The 5 coolest rap-based entrance themes in the WWE

Styles’ song has a very Doors-ish feel to it

WWE has always wanted to dig into popular culture and the company has tried various avenues to do the same – be it celebrity guest appearances, producing movies or selling records. Most of WWE Superstars’ entrance music is elaborate and attention-catching and some of them are rap based.

John Cena might have started the rapping revolution as far as the WWE is concerned, but in the decade since his Vanilla Ice impersonation, many other Superstars have associated themselves with rap music – either as a part of their gimmicks or more frequently, as part of their entrance themes.

This list takes a look at the top 5 rap based entrance themes in the WWE.

5. Cryme Tyme – ’Bringin da hood to you’

Cryme Tyme remains one of the most talented tag teams never to have actually captured the WWE Tag team titles.

When Chad Gaspard and JTG debuted in the persona of lovable thugs from Brooklyn, the audience warmed up to them immediately. They had feuds with John Morrison and The Miz for the WWE tag team titles and also with Chris Jericho and The Big Show for the Unified tag team titles, but could never capture the gold.

At least, we got their awesome entrance music to remember them by. Whenever the words ‘Brooklyn, Brooklyn’ hit the titantron, the fans knew that they were in for a treat.

4. R-Truth – ‘What’s up?’

R-Truth’s WWE career might not have taken off in the way that he had expected to, but the former K-Kwik has won the United States, Tag team and Hardcore championships in his stint with the company even though he has stayed in the lower mid-card slot almost entirely.

The first ever African-American NWA World Champion’s WWE entry was rapping the ‘Get rowdy’ lyrics with the Road Dogg, but it is the ‘What’s up’ entrance theme during his second stint that makes the cut in this list.

The music is entertaining and R-Truth – who once aspired to be a singer – has considerable music skills, even though him rapping the same song every day to the ring has taken off the sheen quite a bit.

3. MVP – ‘I’m comin

MVP was portrayed as the hottest free agent in wrestling prior to his kayfabe signing a contract with SmackDown. The future United States and Tag-team champion had an elaborate entrance with an inflatable tunnel as well as ‘Power ranger’ like ring gear.

But the most impressive feat about his entrance was the music – ‘I’m comin’ entrance theme fitted in perfectly with Porter’s hype and the forecast that he would do great things in the WWE.

The ‘tick-tock’ opening section of the song is a beauty as well.

2. Sasha Banks – ‘Sky’s the limit’

The best entrance music in the Women’s division today is undoubtedly ‘Sky’s the limit’ belonging to Sasha Banks.

The music meshes well with ‘The Boss’ in her persona as someone who stays down for nobody and it adds to her already irresistible charisma.

1. John Cena – ‘Basic Thuganomics’

There could only be one winner in this list – The old entrance music of the man who did a freestyle rap en route to becoming the most recognisable figure in the WWE from the mid-2000s. John Cena’s ‘Basic Thuganomics’ has everything a rap music fan could ever ask for.

“The war rhymer, turning legends to old-timersMy insides is like a viper biting through your one-linersNew Deadman Inc, and we about to make you famousTaking over earth and still kicking in Uranus”

There is a reason that the fans have been clamouring for the old ‘Word life’ Cena to return and this theme music is one of them.
