5 celebrities who surprised us with how well they could wrestle

Pro-wrestling fans are often incensed by the introduction of celebrities into WWE storylines, and justifiably so. More often than not, these celebrities don’t know the first thing about the art of wrestling and tend to make a complete mess of things.

But, this isn’t always the case. Despite the numerous times we have had to suffer through celebrities with absolutely no skill going over seasoned professionals, there have been times when these mainstream media darlings have been able to hold their own.

Right from the days of WrestleMania 1, celebrities have been an important part of the WWE, and that isn’t something that is going to change anytime soon. So, instead of coming in for an easy pay day, it would be nice if celebs took a page out of what these five men and women did.

So, without any further ado, here are five celebrities who surprised us with how well they could wrestle:

#5) Snooki

Snooki was surprisingly athletic at WrestleMania XXVII

Hold your horses! I know what you’re thinking. “Snooki?! That woman from Jersey Shore?! A decent wrestler?! Has this author gone mad?!” Well, if you calm down for a moment, I’ll explain it to you.

Back during WrestleMania XXVII, the former Jersey Shore star teamed up with Trish Stratus and John Morrisson to take on the team of Dolph Ziggler, Michelle McCool and Layla.

It was a surprisingly decent match, and Snooki flabbergasted the audience by pulling off some sweet moves and holding her own in the ring. Don’t believe me? Here’s some footage of the same:

Sure, it wasn’t AJ Styles doing a 450 splash or Neville pulling off The Red Arrow, but it was impressive nonetheless. And, speaking of Neville and The Red Arrow, that brings us to our next entry on the list...

#4) Stephen Amell

Stephen Amell lived up to his end of the bargain on a stacked SummerSlam card

Stephen Amell engaged in a pretty intense Twitter feud with Stardust back in 2015 which ultimately culminated in a tag team match pitting Amell and Neville against Stardust and Wade Barrett at Summerslam that year.

The Arrow star more than held his own throughout the contest pulling some pretty neat wrestling moves against both Cody Rhodes – the man behind the Stardust paint job – and Barrett – who was at this point going with his King Barrett gimmick.

Amell wrestled a significant portion of the match and even helped set up Neville for his Red Arrow finisher to pick a victory in his first – and only – WWE match to date. Sure, it might not be the healthiest thing to have your stars lose to actors at a Big Four PPV, but at least Amell took the whole thing seriously.

#3) Floyd Mayweather Jr

Floyd Mayweather is one of the biggest names to ever grace the world of boxing. The undefeated professional boxer made the jump over to professional wrestling when the WWE offered him a massive payday to have a feud with The Big Show which ended in a No-Holds-Barred contest at WrestleMania 24.

Mayweather accepted and to everyone’s surprise, actually made an effort to have a decent match with Show instead of just collecting a paycheck. In what proved to be a surprisingly decent match, Mayweather would pick up the win on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Making full use of the no-holds-barred stipulation, the boxing icon’s posse attacked Show and Mayweather himself used a chair, and ultimately a knuckle duster to punch his opponent’s lights out and claim the victory.

#2) Lawrence Taylor

Lawrence Taylor put on a decent showing against Bigelow

Now we come to a man who headlined WrestleMania. Back during the days of the WWF, Vince McMahon decided to cash in on the popularity of Lawrence Taylor – a legendary American Football player – and engaged him in a feud against Bam Bam Bigelow.

The two had a heated feud which ultimately resulted in a match to main event WrestleMania XI. Despite having no prior experience in the world of professional wrestling, LT was a fan and made a real effort to ensure that the match was a success.

He was mainly carried to victory in what was considered as the best part of a sub-par WrestleMania card by Bigelow. It is rumoured that Vince paid Bigelow handsomely to pull in so much effort in ensuring Taylor went over him on such a grand occasion.

#1) Mr T

Mr T played a pivotal part in establishing Hulk Hogan as a mega star

Without a shadow of a doubt, the celebrity to have impressed us the most inside the squared circle is Mr T. He, in fact, performed at two WrestleManias against the same opponent. The first at WrestleMania 1 where he teamed up with Hulk Hogan to take on Rowdy Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. And the second, a not as impressive boxing contest against Piper.

We’re here to concentrate on the first encounter since that is the actual wrestling match. Mr T more than held his own in the ring with three legends of the business and he and Hogan would go on to pick up the win as well.

It is of little surprise that Mr T was inducted into the Celebrity Wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. He is the most deserving celebrity to have been inducted.
