3 reasons why Becky Lynch is challenging Asuka leading to Royal Rumble 2020

On the latest episode of RAW, the brand's Women's Champion, Becky Lynch, said she has not been herself. Lynch told an interviewer that WWE has been protecting her for the last few weeks by not asking her to defend the Red Brand's Women's title and by putting her in the tag division. Lynch also said she needed to face Asuka.

However, we all know that giving two belts to a single competitor is a bad idea. It did not work for Seth Rollins and it certainly did not work for Becky Lynch earlier this year. Yet, WWE is on the path to creating a rivalry between the two champions.

In this article, we will take a look at a few reasons why WWE is trying to create a feud between the RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch and one half of the Women's tag team Champion Asuka.

#3. To add a strong title defense to Becky Lynch's reign

Following her successful bout against Sasha Banks at Hell in a Cell, Becky Lynch has not since defended her title. So, it has been more than two months since Lynch's last title defense. WWE cannot let such a dormancy build up at the top title of Women's division. The RAW Women's title will play a huge role in WrestleMania 36 and letting the title go undefended will force the WWE fans to care less about the title.

Moreover, during her reign as the RAW Women's Champion, Becky Lynch did not have many credible challengers. She feuded against Lacey Evans in the first quarter of her reign and against Natalya at SummerSlam. The Man's only major threat was Sasha Banks who ultimately fell short at capturing the title.

A strong feud against a credible opponent like Asuka will elevate the RAW Women's Championship - especially in a situation where the top Champion on RAW, Brock Lesnar, is absent.

#2. Kairi Sane is not yet cleared to return to the ring

During the initial few minutes of the TLC 2019 main event, one half of the Women's tag team Champions, Kairi Sane, suffered a concussion (it is not clear to pinpoint the exact time at which Sane got the concussion). The Pirate Princess struggled throughout the match due to the unfortunate incident. Still, Sane and Asuka completed the main event.

Upon further medical evaluation, it was found that Sane has not yet been cleared to return to the ring for in-ring action. With WWE taping next weeks RAW yesterday, Sane and Asuka will have to miss two weeks worth of storyline buildup leading to Royal Rumble 2020. Hence, WWE played it smart by using the RAW Women's Champion to challenge the other half of the Women's tag team champions, Asuka.

It is a win for all parties involved. Sane can get some precious time to recover before getting cleared to wrestle in the ring once again. Becky Lynch and Asuka can have an amazing feud that can be concluded in a great clash (both Lynch and Asuka have amazing chemistry with each other).

#1. To complete Becky Lynch's "list" before she feuds again with Ronda Rousey

If Becky Lynch is Superman, Asuka is a giant chunk of Kryptonite. Among all the wrestlers in the RAW womren's division, Asuka is the one Superstar that Becky Lynch could never pin or submit. Whenever The Man and The Empress of Tomorrow went face to face inside a ring, Asuka had the last laugh.

The only time Lynch ever scored a victory over Asuka was on the go-home episode of RAW before TLC 2019 in a handicap match. Midway into the match, Asuka and Kairi Sane attacked Lynch with a steel chair, forcing a DQ finish.

In her interview with Charly Caruso on the latest episode of RAW, Lynch admitted that Asuka has her number and she wanted to change it. Lynch told that Asuka was the one person whom Lynch has not yet beaten.

Since WWE are reportedly preparing for a singles clash between Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36, the creative team might need Lynch to look strong in her road to that show. Scoring a win over the one person she could never beat will put Becky into a different league in Women's division.
