Injuries are one of the most frustrating things in wrestling, for both fans and wrestlers. Not only does it alter a Superstar's ongoing storyline, but injuries can change an entire career trajectory. Fans want their favorite wrestlers to return to WWE as soon as possible, but unfortunately this is often an impossibility.

Injuries come without prior notice and while WWE often wants to continue a storyline once a wrestler gets medically cleared, several factors come into play. For instance, a Superstar who was feuding for a World Title before might find it difficult to re-enter the title scene upon his or her return, especially if another Superstar has taken their spot as a top contender. They could be forced to wait a little longer or the creative team could alter their direction entirely and move the returning Superstar to a new feud.

In September, during the King of the Ring tournament, Samoa Joe wrestled in a Triple Threat Match against Ricochet and King Corbin. Joe lost the match and broke his thumb, in the process.

While speaking about Samoa Joe's injury via the Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer revealed that the injury is significant and there isn’t a time frame set for Joe’s in-ring return.

When Joe does return to WWE, creative could push him like the monster heel he was during his run in NXT, as fans will be clamoring for his in-ring return.

Drew McIntyre hasn’t wrestled a single match in WWE since the company's Mexican tour back in September. The former Intercontinental Champion was reportedly set to win this year's King of the Ring, but his injury altered the company’s plans. McIntyre’s injury is said to be relatively minor, but he still hasn’t returned to WWE after taking several weeks off to recover from surgery.

There’s also a rumor that McIntyre is already cleared to return to WWE, but the company wants to keep him on the sidelines until the second half of October. He has already been drafted to RAW and it wouldn’t be shocking if 'The Scottish Psychopath' makes his presence felt very soon.

#2 Injured: Jinder Mahal

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal injured his knee in June in a match against Ali and has been out of action ever since. The SmackDown Superstar revealed that he has undergone surgery and will return once his body is fully recovered.

According to a report by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Mahal is currently scheduled to return to the company by 2020.

Here is what Sapp had to say about Mahal's injury and return,

“Jinder Mahal's patella injury has him listed as a "January 1" return. He'd just signed a new five-year deal ahead of the injury. Previous reports had indicated a possible return at the end of the year.”

Ronda Rousey injured her hand during the main event of this year’s WrestleMania against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. 'The Rowdy One' lost her match and the RAW Women’s Championship. Since then, Rousey hasn’t been seen in WWE.

Triple H recently revealed that Rousey is ready to return to the company and while he didn’t mention any specific date, he did reveal that her return might happen sooner rather than later.

"She said to me multiple times, 'It was like the family I never knew I was missing, and the group of friends and the environment I never knew I was missing.' I think she misses that greatly. She's constantly with us, and she's constantly pitching her return. So, if I had to guess, it would be sooner rather than later, but who knows?"

Lars Sullivan was rumored to make his main roster in-ring debut against John Cena at WrestleMania 35, but things didn't work out according to plan. Instead, Sullivan debuted on RAW, where he took out WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

Sullivan quickly rose up the ranks in WWE, but his rise to the top was derailed by a knee injury. He’s currently expected to be out of action until June 2020.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful,

“Lars Sullivan was listed on WWE’s internal injury report as being out until late June 2020. Considering his experience with knee surgery in the past, he is not actually expected to be out that long.”
