WWE RAW: 5 Biggest news stories - Alexa's Playground gets invaded, Hell in a Cell's WWE title match revealed (May 31, 2021)

This week's RAW ended with a significant development for the WWE Championship scenario.
This week's RAW ended with a significant development for the WWE Championship scenario.

The latest edition of WWE RAW set up a major match for Hell in a Cell. Apart from that, a lot of plot points were condensed into this week's show, as it featured 10 matches in total.

Not all developments have led to widespread acclaim, but the episode left everyone entertained after the main event. Additionally, Jimmy Smith made his debut as WWE RAW's new play-by-play announcer. Judging by his first stint, the former MMA fighter is a notable upgrade from Adnan Virk.

Let us know your thoughts about this particular episode in the comments section below. Here are the five biggest news stories from WWE RAW (May 31, 2021).

#5 WWE RAW's Shayna Baszler surprisingly lost in an intergender match

Failing to comply with Shayna Baszler's wishes, Reginald was supposed to pay the price for his frequent interferences on WWE RAW. As Baszler and Reginald fought in an intergender match this week, many assumed that The Queen of Spades would squash the sommelier to make a dominant statement.

Reginald landed some good strikes on Baszler during the match. Then, a fire shot out of the ring post and caught The Queen of Spades off guard. This allowed Reginald to roll up and successfully pin her.

Alexa Bliss, being the major suspect behind this surreal distraction, was confronted by Baszler later in the night. During an "Alexa's Playground" segment with Reginald, The Queen of Spades invaded their chat by assaulting the sommelier.

Baszler acknowledged that Bliss is becoming a problem for her, and their storyline is set to continue next week. Meanwhile, she referred to Lilly as a "stupid doll", it's safe to say that Alexa Bliss and her creepy doll will be plotting revenge soon.

While Shayna Baszler's loss to Reginald has led to overwhelmingly negative reactions from WWE fans, her developing feud with Bliss seems interesting, to say the least.

#4 Drew McIntyre earned another WWE title shot against Bobby Lashley

The main event of this week's WWE RAW featured a number No. 1 contenders' match between Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre. Meanwhile, WWE Champion Bobby Lashley took it easy by hanging back with his entourage, as The All Mighty would have received a 90-day suspension without pay if he had tried to interfere during the main event.

Kingston and McIntyre put on a stellar contest against each other. The two babyfaces fought in a back-and-forth match, which came to a stunning end shortly after McIntyre delivered a mid-air Claymore Kick to his opponent.

KofiMania 2 may not be happening anytime soon. However, Kingston's inclusion in the WWE Championship scenario was a brief and interesting detour as WWE builds toward a rematch between McIntyre and Lashley.

The upcoming encounter between these WrestleMania rivals promises to be another engaging bout at Hell in a Cell. Do you think Drew McIntyre should stay in the world championship picture if he loses one more WWE title opportunity on June 20?

#3 Elias and Jaxson Ryker's tag team split up on WWE RAW

Elias and Jaxson Ryker's partnership ended during a high-stakes match on this week's WWE RAW. AJ Styles and Omos put their RAW tag team titles on the line against Elias and Ryker, but the challengers didn't seem to be on the same page heading into the bout.

Towards the end of the match, Elias left his partner high and dry, as Ryker couldn't handle Styles and Omos all by himself. While the champions retained their titles on RAW, the main focus shifted towards Elias betraying Ryker.

Later backstage, The Drifter claimed that Ryker was unhinged. Since WWE will resume live touring from July onwards, Elias didn't want to be stuck in a car with him while being on the road.

Breaking up tag teams fits in with WWE's recent booking trends. Elias and Jaxson Ryker's partnership wasn't the most integral part of RAW, but they still operated within a deficient tag team division.

After this week's WWE RAW, the former duo will likely engage in a feud against each other. Now whether or not this split eventually leads to significant solo careers for either Elias or Jaxson Ryker remains to be seen.

#2 The WWE United States Champion suffered a broken nose injury

WWE United States Champion Sheamus fought in two consecutive matches this week.

The Celtic Warrior first squared off against Ricochet in a non-title bout, but a mid-match appearance from Humberto Carrillo distracted Sheamus, allowing Ricochet to capitalize on the situation and pick up a win.

This was followed by another non-title contest, with Carrillo stepping up to Sheamus in the latter's second consecutive match. During this bout, the U.S. Champion broke his nose and bled conspicuously on live television. This time around, Ricochet's presence was enough to distract Sheamus, and Carrillo benefited by picking up a victory for himself.

It ended up being a bad night for the WWE U.S. Champion, who may have to take some time off as a result of the injury he suffered on RAW.

Let's hope Sheamus's broken nose injury doesn't derail his current momentum on the road to Hell in a Cell.

#1 The R-K-Bro saga on WWE RAW

On the previous week's episode of WWE RAW, Riddle hit Xavier Woods with an RKO. Little did he know that The Viper would turn the tables on him this week.

As Orton faced Xavier Woods in singles competition, Riddle stood in the ringside area and witnessed the match unfold. Towards the end of the bout, Orton executed the Bro Derek, Riddle's finisher, to put down Woods for good.

While stealing someone's finisher is usually seen as a sign of disrespect in this industry, Riddle couldn't be more enthusiastic over Orton executing his finishing move.

The Original Bro seems to be growing on Randy Orton, with the latter gradually warming up to his goofy tag team partner after every passing week.

It's no secret that WWE has done a good job with this tag team, and if they keep up the positive trend, Riddle and Orton's pairing would be a huge hit in front of returning live crowds from July onwards.
