3 Opponents John Cena should put over at WrestleMania 35

One of the most polarizing superstars to ever step foot in the ring
One of the most polarizing superstars to ever step foot in the ring

The lovable superhero that is John Cena has been one of the most polarizing superstars to ever step foot in the ring. He has a huge fanbase which mostly comprises of the younger audience. He is a perfect fit for the PG Era and he constantly remains at the top of merchandise sales. Big Match John can deliver for the WWE when they need him.

But now the time is ticking for Cena as he has started to wrestle on a part-time basis due to his busy schedule. He can no longer be the consistent poster boy for the WWE anymore. The WWE has to look upon new talents to take Cena's place. Roman Reigns was being groomed to be the next Cena but is unfortunately out due to an ongoing battle with leukemia. With their two most trusted superstars out, it is time for someone else to step up.

Here we discuss the 3 potential superstars who could face John Cena and become the next big thing in the WWE.

#3 Lars Sullivan

"The Freak" is set to be the next big monster of WWE

Mauro Ranallo aptly described Lars Sullivan as a "Jack Kirby illustration come to life". Well, he is just that. Standing at 6ft 3in and weighing in at 330lbs, the behemoth from the Rocky Mountains has freakish strength (pun intended), intelligent and quite athletic for a man of his size in the ring and has decent mic work.

You could argue that Strowman is still the "Monster Among Men" but he has lost all his credibility due to his string of losses vs Lesnar. He truly cannot be seen as a monster anymore and we need a brand new monster who is absolutely ruthless. Who else to put into place than Sullivan? He is destined for big things in the WWE and what better way to start off than defeating the 16-time World Champion at Wrestlemania?

If this match does happen, expect Sullivan to emerge victorious and viciously demolish Cena and state himself as the next big monster of WWE.

#2 EC3

EC3. What a journey he has had. From being Derrick Bateman in NXT to becoming a 3-time World Champion in TNA, EC3 oozes with charisma and has excellent mic skills. EC3 can turn heel similar to his TNA run being a cocky and arrogant person who does not care about anyone. Since returning to NXT, he has mostly portrayed a face character and is not that much of a hot commodity in NXT at the moment. That could all change once he returns to the main roster.

EC3 vs Cena is a mouthwatering clash and will surely get people excited and what better place to have it in other than The Show of Shows? These two can definitely put on a phenomenal match. EC3 should edge it out and cement himself as one of the top heels in WWE while Cena subsequently passes the torch thus making his wrestling journey truly memorable.

#1 Drew McIntyre

The Future of WWE
The Future of WWE

When you talk about fairytale stories in wrestling there is no better place to start than Drew McIntyre. He was the "Chosen One" when arrived he on Smackdown during 2009 by Vince McMahon himself. He later fell down the ranks and started losing blindfold matches to Santino Marella. He became a part of the memorable and comedic stable, 3MB. Unhappy with his position, he left WWE during 2014. This proved to be the turning point in his career.

He wrestled like a madman in the indies and captured multiple world titles with promotions like TNA, Evolve, ICW, WCPW, etc. He is also part of the ICW Hall of Fame. Rebuilt into a complete monster he returned to the place where he was meant to be in 2017 and joined NXT. He became the NXT Champion and held it for over 90 days. After the injury which made him drop the NXT Championship, he returned to the main roster and has since been on a mission. He has defeated the likes of Seth Rollins, Kurt Angle, Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler.

He has been recently interrupting Cena's promos as of late and this pretty much teases a match between these two at WrestleMania 35. This would truly be the Cinderella story come true for McIntyre if he defeats Cena and would be massive progress for his quest to be the top guy in the WWE. The place he was meant to be at a long time ago.
