5 biggest "McMahon vs McMahon" moments in WWE history

The McMahon family

It's hard to imagine that Vince McMahon was once a traditional babyface announcer who used to mind his own business behind the desk and would never get involved in the ongoing WWE storylines. This all changed in 1997 when Bret Hart snapped on Vince on an episode of Raw. Vince slowly and steadily began showing signs of a heel turn and got into a rivalry with the white-hot Stone Cold, soon after.

Vince suddenly turned into the biggest heel in the business. A while later, Stephanie McMahon, Shane McMahon, and Linda McMahon were introduced to the fans. For the next two decades or so, the four members of the family feuded with others as well as against each other on numerous occasions. Let's take a look at 5 of these instances.

At Armageddon 1999, Triple H faced Vince McMahon in a "No Holds Barred" Match. Leading up to the match, Triple H had married a drunk Stephanie and revealed the footage on an episode of Raw. The stipulation to the match stated that if Triple H won, he would receive a shot at the WWE title. On the other hand, if Vince won, Triple H's marriage to Stephanie would be annulled.

The bloody bout saw both men going to the limit and brawling all over the place, even taking the fight outside the arena on one occasion. Stephanie was sitting at ringside, watching both men beating the tar out of each other. The ending to the match saw Stephanie 'accidentally' helping Triple H win the match, after which she showed her true colors and joined forces with The Game. It was revealed that Stephanie and Triple H had plotted the entire thing beforehand, in an attempt to take over WWE.

The biggest storyline of the Attitude Era was Vince McMahon's attempts to put down Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Austin's quest to capture the WWE title. In the midst of this, Stephanie was introduced to the WWE Universe as Vince McMahon's friendly and innocent daughter. Soon after, The Undertaker kidnapped Stephanie and was forcibly going to marry her. Vince was later revealed as the one who was behind the entire ploy, in an attempt to get back to Austin.

It all came to an end in a match at No Mercy, pitting Vince McMahon against Stephanie. The "I Quit" Match ended with Vince coming out the victor and leaving the ring alongside Sable, while Linda consoled a distraught Stephanie. In reality, the match was scheduled to write Stephanie off TV, as she was married to Triple H the same week. Stephanie, SmackDown's GM at the time, disappeared from WWE TV after this storyline was done and dusted with.

At WrestleMania 16, the main event featured four of the biggest stars in the company at the time. The Rock, Triple H, The Big Show, and Mick Foley all battled in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination Match for the WWE title. What was more interesting here was the fact that this was the pinnacle of a McMahon vs McMahon storyline by that point, as all four McMahons were against each other.

Stephanie was in Triple H's corner, Vince was on The Rock's, Linda was on Mick Foley's, and Shane was on The Big Show's side. The tagline that was used to promote the match was "A McMahon in every corner". The finish saw Vince betray The Rock and help Triple H win the whole thing.
