You hear everyone say it all around the world anytime the topic of professional wrestling is brought up. "But, that stuff is all fake." People need to start understanding that there is a very real difference between fake and scripted. And, professional wrestling is scripted.

The risks undertaken by the wrestlers are very much real. Sure, the outcomes are predetermined, but there is a huge amount of skill and practice involved in order to pull off moves safely. This is doubly true when there are weapons involved.

While tables, ladders, chairs, and the likes can actually be built to be safe, that is not the case with thumbtacks - and they can lead to some of the most gruesome spots in all of professional wrestling.

So, without any further ado, here is our list of 5 crazy thumbtacks spots in professional wrestling:

#5) Chris Jericho - WWE Extreme Rules 2016

When Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose decided to settle things in an "Asylum match" no one quite knew what to expect. What it actually turned out to be was quite lacklustre but the match did feature one hell of a thumbtacks spot.

Y2J went for the Codebreaker only for Dean to counter and plant his opponent back first into a bad of tacks. The match then ended with Deano delivered a Dirty Deeds onto the sharp objects once more.

Jericho had to have 69 of the thumbtacks removed from his body in the aftermath.

#4) Ric Flair - ECW 2006 and WWE Summerslam 2006

Ric Flair took not just one but two thumbtacks spots in 2006 and both in the space of just one month. First, he was ragdolled onto a bed of tacks by The Big Show where he actually swung around and ended up landing stomach first.

The second, though, came at WWE Summerslam 2006 when he faced off against Mick Foley in an I Quit match. With both men in the twilight of their careers, they decided to break out the thumbtacks in order to make the match special.

Flair took one hell of a nasty bump on the tacks as he went in back first.

#3) Edge - WWE Wrestlemania 22

WWE Wrestlemania 22 was the coming out party for Edge to get himself over as a top-level heel who could hang with the toughest of the tough and for that, he had to go through Mick Foley and a bed of thumbtacks.

With both men beating the ever-living crap out of each other in a Hardcore match, the highlight came when Foley back slammed the Rated R Superstar onto a bed of thumbtacks. That image of Edge's back looking like a pincushion is one which will live long in the memory.

#2) Randy Orton - WWE Backlash 2004

When Randy Orton was establishing himself as a truly gifted WWE superstar, he was going through his Legend Killer phase. And, one of those legends happened to be Mick Foley. The two men decided to settle their differences in a Hardcore match at WWE Backlash 2004.

As the match progressed, both men bloodied and battered each other with Orton finally looking to close things out with an RKO on a bed of thumbtacks. Foley reversed and threw his younger opponent back first into the tacks evoking one of the greatest sells of a thumbtacks spot, ever.

That is probably because Mr RKO had never felt anything akin to that in his life and this went a long way in legitimising Orton as one to watch.

#1) Mick Foley - WWE Royal Rumble 2000

For all the times that Mick Foley has put his opponents through thumbtacks, those are nothing to the number of times he himself has been a victim to the merciless little daggers. And, there is no greater example of that than at the 2000 WWE Royal Rumble pay per view.

Going up against Triple H in his Cactus Jack avatar, Foley went for broke and allowed The Game to Pedigree him face first into a bed of thumbtacks. It is by far the craziest tacks spot in the history of the WWE.
