Having a major presence on social media is a boon for celebrities, who are able to utilize their handles to interact with their fans and promote themselves on a regular basis instantly to millions of people. The same goes for WWE Superstars, many of whom have millions of followers on social media.

The drawback of having such a platform with a major fan following is that once you make a controversial statement or say something inappropriate in the heat of the moment, there's just no going back and you are bound to get slammed for your views by tens of thousands of people in one go. This hasn't stopped WWE Superstars from saying things on social media on in interviews that were deemed controversial. In the following slideshow, we will be taking a look back at 2020's most controversial things that WWE Superstars said, in interviews, or on social media.

#5 Roman Reigns says he might be the most important Royal Rumble competitor of all time

Let's get the least controversial comment of the list out of the way, made by none other than current Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Back in July, way before he was set to return at WWE SummerSlam 2020, Reigns took to Twitter and made a slightly controversial comment that led to many fans coming in droves and berating him for the same. Reigns made a bold claim that he might be the most important Royal Rumble competitor in history.

Roman Reigns does have an impressive record at the WWE Royal Rumble, but he has been a runner-up way more than actually winning it

Roman Reigns urged the naysayers to think about the last five years to properly understand his statement. Reigns won the 2015 Royal Rumble match and received one of the loudest negative reactions of all time. In 2016, he was eliminated by Triple H, minutes before The Game threw out Jon Moxley to win the whole thing.

Roman Reigns ended up being a runner-up in the 2017, 2018, and 2020 Royal Rumble matches. There's no way fans would put Reigns over WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin, who has won three Royal Rumble matches. Many fans weren't thrilled with his statement and decided to voice their opinion in the comment section. Do you believe that Roman Reigns is the greatest Royal Rumble competitor of all time? Does being a runner-up on four occasions (he was last eliminated by Batista in the 2014 WWE Royal Rumble match as well) warrant this accolade, over someone who has actually won three Royal Rumble matches?

#4 Lana regrets taking it too far with Drew McIntyre

WWE Superstar Lana has deleted a barrage of tweets over the years, whenever she felt that she went a tad bit over the line with her words. Back when Lana was having a fallout with Bobby Lashley, she talked about possibly getting together with Drew McIntyre. The WWE Champion wasn't happy with the comments and decided to take a shot at Lana via Twitter.

Lana was enraged with his comments and made an incredibly personal comment targeting McIntyre. Lana said that she hopes Drew McIntyre has many beautiful daughters in the future so that when men talk about them in a demeaning manner, he will realize what a failure he is.

Lana took things too far with the WWE Champion

It didn't take Lana a long time to realize that she had made a pretty controversial comment that wouldn't sit well with many people. She quickly deleted the tweet before it caused more problems for her on Twitter. McIntyre quite possibly didn't see it before it was deleted, as there wasn't any response from him to the same. Or maybe, McIntyre was so disgusted by the comments that he simply didn't want to take this online feud further.

#3 Seth Rollins makes a controversial statement about The Undertaker

Back in May 2020, Seth Rollins appeared on Corey Graves' After The Bell podcast and discussed a wide variety of topics with the WWE announcer. At one point during the discussion, Rollins made a comment about how The Undertaker's character doesn't work today. Rollins was talking about how fans got a closer look at the character in The Last Ride docu-series, and if fans had seen it back in the 90s, it would have ruined The Undertaker's character for them.

WWE fans didn't take the comments lightly, as expected

Fans were bound to keep fixated on that one line about how 'The Undertaker's character doesn't work today', and Rollins received some major heat from the WWE Universe for his statement. There were many who sided with him, while others put across the argument of how someone like The Fiend is doing well for himself in today's environment. The Fiend is also a supernatural character that is similar to The Undertaker in a lot of ways. Rollins pointed out the case of Bray Wyatt as well and dubbed him an exception.

#2 Nia Jax makes controversial comment about the COVID-19 vaccine

When you're already one of the most controversial entities in the company, making more controversial statements isn't the brightest idea in the world. Nia Jax has a reputation of being incredibly reckless and unsafe in the ring. A while ago, she posted an Instagram story that resulted in major fan backlash towards the former WWE RAW Women's Champion. Jax posted a comment made against the COVID-19 vaccine and added her own comments that acted as fuel to the fire.

The WWE Universe had a field day on Twitter following Nia's comments

Jax stated that God made her immune system and she trusts him the most. At a time when thousands of people were dying on a daily basis, Jax's negative comments about the vaccine were bound to leave fans in anger. Wrestling fans took to Twitter and other social media platforms to berate her for her comments. Jax was already unpopular among a large part of the WWE Universe for her in-ring work, and her statement about the COVID-19 vaccine only made things worse for her.

#1 Shayna Baszler posts controversial story immediately after Becky Lynch's pregnancy announcement

Following WWE Money In The Bank, Becky Lynch vacated her RAW Women's title on the Red brand and announced that she was pregnant. The wrestling world collectively sent her best wishes and love, but there was one person who didn't care about Lynch's baby one bit. Becky Lynch's WrestleMania 36 opponent, Shayna Baszler called the unborn baby 'a miserable parasite'.

The former WWE NXT Women's Champion didn't stop here

Shayna Baszler wasn't done with her insults, as she later took to Instagram and posted a story. In the story, she explained the meaning of the word 'parasite' and hinted that she isn't wrong while making those comments about Lynch's baby. The WWE Universe took major offense to Baszler's comments and she was heavily slammed on social media. Becky Lynch was probably in a good mood around that time, as there wasn't any response from her side. Lynch went on a hiatus due to her pregnancy and there's no news yet if she will ever return to the squared circle.
