3 Things that could happen at WWE SummerSlam 2019

What could we expect from SummerSlam this Sunday?
What could we expect from SummerSlam this Sunday?

WWE is throwing a huge party to cap off the summer, and the entire WWE Universe is invited.

This Sunday, WWE will go live from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada with their presentation of SummerSlam. With such a short break between Extreme Rules and The Biggest Party Of The Summer, the buildup hasn’t been as strong as in previous years.

However, it is a Big Four PPV, so expect a hot crowd, especially with it being in Toronto. There are currently ten matches advertised for this Sunday’s show.

On the RAW side of the card, Dolph Ziggler will take on the returning Goldberg, who is looking for redemption after his infamous match against The Undertaker at Super Showdown.

AJ Styles will defend the United States Championship against Ricochet, Finn Balor will take on Bray Wyatt, making his in-ring debut as The Fiend. Becky Lynch will defend the RAW Women’s Championship against Natalya in a Submission match.

In the main event for the Red Brand, Brock Lesnar will defend the Universal Championship against Seth Rollins.

On the Smackdown side of the card, Charlotte Flair will take on Canada’s own and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus.

Kevin Owens will take on Shane McMahon, and if KO loses, he must quit WWE. Bayley will defend the Smackdown Women’s Championship against Ember Moon.

In the main event for the Blue Brand, Kofi Kingston will defend the WWE Championship against Randy Orton. There will also be a Cruiserweight Championship match between Drew Gulak and Oney Lorcan.

With that being said, here are three things possible at this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam Pay Per View. Leave your thoughts and predictions in the comments below.

#3 Goldberg will have a respectable match against Dolph Ziggler

In a surprise turn of events, Dolph Ziggler will not be facing The Miz this Sunday at SummerSlam as previously announced.

Instead, The Showoff will take on the returning Goldberg, who looks to redeem himself from his disaster of a match against The Undertaker at Super Showdown.

While Goldberg is most likely winning this match, the two questions will be how long will the match go and can Ziggler carry Goldberg to a respectable showing?

With such a loaded card, don’t expect this match to go more than ten minutes, especially in Goldberg’s condition.

As for will the match be respectable or another disaster: If anyone can carry someone like Goldberg, it is Ziggler.

Unlike Undertaker, who is in Goldberg’s age range, The Showoff is much younger and more athletic.

Ziggler can still go in the ring and will sell well for Goldberg, especially the spear and Jackhammer.

If Undertaker can redeem himself with his performance at Extreme Rules, then why can’t Goldberg do the same here? Everyone deserves a second chance and Goldberg is no different.

#2 Brock Lesnar will retain the Universal Championship against Seth Rollins

Will Brock Lesnar continue his dominance of Seth Rollins?
Will Brock Lesnar continue his dominance of Seth Rollins?

In a rematch from the opening match at this year’s WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar will defend the Universal Championship against Seth Rollins.

However, the dynamic is a bit different now, as Rollins has cooled off significantly since WrestleMania. While many fans still don’t like him, they aren’t as opposed to Lesnar retaining here than they were back in April.

Lesnar retaining here would be a good thing, as if he drops it here it would be another waste of the Money in the Bank briefcase.

The Beast Incarnate won the belt back at Extreme Rules last month, so why have him win it just to drop it back to Rollins a month later?

If that is the plan, then they should have just kept the briefcase with Lesnar until the fall to cash in on Rollins or Kofi Kingston. Lesnar also typically has long title reigns so a one-month run would be out of character.

Another reason Lesnar retaining would be a good thing is that it can lead to a Rollins heel turn, which might be needed at this point.

As mentioned before, Rollins has cooled off a lot since WrestleMania, with WWE pushing his relationship with Becky Lynch on screen and trying to make him look cool.

Coming off his promo on RAW, a loss to Lesnar on Sunday can set Rollins up for a losing streak, which leads to him snapping and turning heel down the line.

As much as people may not like it, instead of a long, drawn-out match Lesnar should make quick work of Rollins to retain the Universal Championship, much like his match against Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel last year, and move on to different challengers.

Rollins is built up enough that a loss, even in that fashion, wouldn't do him much damage and could add to his possible heel turn.

#1 Randy Orton will defeat Kofi Kingston to win the WWE Championship

In a match 10 years in the making and the match that should be the main event this year’s SummerSlam, Kofi Kingston will defend the WWE Championship against longtime rival Randy Orton.

This is the perfect storm of a story, heat and what should be a good match. However, Orton should pick up the win and the title here.

Kingston has had a pretty lengthy and good title reign, defeating challenger after challenger while rarely taking a loss.

However, if there was one person that would be the perfect person to defeat Kofi, as well as one person that fans wouldn’t hate to see him drop the belt to, it would be Randy Orton.

While Kofi defeating Orton would be good for his character and would prove The Viper wrong, the story that could be told the 13-time World Champion wins could be even better.

Orton can come out and say he told everyone that Kofi wasn’t ready for the main event and that he got lucky that he injured Ali in the first place.

Kofi could have some self-doubt and think maybe Orton is right after all. It could make Kofi become more serious in trying to win the title back, and babyfaces are typically better chasing the titles than they are at being champion.

With the possible stories that could be told if he wins and given the length of Kofi’s title run, Randy Orton should pick up the pin and win the WWE Championship after an exciting main event match.
