NXT vs. the main roster is one of the most popular tropes when it comes to fantasy booking, and with good reason.

NXT has one of the most stacked rosters in terms of talent. The Superstars are capable of putting on amazing matches with anyone.

NXT matches are perennial match of the year contenders and it is the only WWE product with matches rated more than five stars by Dave Meltzer.

With this in mind, it’s easy to see why NXT vs. the main roster is so popular. While some of the more popular NXT wrestlers such as Andrade, Ricochet, and Aleister Black have already been called up to the main roster, NXT is still home to the WWE’s biggest talent pool.

In this article, we take a look at a few dream NXT vs main roster matches we are dying to see.

#4 Angel Garza vs. Rey Mysterio

Angel Garza is a third-generation wrestler who belongs to one of Mexico’s most famous wrestling families and is cousins with 205 Live Superstar Humberto Carrillo.

He made his WWE debut in 2019 in the NXT Breakout Tournament, where he impressed everyone with his creative move set and aggressive personality.

Even though he was knocked out from the tournament, he has already solidified his place as one of the future stars of NXT.

Rey Mysterio is one of the biggest (so to speak) Luchadors in the world and it is something of a custom among most of the top Luchadors to test themselves against him. He has faced some of the best young stars, including the likes of Andrade and Pentagon Jr.

This match would be a proving ground for Angel Garza, as he would get to show the world that he deserves to stand in the same ring as one of the greatest of all time.

Mysterio and Garza should have a series of matches where the youngster keeps improving over time until he is finally able to defeat The Master Of The 619.

A win over the former World Heavyweight Champion will help Garza's career in a big way

#3 Shayna Baszler vs. Charlotte Flair

The Queen of Spades
The Queen of Spades

The Queen of Spades is one of the most dominant fighters to ever set foot in a WWE ring. The former mixed martial arts fighter is the current NXT Women Champion, a title she has held for more than 270 days. Baszler was trained by some of the greatest fighters such as Bill Robinson, Josh Barnett and Ronda Rousey.

When Charlotte Flair made her WWE debut, it was immoderately clear that she was destined for big things. Many fans immediately predicted that she would one day headline WrestleMania as her father had done before her. Their predictions were proven right when Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch headlined WrestleMania 35.

Charlotte and Shayna are both part of groups that refer to themselves as the Four Horsewomen. Charlotte is part of the Horsewomen of WWE together with Bayley, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. Shayna is part of the MMA version along with Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke.

How would a match between the two play out?

This match will likely occur when the Horsewomen of MMA crossover to the main roster. Shayna will probably go after Charlotte to try and establish her dominance setting up a series of matches between the two women. The rivalry might culminate in a match at Wrestlemania to find out which group of women is the most dominant

#2 The Street Profits vs. The New Day

The Street Profits are the NXT Tag Team Champions and one of the most popular tandems in the WWE. Paul Heyman is apparently very impressed with the team as they have appeared on RAW multiple times. They have even appeared in segments with Seth Rollins indicating that the higher ups have a lot of faith in them. It’s simply a matter of time before they complete the transition to the main roster.

In 2014, an event happened that forever changed the WWE tag team division. Xavier Woods joined Kofi Kingston and Big E, and the trio became known as the New Day. The trio would go on to achieve tremendous success winning the tag team championships multiple times. At the moment Kofi Kingston is the WWE Champion, while his teammates are the Smackdown Tag Team Championship.

How would this feud play out?

The Street Profits would appear on SmackDown and challenge the New Day for the SmackDown tag team championship. The New Day would accept the challenge and the match would be set for a pay per view.

#1 The OC vs. The Undisputed Era

The OC and the Undisputed Era are two of the WWE’s most popular factions. Not only are the individual members great in-ring performers, they are also some of the most charismatic wrestlers in the entire world.

At the moment, AJ Styles is the US Champion while Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows are the Raw Tag Team Champions.

Adam Cole is the NXT Champion while the other members of the Undisputed Era are chasing gold in their respective divisions.

Of all the matches on this list, this one has the greatest potential of actually happening. On the RAW reunion episode, AJ Styles teased that the OC might invade NXT in the near future to get their revenge on Shawn Michaels. However, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is no plan for the OC to go to NXT any time soon. This hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming about it.

How would such a match play out?

The most likely scenario is the OC going to NXT to make good on their promise to Shawn Michaels. The Undisputed Era would come to Shawn Michaels’ aid and chase away the OC. This would then set up a series of matches between the two teams with the Undisputed Era gaining the early advantage because of their numbers. To counter this, the OC would bring in Finn Balor to level the playing field. This feud would culminate in a match at Wrestlemania, and the outcome is anyone’s guess.
