3 Most likely finishes for Lesnar vs. Kingston on SmackDown's FOX debut

The WWE Title will be on the line on SmackDown Live's Fox debut, October 4.
The WWE Title will be on the line on SmackDown Live's Fox debut, October 4.

WWE will begin its relationship with FOX on Friday, October 4th. Smackdown Live is set to make its FOX debut and will be looking to kick things off with a bang. There are plenty of stars scheduled to make appearances on the show, including the biggest movie star in the world, Dwayne “The Rock'' Johnson.

With all the glitz and glamour WWE will be bringing, the main focus will be on making a lasting impression in the ring. Viewers need more than special attractions, if WWE expects them to come back for more. The evening's main event will feature the current WWE Champion, Kofi Kingston and his challenger, Brock Lesnar.

What does WWE management think the best route will be to maximize a regular weekly fan base on FOX? Here are the top three most likely outcomes of the WWE title match.

#3. Brock Lesnar Wins Decisively

Will Lesnar walk away with SmackDown's biggest prize?
Will Lesnar walk away with SmackDown's biggest prize?

Brock Lesnar wins and Smackdown Live begins anew on FOX with a part-time champion. This is the least desirable outcome for most, but it’s certainly worth entertaining the notion. Lesnar is a transcendent star. His fame goes beyond the ropes of the squared circle and into the mainstream.

While many tenured WWE fans may be sour on the idea of another Lesnar title reign, WWE is expecting many first time viewers. It is possible the company sees Lesnar, a former UFC Champion, as a bridge to the mainstream FOX audience.

Moving Forward

This victory would allow WWE to position one of its biggest stars directly in the spotlight on network television. The title picture would now revolve around one of its highest paid Superstars. It may not seem ideal to the hardcore fans, but it’s certainly a reasonable business decision.

Lesnar can move forward into a feud with Kofi that takes them to the Hell in a Cell PPV. They could also pivot and have Brock go head to head with a number of big names already on Smackdown, such as Randy Orton and Roman Reigns.

This is probably the safest move. The question is, does WWE want to lay it up and play it safe or go for the pin?

The next two slides are higher risk resolutions to this booking. As the old saying goes, with high risk comes high rewards.

#2 Kofi Kingston earns a clean victory over Brock Lesnar

Could Kofi earn a clean victory over the Beast?
Could Kofi earn a clean victory over the Beast?

A clean victory over one of the biggest powerhouses in the industry could propel Kofi-Mania to new heights. There will be more eyeballs on the product than usual this Friday and WWE has a chance to paint Kofi in a very competitive light. More casual fans will already be familiar with Brock Lesnar thanks to his tenure atop the company and his reign as UFC Champion.

Despite currently holding the title, Kofi is the underdog in this bout, but a victory over Lesnar would be monumental for Kingston's career. If WWE is hoping to avoid a part-time champion on their new network home, then a clean Kofi Kingston victory is the way to go.

The company put the WWE Championship on Kingston for a reason. He is a skilled performer. Whether it’s his promos or his work in the ring, Kingston is a trusted veteran and wildly popular with the WWE Universe. Having Kofi defeat Brock Lesnar would build his credibility in the eyes of the casual viewer, adding legitimacy to his WWE Championship run.

#1 Rey Mysterio Destroys Lesnar

Mysterio should stop at nothing in his quest for vengeance.
Mysterio should stop at nothing in his quest for vengeance.

On Monday Night RAW's season debut, we witnessed Lesnar demolish Rey Mysterio Jr. with a vicious attack. Lesnar then yanked Dominick, Mysterio's teenage son, out of the audience and annihilated him in front of his dad. It was heinous, appalling, and criminal.

Dominick had to be stretchered to the back, loaded into an ambulance, and taken to a local hospital. Mysterio was so disturbed by his son’s welfare that he removed his mask once he got in the ambulance. As you may know, this is a very big deal for Lucha wrestlers.

If we are witnessing Mysterio’s swan song, this may be just the way to do it. It’s David vs. Goliath, it’s Jack vs. the Giant, it’s Rey vs. Kevin Nash, but done correctly!

The prediction is that Mysterio will return to attack Brock Lesnar. Retribution has to be on the horizon for Rey Mysterio. He decided against hanging up the boots thanks to Dominick and now he will be seeking vengeance on his son's behalf.

Turnabout's Fair Play

If Rey reaches deep and draws on the anger and rage that Brock Lesnar has stirred up, the assault could be brutal, and could happen prior to the match. It’s possible Brock doesn’t even make it to the match, much like the way Rey never made it to his Universal Title match on RAW.

Either Way, Here Comes Rey

It’s also possible that Mysterio interferes during the match. If Lesnar were to somehow come away with the WWE Championship, it could set Rey Mysterio and Brock Lesnar up to headline SmackDown’s initial run on FOX. Two Wrestling Legends vying for the top title with emotions running high sounds like good television.
