It is never a surprise to see WWE heels account for a bigger threat to the titles in the promotion. More often than not, they make their gimmicks more interesting than the popular babyfaces, which is always great for good storylines. Some of these heels manage to make a better claim for the prize and deserve to get their hands on the gold owing to their compelling runs.

In this article, we will take a look at top five heels in WWE today who deserve a title shot this year. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

#5 Jey Uso (WWE SmackDown)

Roman Reigns’ heel turn massively benefited the said Superstar. His return to WWE, his alliance with Paul Heyman, and his Universal Championship reign was executed with utmost perfection on SmackDown. That said, if there’s anyone else who also received a huge advantage from this storyline – it is Jey Uso.

Following Reigns’ title victory, we saw both him and Jey Uso lock horns in a brilliant match. The entire narration of their feud was compelling enough for the fans to remain invested throughout its duration. Although Jey Uso already had multiple tag team title reigns to his name before this feud, it was his rivalry with Reigns that did more than enough to establish him as a reliable singles Superstar.

Admittedly, both Reigns and Jey Uso overcame their issues, but it is important to note that The Tribal Chief still leaves no stone unturned to ‘keep his cousin in line’. Jey Uso has been essential in Roman Reigns’ run as the Universal Champion. It would make for a great argument in favor of Jey Uso at some point in the future.

WWE should wait it out for a couple of months to have both Reigns and Jey Uso involved in a brutally personal storyline once again. Whether its WrestleMania or SummerSlam this year, if there’s anyone who deserves to dethrone Roman Reigns as the Universal Champion, then it is Jey Uso. He was passionate as a babyface and is even more intense as a conflicted heel.

In the meantime, Jey Uso can undoubtedly get a shot at Big E’s Intercontinental Championship on WWE SmackDown. If the creative does right by this feud, then it would certainly deliver a memorable storyline on SmackDown. We hope to see Jey Uso evolve and eventually enter the title picture once again on the Blue brand.

#4 Alexa Bliss (WWE RAW)

This would be huge for WWE RAW

It’s been a few years since Alexa Bliss last got her hands on a singles championship in WWE. The former three-time RAW Women’s Champion could undoubtedly use another shot at the title on the Red brand. Bliss is one of the complete performers in WWE today. She has been nothing short of brilliant ever since she turned heel and allied with ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt.

Currently, Alexa Bliss is doing a great job in keeping her gimmick both dark and intriguing which makes her the most entertaining heel in the women’s division. Someone like her shouldn’t be reduced to a sidekick for The Fiend. Instead, the creative should allow her to explore her character inside the ring by letting her go after the other top Superstars on WWE RAW.

Eventually, she could lock horns with Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship and not a lot of people would complain if she wins the title. Asuka is already a tag team champion alongside Charlotte Flair and losing her singles title won’t her credibility that much. In addition to that, the Red brand desperately needs fresh feuds in the women’s division, and this title change will help the cause in WWE.

#3 Braun Strowman (WWE RAW)

The last time we saw Braun Strowman in WWE was on the episode of RAW that followed Survivor Series 2020. During the show, all the RAW’s Survivor Series team members were fighting about who should get a chance to challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship. Strowman wasn’t happy that he was not directly chosen as McIntyre’s next challenger and ended up attacking Adam Pearce.

This led to his indefinite suspension from WWE (kayfabe, of course). There were rumors about him sustaining an injury, and he is expected to make his return sometime this year. When he makes his return on the Red brand, Strowman should definitely get a shot at the title. His heel turn came at an exciting point, especially if you consider the recent changes in his personality and in-ring maneuvers.

Strowman has evidently worked hard on both his in-ring skills as well his mic skills that reflected a positive change in his demeanor. Even if WWE doesn’t want him to get his hands on the title just yet, he can certainly look like a credible challenger for the world title. Strowman has a lot of potential, and he can stir things up in the WWE Championship picture – something that RAW desperately needs amidst its battle against low viewership.

#2 Shayna Baszler (WWE RAW)

Shayna Baszler was arguably the most intense women’s champion in WWE NXT history. She was a dominant champion, and there are enough good matches to back that claim. Unfortunately, she has lost a part of that charm on the main roster, but she can’t be blamed for that. She is still one of the most credible heels on WWE RAW and should get a shot at the title this year.

Baszler is not a conventional women’s Superstar in WWE. Instead, she is ruthlessness is as convincing as it could get. A couple of good storylines and compelling feuds will push her back to her best form, and it can all start with a title feud. In fact, she is one of the few Superstars who can be trusted to deliver a brutal match anytime she steps inside the ring.

It feels justified to say that women’s division on WWE RAW has been boring over the last few months. We saw the same matches again, and that did little to nothing in developing other talents. Hopefully, the creative will put Baszler back into the title picture and book her as a credible heel – a role that she dons and executes perfectly.

#1 Bobby Lashley (WWE RAW)

After struggling for a long time in WWE, Bobbly Lashley finally got the momentum he needed once he allied with MVP. Along with The Hurt Business, Lashley has established himself as an entertaining performer on RAW, and he is looking better than before. His most recent match against Riddle also proved that he just needs good booking to deliver aggressive and entertaining matches.

As of now, Lashley is expected to engage in a title feud with Riddle with his United States Championship on the line. If he loses his title, he should still remain in the title picture. His recent performances on the Red brand have done enough to prove that he can carry the gold well. If not, the creative always have the option to push him into the world title picture, specifically for the WWE Championship.

Lashley might be the reigning champion, but with the current momentum, he deserves more in WWE. He would make for an excellent challenger when it comes to facing other top names in WWE. In fact, his last feud with Drew McIntyre was more than enough to convince us that he will always pose a threat to someone’s comfortable title reign.
