5 biggest unscripted WWE moments involving Vince McMahon

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is regarded by many as possibly the greatest businessman to have ever graced the pro-wrestling industry. He spent decades on end turning WWE into one of the biggest global media conglomerates today.

After being away from in-ring action for several years, Vince McMahon decided to get more involved in weekly storylines and thus the Mr. McMahon character was born in the 90s.

Vince's rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin ensured that WWE wouldn't lose to WCW in the Monday Night Wars, and it ultimately led to Vince buying off WCW in early 2001. Over the course of his decorated career as an on-screen villain, Vince McMahon has been a part of countless segments that were a part of WWE's weekly angles.

There were a few instances though, where Vince McMahon was involved in moments that were unscripted, i.e. moments that were not written in the script and happened in the heat of the moment or due to unforeseen circumstances. Let's check out five of these moments.

#5 Vince McMahon's hilarious ear tug

After Vince McMahon's team put down The Alliance at Survivor Series 2001, Ric Flair made his return to WWE and revealed that he and Vince are co-owners of the company. In a hilarious bit, Vince began pulling his ear with a weird expression on his face.

In reality, Vince had informed Bruce Prichard that he would pull his ear as a cue to hit Stone Cold's music. It took some time to follow the directions though, as they had to instruct the production truck to hit the music when Vince gave the cue.

Vince decided to aggressively tug his ear when Austin's music didn't hit, as a way to tell the production to hit his music as soon as possible. The music eventually hit and Austin made his way to the ring.

#4 Vince hits Stone Cold's music in the closing moments of RAW

Last year, WWE presented a special edition of RAW dubbed as RAW Reunion that saw a string of WWE legends and Hall of Famers making their return to the show. The final segment of the episode featured all the legends, with WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin giving a heartfelt speech to send the fans home happy.

In a moment that was unscripted, Austin asked how much time was left for the broadcast to end. When someone signaled that 60 seconds were left, Austin addressed the crowd some more and his music suddenly hit as he said, “they’re counting me down, we’ve got to go home”.

As per Fightful, Vince McMahon called for Austin's music to hit as the show didn't have much time left.

“Vince McMahon himself was urging Austin's music to hit to go off the air as their window was closing for time.”

It certainly must have been a surreal experience for the live audience who got to watch Austin break the script and legit ask about how much time the show had left. The two former on-screen rivals made sure that things would wrap up seconds before the time limit had exceeded.

#3 Vince McMahon instructs Triple H to tell Ric Flair to end his speech

This was another moment that wasn't supposed to happen and led to a loud negative reaction when Vince McMahon tried to straighten things up. At the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, Ric Flair was delivering his speech and Vince was getting restless in the backstage area as The Nature Boy was going beyond the allotted time.

The Hall of Famers usually stick to their scripts, but Flair probably had a lot more to say and didn't realize that time was running out.

Vince McMahon finally instructed Triple H to tell Flair to finish it up, and The Game described the moment as the worst of his career. Flair didn't take any offense though as it was a whirlwind of a moment for him. Here's what The Game had to say about the incident:

"I don't even know if it was a big deal to him and that he remembered it, it was a whirlwind to him but, oh my god, for me, it was the worst moment ever."

#2 Vince fires Kevin Owens up on SmackDown

Back in 2017, Kevin Owens and Vince McMahon had a verbal exchange on an episode of WWE SmackDown. It ended with Owens headbutting Vince as hard as he could, leading to the WWE Chairman getting busted open and falling down.

McMahon got up again and tried to attack Owens, but the villain responded with an attack of his own. Owens then superkicked the boss, followed by hitting him with a splash from the top rope.

Owens opened up on the segment while chatting with Chris Jericho and stated that being in the ring with him was a surreal experience. Owens then spilled the beans on what Vince McMahon told him seconds before he headbutted him.

Fans might be aware that Vince said something to Owens without using the mic before the latter attacked the WWE Chairman. Owens revealed that Vince tried to fire him up while speaking off-mic, and it did the job, as he was legit taken aback by the boss' swearing.

"Vince talking so much s**t off mic, I was legitimately taken aback. So many swear words."

The Royal Rumble 2005 ended with two back to back unscripted moments taking place. The original plan was for Batista to eliminate John Cena and win the whole thing. The ending was botched though and both Batista and Cena were eliminated together in the end.

The referees began arguing with each other with officials raising the hands of their respective brand's Superstars. Vince McMahon came strutting down to the ring with a visibly frustrated look on his face.

He rushed to the ring and immediately sat down as soon as he entered. What actually happened was that Vince McMahon tore both of his quads while rushing to the ring and thus had to immediately sit down as soon as he entered the squared circle.

The match was restarted and Batista won the free-for-all without a hitch this time around. As for Vince McMahon , he somehow managed to leave the spot without any kind of assistance, despite both of his quads being destroyed.
