2020 might just be the year of the dream match for WWE.
2020 might just be the year of the dream match for WWE.

Will 2020 be the year of the dream match?

It definitely seems like a possibility, especially with all the rumored match-ups that have been floated around lately. On top of rumored matches, wrestling fans have plenty of dream matches of their own, some of which could certainly come to fruition. Of course not every dream match that fans want will come true, but there is a good chance that a number of great ones could happen.

With that being said and the 2019 calendar year almost over, here are 5 dream matches we could see in 2020. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us what dream match you are looking forward to the most.

#5 The Four Horsewomen of WWE vs The Four Horsewomen of UFC

Should WWE pull the trigger on this?
Should WWE pull the trigger on this?

Why hasn't this happened already?

Sure, it might not be the the same type of dream match as ones such as John Cena versus Hulk Hogan, Roman Reigns versus The Rock, or even Sting versus The Undertaker, but it's actually on a completely different level for other reasons. It is by far the biggest remaining dream match in the current women's division. Fans have been clamoring for it going as far back as Shayna Baszler's signing with NXT, before Ronda Rousey was even rumored to join the company. It would also be likely to gain more mainstream press than any match other than possiby Reigns vs. Rock, but that's disputable.

In fact, there is so much demand for this match that it could legitimately end up leading to WWE closing out a second WrestleMania in a row with a women's match. Beyond all that, it is one of those storylines that would present the company with a lot of booking options for the long term, something that the women could definitely use right now.

For example, WWE could play off of the recent tension between The Four Horsewomen of WWE, the unfinished business between Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch, and the first time nature of this mega match. In the end, it's just too appealing not to do eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later.

#4 Finn Balor vs Triple H

Triple H versus Finn Balor could be the ultimate Takeover showdown.
Triple H versus Finn Balor could be the ultimate Takeover showdown.

There's something about a mentor versus protégé match that is able to get the WWE Universe excited. This would very likely be the case for a match between Finn Balor and Triple H. The former Universal Champion has never crossed paths with Triple H in a WWE ring and a one-on-one bout with the King of Kings could do wonders for his career.

Due to injuries and other bad luck, Finn was barely able to scratch and claw his way back toward the Universal Championship that he was never officially defeated for. However, Balor being back in NXT might be a blessing in disguise as it could finally lead to that coveted match with Triple H, who has been seen as the godfather of NXT in recent years.

Balor is currently playing the role of a heel that looks down on NXT and its talent roster, and Triple H is the man that helped mold the black and gold brand into what it has become today. If nothing else, that has all the makings of a marquee dream match and fans should be paying careful attention to that narrative in the coming months.

#3 John Cena vs Hulk Hogan

John Cena versus Hulk Hogan would be so much more than just a dream match.
John Cena versus Hulk Hogan would be so much more than just a dream match.

It's no secret that Hulk Hogan has been practically begging Vince McMahon for one more match inside the squared circle and what better opponent than John Cena? Sure, some may see it as just trying to recreate the buzz from The Rock versus John Cena dream matches that happened at WrestleManias 28 and 29, but a match between these larger-than-life Superstars could arguably be even bigger.

In fact, watching the biggest name during WWE's first Golden Era take on the man that carried the company on his back throughout the Ruthless Aggression Era would be a rare moment in history. A moment that the WWE Universe would be dying to see no matter what the two may or may not be capable of doing inside the squared circle

A match like this could be Hogan's last in a WWE ring, and maybe his final match ever, finally putting his legendary career to bed. John Cena has taken a lot of time away from WWE and says he will always be part of the family, but a match of this nature could end up being perfect as his last match, too. That's a lot to digest and is not something that should be taken lightly, which is why this is a dream that everyone should be looking out for when 2020 finally comes.

Interestingly enough, Hogan mentioned during the aforementioned interview that he wanted to take on Vince McMahon in a retirement match, but that doesn't seem very likely due to the WWE Chairman's age and the extreme physical limitations of both men. With that being said, Cena versus Hogan is a more realistic possibility and would be a huge blockbuster for an event like WrestleMania.

#2 Brock Lesnar vs Tyson Fury

WWE may be building toward Brock Lesnar vs Tyson Fury at WrestleMania 36.
WWE may be building toward Brock Lesnar vs Tyson Fury at WrestleMania 36.

Believe it or not, there is quite a sizeable chance of this actually happening, and it might even involve The WWE Championship if the pieces fall into place. It's not known yet whether Tyson Fury will find himself in a WWE ring again, but there are rumors circulating that he is on a short list of Lesnar's WrestleMania opponents.

Another option for Brock is Cain Velasquez, who he defeated at Crown Jewel. The company may be hoping to bill it as their rubber match, as Cain defeated Brock nearly a decade ago, taking Lesnar's UFC Heavyweight Championship. While that might sound very appealing, especially with the possibility of Velasquez repeating his victory and becoming WWE Champion, Fury's upcoming match up for the World Boxing Championship could change McMahon's mind.

Unfortunately for Vince McMahon and anyone that might want to see the latter happen, it will likely all depend on if Fury defeats Dante Wilder and wins the championship back. If not, it might not have the same level of appeal that a rubber match between Velasquez and Lesnar would.

#1 The Fiend vs The Undertaker

What happens when The Undertake meets The Fiend?
What happens when The Undertake meets The Fiend?

The Undertaker versus Sting dream match everyone wants is never going to happen and it's about time to consider other options. Furthermore, WWE's newest creation, The Fiend, needs an establishing moment to cement himself among the upper echelon in the company. A victory over The Undertaker would be perfect for that.

Think about it this way. The Undertaker could serve as a final test for The Fiend before he finally reaches the mega Superstar status that many expected for him shortly after he debuted in 2013. It could also be a great way to signal the end of The Undertaker once and for all. In fact, if Undertaker were to retire after this match or even just disappear entirely, quietly retiring in the process, it would have a big impact on the future of the character development of The Fiend.

In the end, Undertaker is still one of the most untouchable entities in all of sports entertainment and a win against him means something. Furthermore, watching him throw everything in his arsenal at The Fiend and then seeing the creature still pop up before three count would be a huge. It could even be what finally passes the torch to The Fiend as the official New Face of Fear, righting the wrong that may have been made when The Undertaker defeated Bray Wyatt at WrestleManis 31.
