Pro wrestling is not just about the action that happens in the ring, but also about promos to hype up matches and feuds, which add to the extravagance of it.

The greatest pro wrestlers and WWE Superstars have been those that have owned it on the microphone, with even some being bang average wrestlers but achieving superstardom through the things that they say.

WWE has had some phenomenal Superstars who can make memorable moments with the mic in their hand, with some of the most iconic moments happening when wrestlers have spoken off the cuff, often without a script.

Wth WWE catering to a young audience as well as producing advertiser-friendly content, Superstars have had to have their scripts approved by WWE's creative team before using it on air.

But there are some Superstars who have been given by Vince McMahon and co. approval to speak on the mic without a script. Here are 4 current Superstars Vince McMahon has allowed to deliver unscripted promos

#4 Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens is perhaps one of the best promo machines in WWE recently, which could be attributed to his love for WWE Hall of Famer and one of the best talkers in the pro wrestling business - Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Owens has delivered memorable promos, including one against Shane McMahon earlier this year, which captured the imagination of the WWE Universe. Owens can deliver passionate promos, the angry ones, as well as the mocking ones which helps him be a legit heel or face.

Sports Illustrated revealed earlier this year that Owens is allowed to deliver unscripted promos on WWE television:

Like Jericho, Owens is also working without a script, Sports Illustrated has learned. He is working off bullet points, but it is a move by WWE that shows tremendous faith in Owens.

#3 Sami Zayn

Mark Henry revealed on Busted Open Radio that Sami Zayn has been allowed unscripted promos on RAW, which included a few that he delivered earlier this year, which impressed the crowd despite him criticising them.

"On fire. That was not written for him. They said, ‘Sami, how do you feel about this situation?’ I got this. And he let the world have it, and when I say the world I mean the world of wrestling from the people that sit in the stands. You have been judged, sir.
"Sami lets you know how he feels. I walked up to him and I said, ‘Man, who the hell are you? Who are you? Where has this guy been all this time?’ He said, ‘Mark, I’m not holding back no more.’ I said, ‘Don’t. Please don’t hold back!'

Zayn who returned to WWE on the RAW after WrestleMania 35, turned heel on RAW, despite beginning the night as a babyface. The former NXT Champion continued quite a few rants in the weeks after his return, mocking and ridiculing the crowd. He is now an advocate of sorts to Shinsuke Nakamura, who is the Intercontinental Champion over on SmackDown Live.

#2 Goldberg

Goldberg is a pro wrestling legend, who was the top dog on WCW, and had a brief run in WWE too back in the early 2000s, before returning again in 2016, before wrestling a few matches in 2017, and 2019.

His most recent return was in 2019, when he feuded with The Undertaker, a dream match that has been in the making for years. Although the actual match was a trainwreck, with Goldberg botching several moves and concussing himself, the build to the feud was a little more interesting, including Goldberg's promo in the week leading up to the match.

It was later revealed by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Goldberg's promos are unscripted, much like Paul Heyman or Brock Lesnar, and that he's allowed to say it from the heart.

“Bill Goldberg’s not being scripted by these writers, Goldberg’s in a different game. Goldberg’s in the Paul Heyman/Brock Lesnar thing where they work everything out and obviously Bill is saying what he wants to say. He doesn’t have the people telling him what to say," said Meltzer.

In his promo, Goldberg spoke about how he would not bring "the family man Goldberg" and that he would bring the "icon Goldberg" that broke all sorts of records on WCW.

#1 Ali

Ali, previously known as Mustafa Ali, is one for the future as WWE seem to have high hopes for him, so much so that they are allowing him to cut unscripted vignettes.

In an interview with Fightful, the former 205 Live star revealed that the WWE Chairman has allowed him to cut unscripted vignettes, with him producing, writing and directing them.

They’re mine. A hundred percent mine. They’re not written. They’re not produced. They’re not directed by anything WWE. I showed a few samples to Vince McMahon himself, some of the producers, and Vince’s direction was, 'If we get involved with it, it’s going to become its own thing. I like what I see, go out and make it your own.' So he literally tells me when he needs them and I make them. It’s very, very cool that someone’s self-producing, self-writing, self-directing and making their own vignettes.

Ali has grown by leaps and bounds over the last year, after getting a surprise call-up to the main roster, and then feuding with Daniel Bryan, that fans loved! If things had gone his way, he could very well have been WWE Champion, or at least have had a shot at the WWE title at WrestleMania 35 - a spot which went to Kofi Kingston after Ali's unfortunate injury.
