Last year NXT Takeover: WarGames PPV shocked the world. It re-introduced a classic match type. Historically WarGames provided platforms for many WCW performers. Notably; Arn Andersen, The Road Warriors, and Ric Flair, (watch the video below). Nevertheless, in 2001 WCW became a defunct promotion. Vince McMahon purchased the company ending the Monday Night Wars.
This year NXT Takeover: WarGames returns and is hotter than before. There are many matches which will be both exciting and dramatic. Firstly, Velveteen Dream receives an NXT Championship opportunity. Moreover, Shayna Baszler defends her championship in a rematch with Kairi Sane. Who will walk out as victor? Let's explore some feasible options.
# 4. Velveteen Dream becomes NXT Champion
Velveteen Dream has arguably progressed the most within the NXT division. Being in his early twenties, he has years left before reaching his prime. What is shocking is that he is already stealing the show. Nevertheless, Dream has yet progressed to the world of Raw or SmackDown Live. Therefore, what could we expect from him?
At NXT Takeover: WarGames II Dream will compete for the NXT Championship against Tommaso Ciampa. This match is expected to afford a plethora of drama. Moreover, think back to Dream's efforts against Johhny Gargano, (watch the video below). Considering that match stole the show. It is not inconceivable that Ciampa versus Dream will be the same.
Their match is going to be dramatic and exciting. With Dream's mysterious character portrayal and Ciampa's aggressive nature, almost anything could happen. Nevertheless, only one person can walk out champion. In this case, Dream both deserves the opportunity and has earned it. Notwithstanding, it is the perfect time to transition Ciampa to Raw or SmackDown. Therefore, he must drop his championship.
#3. Aleister Black is victorious
On July 18th, 2018 Aleister Black was defeated losing his NXT Championship to Tomasso Ciampa. However, what is interesting, is how the match ended. Johhny Gargano would intervene seeking to attack Tommaso Ciampa, but would accidentally hit Black instead. This event could be considered the catalyst for their current feud. In subsequent months events would escalate. Following NXT Takeover: Brooklyn IV Black was found unconscious. Nobody knew the reason why.
On October 17th Black returned to NXT and was informed by Nikki Cross that Gargano attacked him. In following events, Gargano's presence exponentially improved their story. In recent weeks Gargano would conduct an awesome video promo, (watch the video below). It highlighted a change in his attitude and character. He would provide fans with his reasoning for attacking Black.
Both Black and Gargano are excellent performers. In the ring and their character portrayal. Nevertheless, NXT has limited direction left for them. In particular for Black. Therefore, it makes sense for Black to win at WarGames. Firstly, it ends their feud. Secondly, Gargano could progress to challenge for the NXT Championship. Moreover, Black could finally head for Raw or SmackDown. Regardless of WWE's decision this match is going to be awesome.
#2. Kairi Sane becomes NXT Women's champion
Arguably one of the mainstays in World Wonder Ring Stardom Kairi Sane has developed immensely within the NXT division. Debuting as the inaugural winner of the Mae Young Classic. Sane has gone on to become an NXT Women's Champion. It happened when Sane shocked the world at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn IV to become champion, (watch the video below). Nevertheless, her reign was shortlived.
At WWE Evolution Shayna Baszler would regain her championship, after interference from; Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir. Since then their interaction has been limited. However, at NXT Takeover: WarGames II they will meet for the NXT Women's championship, once again. It will be an awesome showdown.
Sane has garnered immense success within WWE. She has performed at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 34. It proves Sane has WWE's approval. However, considering the level of talent on Raw and SmackDown Sane's character is better suited in NXT. Thus Sane should become champion, to help develop the brand. Meanwhile, Baszler is free to join the main roster, where her talents would be awesomely suited.
#1. Pete Dunne secures victory
The WarGames match dates back to NWA and WCW. It made names like; Dusty Rhodes and Arn Andersen famous. Nevertheless, due to WWE purchasing WCW in 2001 the match type disappeared. However, in 2017 NXT announced a PPV dedicated to the match type. In the main event, Undisputed Era defeated Authors of Pain with Roderick Strong and Sanity.
The tension between; Undisputed Era, Pete Dunne, Ricochet, and War Raiders recently escalated. During a recent NXT episode, Bobby Fish returned to aid his stablemates in retaining their championships. He would attack War Raiders. Subsequently, in following weeks Pete Dunne and Ricochet would join the fray helping the War Raiders, (watch the video below). Regardless of the chaos, this multi-person feud is heating up brilliantly.
At NXT Takeover: WarGames II all these men meet in the main event. Their wargames match will be an exceptional show to witness. Considering Undisputed Era's experience in the match things could become interesting. However, will they be victorious? The likelihood will be no, because of their extensive tenure with the brand. It is likely they will debut on Raw or SmackDown soon. Therefore to gain the best from this match, it should be Pete Dunne walking out with the win. With Dunne being a mainstay for NXT UK this success would be lucrative for the brand.
