his WWE Championship reign, whilst Owens was his usual dastardly heel self after briefly turning face, only to turn heel a week later.

Now, the New Day star has settled in much more comfortably as the top star on the blue brand, whilst the Prizefighter has become one of the company's most popular stars, with his voice of the people character putting him at odds with Shane McMahon.

A rematch between the two would be great to see at Clash of Champions, and could tell a much bigger story than their war earlier this year.

As the voice of the people, Owens could speak about how there are many fans who want to see him with the WWE Championship instead of Kofi, and given that Kingston's star may have been eclipsed by Owens', the title change may just happen.

#3 What fans will probably get: WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton

A rematch between the two could take place after their draw at SummerSlam
A rematch between the two could take place after their draw at SummerSlam

At SummerSlam, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston was able to retain his title against Randy Orton, but not in the way the New Day star had in mind.

After a hard-fought match between both champion and challenger, the finish came when the heel Orton antagonized Kofi's kids at ringside, leading to Kingston charging at his opponent, causing a count-out draw.

This ending clearly sets up for a sequel between the two, and will hopefully allow for a much more definitive ending than what took place at the biggest party of the Summer.

To be fair, the feud with Orton has been arguably Kofi's best story since becoming WWE Champion, so it's right that WWE don't want to give up on it so quickly.

Perhaps a stipulation could add a spark to the match, such as a Last Man Standing match, which would play off of the count-out draw from SummerSlam.

Having this rematch take place at the show will also likely lead to another match taking place at Clash of Champions, though we'll get to that later...

#2 What fans want: A match for the WWE 24/7 Championship

Current 24/7 Champion Elias' title is in serious jeopardy

With the show being called Clash of Champions, it's pretty safe to say that all main roster titles will be on the line, and that would surely include the 24/7 Championship.

The newest piece of gold on the main roster, the 24/7 title has quickly become one of the most popular things on WWE's programming today after initial backlash from fans when the physical belt was revealed.

Though Clash of Champions should be an epic night of entertainment, it could be disastrous for whoever is the 24/7 Champion on the night, as being put into a match would essentially make them a sitting duck for anyone in the locker-room.

It is this kind of wacky entertainment that is why a match for the title is a must for Clash of Champions, as the show could see several title changes in the night.

A 24/7 Championship Battle Royal would be a lot of fun to see, as though Elias is the champion at the time of writing, it looks like there will be many title changes before we get to the Pay Per View.

#2 What fans will probably get: Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens

The company will probably pull out another match between the pair

Though Kevin Owens may have saved his career by defeating Shane McMahon at SummerSlam earlier this month, it's clear that the war between these two doesn't seem to be over quite just yet.

On SmackDown Live this week, McMahon fined the Canadian $100,000 for 'attacking' a referee during their match, a hefty price for Owens to pay, and an especially rough one when you realise the official was Elias.

When you consider that WWE Champion Kofi Kingston's match against Randy Orton ended in controversy at SummerSlam, it's likely that those two will have a rematch, leaving a prime space for the Best in the World to have one more war with Kevin Owens.

Adding a stipulation to the contest (perhaps a Steel Cage to avoid interference by Elias), could be what the pair need to take their feud to the next level. Though many fans may prefer to see Owens battle for the WWE Championship at Clash of Champions instead, expect great things if the former Universal Champion locks horns with the Best in the World once again.

#1 What fans want: Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre

Could McIntyre topple Rollins to become the new Universal Champion this year?
Could McIntyre topple Rollins to become the new Universal Champion this year?

There was a time when fans were practically sure that Drew McIntyre was going to be the Universal Champion at some point this year.

By the end of 2018, McIntyre had all the momentum in the world. Though Brock Lesnar's stranglehold on the title did make a win unlikely, when Rollins won the title at WrestleMania, fans were hoping it was McIntyre's time to shine.

Unfortunately, Lesnar won the title back shortly after, and though Rollins is champion once again now, the lustre of the Scottish Psychopath has faded considerably.

With that said though, there are still plenty of fans who would like to see McIntyre get into the Universal title picture soon, as there is hopefully still a chance the former NXT Champion could be Universal Champion by the end of this year.

Even if McIntyre was to come up short against the Architect at Clash of Champions, simply having Drew be in the main event would do wonders for the Scottish Superstar, who for much of this year was relegated to being Shane McMahon's sidekick.

#1 What fans will probably get: Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs. Braun Strowman

The company has already started teasing a feud between the two on this week's RAW
The company has already started teasing a feud between the two on this week's RAW

The company began teasing this on the latest episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, but it seems Seth Rollins' first opponent in his second reign as Universal Champion will be Braun Strowman.

On this week's show, the Monster Among Men came to the aid of the Architect, who was on the receiving end of a three-on-one beatdown by the OC, and though Strowman helped Rollins out, it's clear that Braun wants the title.

A report from the Wrestling Observer has also stated that these two will be facing off in the main event of the Pay Per View, as the Greatest Royal Rumble winner hopes to finally claim the top prize on the red brand.

Since 2017, Strowman has had plenty of opportunities at the gold, though he has been unsuccessful on each occasion, meaning if he does face Rollins at Clash of Champions, he may need to win, or risk having his mystique ruined forever.

On the other hand, having Rollins lose the title he has spent the past year working towards wouldn't be a good look either, so hopefully, WWE will figure something out in the month before the show.

If WWE go ahead with Rollins-Strowman, fans should expect a fast-paced, heavy hitting match featuring two of the most popular Superstars on the red brand.
