5 best guest host moments in RAW history

Shane McMahon has done an impressive job as the guest host for Raw for the past two weeks

It looks like Shane McMahon will once more appear on Raw this week. Whether he would host it or The Authority will return is left to speculation. Though Shane has done a tremendous job of managing Raw for the past two weeks, it is unlikely that WWE will let Shane run Raw without any face-off with Triple H and Stephanie anymore.

WWE wouldn’t risk anymore antics with this angle and if a brandsplit is coming it is good to have it sooner rather than later. The novelty of Shane running Raw might wear off quickly, so WWE will try to capitalize on Shane’s popularity for the moment and do some necessary changes that they had in mind before bringing in Shane.

Seeing Shane guest host Raw for the past two weeks has rekindled my memory a bit and took me back to the time when Raw was run by guest hosts for a period of more than a year during 2009-2010. There has been some memorable moments during that time and here I have listed out top 5 moments that took place at that time.

Special Mention : Mike Tyson knocks out Jericho

Mike Tyson’s infamous betrayal of D-Generation X at WrestleMania 14 was a moment none of us could forget. It officially spelled the beginning of Austin Era and became the foundation for the Attitude Era on which WWE rode to glory to beat WCW in Monday Night Wars.

After exactly 12 years, Mike Tyson appeared once again in WWE to Guest Host Raw on January 11, 2010. As expected WWE rekindled his enmity with DX in a spectacular fashion by booking Jericho and Tyson against the DX in the main event of the night.

Fans where expecting to see DX get their revenge on Mike Tyson, but what transpired left everyone shocked. Tyson turned on Jericho and knocked him out cold. He then went on to celebrate with DX creating a big kayfabe moment.

For a wrestling fan like Tyson, it might have been one of his greatest moments to close the show on Monday night Raw.

5). Seth Green puts himself in a main event match

Seth Green kind of set the tone for the upcoming guest hosts when he put himself in the main event picture of the night when he hosted on July 13, 2009. It was just the third week of the guest host parade and Seth was the first guest host who was not a wrestler.

Any doubts fans might have had on having non-wrestlers host Monday night Raw was put to rest after Seth’s incredible performance. Seth not only inserted himself into the main event picture but also helped Cena and Triple H win against The Legacy.

To his credit, Seth even got a few shots on Cody Rhodes and broke up the pin by Orton on Triple H. But no one would forget Triple h’s face when Seth inserted himself into the main event and the following segment featuring Cena, Triple H and Seth Green was hilarious to watch.

4). Shaquille O’Neal – Big Show face off

One of the best moments of WrestleMania 32 is big Shaq and Big Show facing off against each other in Andre the Giant Battle Royal. But their first face off happened when Shaq guest hosted Monday night Raw in July 27, 2009.

Chris Jericho interrupted Shaquille O’Neal as he was cutting a promo and insulted him in his trademark heel manner. But unlike other guest hosts Shaq gave it back to Chris Jericho by calling him Christina and placing a kiss on his forehead. Jericho’s reaction for it was priceless.

This eventually ended with Big Show and Jericho facing Cryme Tyme at the main event with Shaq as the special enforcer. One thing led to another, eventually Big Show called out Shaq leading them to face off each other.

It has been long time that someone has legitimately felt like a threat to Big Show and everyone present in the arena voiced their approval in a glorious manner. Looks like the next chapter of what transpired that will be written in WrestleMania 33 if rumors are to be believed.

3). The Steve Austin show

There’s nothing else to say about it, it was a complete Steve Austin show. Ever since he retired in 2003, Stone Cold made some sporadic appearances but he guest hosted Monday night Raw on March 15, 2010.

Stone Cold ran a promo of Vince vs Bret at WrestleMania hyping up the match and mentioning that a contract would be signed on that night. But, who cares about that. The reason this appearance is here because of one simple reason – Stone Cold.

He called out the bar-attender the moment he stepped into the ring. Beers kept sailing in and out of the fans as Stone Cold delivered a promo that only he could deliver. The main event too made a good impact.

But above all, it is the ovation that fans bestowed as they heard the sound of the glass shattering is the reason this appearance is on this spot in the list.

2). Bob Barker’s The Price is Raw

Without any doubt Chris Jericho is one of the best heels in WWE history. his arrogant personality just rubs people off in the wrong way. But there are very few times Jericho gets belittled and humiliated. Oh! There are tons of times he has gotten beaten up and other stuffs a heel will go through, but utterly belittled by a non-wrestler, no, I don’t think so.

One another reason for this moment to reach this high a place in this list is that Bob Barker is a non-wrestler who knows nothing about the wrestling business. But Barker gelled so good with the show it was difficult to identify that he has no wrestling background.

The chemistry between him and Chris Jericho was just pure magic. The way he belittled Jericho like a little boy and Jericho’s reaction to it was incredibly fun to watch. Don’t miss out this one especially.

1). Bret and Shawn bury the hatchet

The Montreal Screwjob was a milestone in professional wrestling. It entirely changed the landscape of wrestling in one way or other. Apart from its obvious significance, it also led to the creation of the personality called Mr.McMahon. A ego-maniacal control freak whom the audience loved to hate.

But, what many of us didn’t realize until the moment this happened was the toll the event took upon two of the greatest wrestlers of all time – Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. When Bret Hart hosted Monday night Raw on January 4, 2010, he immediately called out Shawn Michaels.

Michaels came out to the ring and the two talked their hearts out. From the moment Bret telling that he wanted to bury the hatchet and Shawn asking are you sure to Shawn and Bret embracing each other at the end, this segment was one of the memorable ones in the history of WWE.
