Fastlane 2019 : 4 things that must happen at this WWE PPV event

The New Daniel Bryan's time isn't over yet.
The New Daniel Bryan's time isn't over yet.

It goes without saying that the build to Fastlane 2019 is the worst pay per view build in recent memory. In ways that only they know how, WWE has somehow, someway, made all of their reigning champions look like losers on the way into the show, taking the wind out of their sails on the way to WrestleMania. That's some feat. New era, right?

The other matches on the card, with one exception, are pure, unadulterated filler.

The whole thing again shows that Fastlane is easily the most unnecessary pay per view on the WWE calendar and it should be gotten rid of without delay.

Nevertheless, since this show is, unfortunately, happening on Sunday, here are a few things that should happen to ensure that WWE doesn't completely wreck the road to WrestleMania.

#1 Chad Gable and Bobby Roode regain the Raw tag team titles

It would be hard to imagine saying this in another context, but Chad Gable and Bobby Roode regaining the Raw tag team titles would be the most palatable outcome for the Raw tag team division.

WWE has already demonstrated that they put the titles on the Revival solely because of contract issues. They've looked like losers ever since. The titles need to be rebuilt and it is clear that the Revival's reign won't actually revive the fortunes of the red straps.

How about Aleister Black and Ricochet?

They shouldn't be a tag team for long. In fact, them being put in the place of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa is a warning sign. It shows a cut and paste attitude with the new NXT call ups, suggesting that there were no major plans in place for them before they were called up. Nevertheless, both men have much higher ceilings than the tag team division and it would be a crime to waste them there.

Gable and Roode are the best team for the titles at this time.

#2 No other titles change hands

While the Raw tag team titles should change hands, no other title should.

It goes without saying that Daniel Bryan should retain, and thankfully, with unfinished business with Kofi Kingston, that will certainly be the case.

The Usos, too, are likely to retain, as The Miz and Shane McMahon are almost certain to break up on Sunday night, leading to their singles match at WrestleMania.

Sasha Banks and Bayley should defeat Nia Jax and Tamina, but with WWE's obsession with heat and pushing the former, you can never be sure. Sasha Banks and Bayley should be the long-term champions to get the division off the ground. Nia Jax and Tamina would fail.

Unfortunately, the SmackDown women's title is the likeliest to change hands, but the past few weeks should have made clear that nobody cares about Mandy Rose. Asuka losing the title to Mandy Rose after beating Becky Lynch clean would be an insult to both of them, diminish the title's prestige, and guarantee a bad title match at WrestleMania. With how badly the Carmella experiment failed, WWE must not try it again with an even less charismatic version of her.

#3 Andrade must beat Rey Mysterio

This might be on the pre-show, but a clean win for Andrade here would go wonders in building him up. The problem is that every time he's gained some momentum since his call up to the main roster last year, the company has pulled the plug. This is why the roster is so lacking in star power.

The practice needs to stop and Andrade would be well-served by winning cleanly against Rey Mysterio. His win back in January came as a result of the interference of Zelina Vega, and while this was fine back then, it shouldn't happen again.

Nevertheless, I get the bad feeling that Mysterio is going to win and challenge Samoa Joe for the United States Championship at WrestleMania. That would be a fine match, but Andrade needs this win much more. The US title match will probably be a multi-man affair anyway.

#4 Becky Lynch must beat Charlotte Flair clean

The major draw of the night is the Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair match. If the former wins, Becky Lynch will be added back into the match at WrestleMania 35, so we already know the outcome. The only question is how that outcome will be reached.

Unfortunately, a screwy finish is likely, to protect Charlotte and keep the odds stacked against Becky. Nevertheless, there have been problems with Becky's presentation since the Royal Rumble. What people really want to see is a showdown between her at her best and Ronda Rousey. With Rousey's heel turn on Monday, people want to see it even more.

A clean win for Becky Lynch would go a long way in establishing that frame with WrestleMania a month away. Charlotte Flair always felt like the third wheel in this build. She should be treated as such on Sunday.
