5 Biggest questions from WrestleMania 36

Two championship matches that could have gone either way
Two championship matches that could have gone either way

With no crowd in attendance, and a lot of critics asking for WrestleMania 36 to be called off, WWE took the brave decision of continuing with the event for the sake of the fans at home.

WrestleMania was held over two nights without any crowd for the same reason, and while many critics and fans believed that WWE would fail to make the same impact it usually does with its events, the company proved them wrong once again.

We saw several new champions walk out of the event and some stellar matches along with a lot of memories that will stick with the fans for years to come. However, fans back home are looking for answers to certain questions as they want to know which direction the company is heading in after WrestleMania 36.

In this article, we will look at 5 of the biggest questions that need to be answered after a successful WrestleMania amidst a global health crisis.

#5 Why did Sasha Banks help Bayley win the match?

We all know what's coming next
We all know what's coming next

For several months, fans were convinced that Bayley and Sasha Banks’ friendship will come to an end as WrestleMania approaches and we will witness a grand clash between the two women at The Show of Shows for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

For those who have followed the two women since their time in NXT, a match between Bayley and Banks is one of the most enticing encounters one could ask for.

At WrestleMania this year, Bayley was set to defend her title in an elimination match against Naomi, Tamina, Lacey Evans, and Sasha Banks. After the four women worked together to eliminate Tamina, Naomi was the next contender to be ousted. While we wanted to see a finale between Banks and Bayley, it was Evans who eliminated Banks to reach the final two.

Banks then helped Bayley retain the title by attacking Evans, raising the question of why she’d do so after losing out on the opportunity herself? Wouldn’t it have been better for her to have Evans win the title and then go after her for it rather than having to go after her friend later?

While we know that the betrayal will come sometime down the line, was it the right move to have Banks help Bayley retain the title again while not turning on her?

#4 Does Braun Strowman deserve a top title at this point?

Braun Strowman has been one of WWE’s brightest stars for a long time now. The Monster Among Men has been put up against big men such as Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, but never really managed to go over those guys.

Fans always saw Strowman as a top Superstar and someone who could become the next monster for the company, but every time he got a major chance he’d mess it up and land back at square one.

Strowman has had two very short reigns as the RAW Tag Team Champion, and an Intercontinental Championship reign that lasted just over one month including a single defense.

Even though we do not doubt the talent and the charisma Strowman possesses, one wonders where it was the right time to crown The Monster Among Men the new Universal Champion.

We understand that WWE had to make a quick switch for Roman Reigns at the last moment, but Strowman had recently landed himself in hot waters after making some insensitive comments on social media. Apart from that, he has done nothing of significance over the past few months.

Would it have been better to bring in someone like Sheamus, who is a former WWE Champion, to replace Reigns and use his experience to carry the title for some time? Or could WWE have brought in a RAW or NXT Superstar to fill the void and move them to SmackDown in the process? Only time will tell how good a Champion Strowman can turn out to be after trying and failing to grab the title so many times.

#3 Was it the right decision to take the NXT Women’s Championship off Rhea Ripley?

Charlotte Flair was right in accepting Rhea Ripley's challenge a few weeks ago

Rhea Ripley was living the dream on NXT after moving from NXT UK where she was once the NXT UK Women’s Champion. The Superstar led Team NXT to victory at Survivor Series in the women’s elimination match and then defeated Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Champion.

In about six months, Ripley became one of the biggest names in the industry as she was pulling all the right strings and doing all the right things to come across as one of WWE’s best champions. The young Superstar did not just stop there and challenged the 2020 Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair to a match at WrestleMania for the title.

However, WWE pulled the trigger on her at WrestleMania and awarded Flair the victory, taking the title off The Nightmare. While it makes sense that NXT wants a name like Flair on their brand to increase the pull factor and the ratings, was it the right move to take the title off Ripley when she was red hot?

The company could have moved Flair to NXT after the match anyway, claiming that she wanted to compete there after being impressed by Ripley. Will Ripley be able to recover from the loss, and what direction will she take now? Only time will tell if it was the right move to dethrone Ripley so early in her reign.

#2 Who will dethrone Becky Lynch on RAW?

Shayna Baszler was an unstoppable force in NXT, and when the former NXT Women’s Champion arrived on RAW earlier this year, fans were convinced that she would be the one to take down Becky Lynch.

Over the past several weeks, Baszler showed why every single woman in WWE fears her, and she tore through five other women, including former SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka, to win the Elimination Chamber match and earn her shot at the title.

Most of us were convinced that Baszler would be the woman to defeat Lynch and take the RAW Women’s title from her. In fact, it would have made perfect sense to see such a ruthless performer end The Man’s reign and it would have not done much damage to her image.

Instead, WWE booked Lynch to retain her title by pinning The Queen of Spades and overcome her challenger once again.

Lynch has now taken down Asuka, Natalya, Charlotte Flair, and several other women to retain her title on RAW, and by defeating Baszler, she has proven to be the greatest RAW Women’s Champion to date.

However, this raises the question of who can defeat The Man to take the RAW Women’s Championship, and whether WWE have now booked themselves into a corner as WrestleMania would have been the perfect place to allow Baszler to win the title.

#1 Will cinematic matches become the norm?

During the first night of the show, fans were treated to a WrestleMania main event like we’ve never seen before. Even though it was the main event for the first night, it was something that the fans will remember for a very long time.

The Undertaker took on AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match, and even though fans weren’t sure what to expect from it, they got much more than they could have asked for by the end of the show.

The second night saw ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt challenge John Cena to a bizarre Firefly Fun House match. WWE capitalized on the situation again to deliver a stellar match.

With so much success in these two matches, fans now want to know whether such cinematic gimmick matches become a norm in the company. Yes, we have seen matches like these from Matt Hardy, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, and several other Superstars before, but the ones we witnessed on WrestleMania this year enjoyed far greater success.

We would have never gotten such gimmicks had the situation been normal and the fans were in attendance. Therefore, will WWE look to hold such matches once things settle down and fans start filling in seats again, or will they be tempted to go back to matches in the arena only, keeping the battle within the ring?
