5 current WWE stars you didn't know had criminal records

Many current WWE stars have criminal records

WWE works hard to ensure that their superstars are role models to the younger generation of the WWE Universe. Many young children want to grow up to be just like their favorite WWE superstars, so these performers have to make sure they are seen in a certain light.

Sadly, they haven't always been the squeaky clean stars that are seen on RAW or SmackDown each week. WWE stars' personal lives are not strictly clear-cut black and white. Many stars have struggled with substance addictions, for instance, and others have been involved in DUIs.

The company is certainly aware that these stars have criminal records, but for some of them, their brushes with the law came before they decided to pursue a career in a wrestling ring. Thankfully, many of these stars have since turned their lives around. Sadly, that isn't the case for all of the stars on this list.

#5. Jimmy Uso

Perhaps the most recent WWE star to be placed under arrest, Jimmy Uso was arrested for a DUI back in July 2019. Uso was booked after he was pulled over and declined a sobriety test. He was seen driving erratically after "swerving left and right."

This was Uso's third DUI after charges in 2011 and 2013, and the second time in mere months that he was arrested after an altercation with police officers in February 2019.

Uso's case went to court in the fall of 2019 and the former Tag Team Champion pleaded "no-contest to interfering with a government employee in exchange for paying a $450 fine”.

Naomi took to Twitter after the altercation and defended her husband after it was revealed that to was the former Women's Champion behind the wheel.

“I was NOT ticketed, I was NOT drinking, leaving the lot I was unaware that it exits to a 1-way street (it was dark snow no signs no traffic I was pulled immediately made a mistake and I own it) as for my husband he's more of a man you'll ever be & I'll leave it at that #blocked.”

#4. Charlotte Flair

Charlotte is a former 12-time Women's Champion in WWE and has become one of the biggest stars and role models in the current WWE Women's Division. But, even the daughter of Ric Flair has had her run-ins with the law in the past.

Before Charlotte decided to follow her father's footsteps in WWE, The Queen was arrested for assaulting a police officer. Flair was part of a fight involving her boyfriend at the time and her father back in September 2008.

Flair pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to 45 days in jail, this was then suspended to supervised probation and a $200 fine.

Flair joined WWE back in 2013 after her younger brother Reid passed away and has since been pushing to live out his dream. Reid always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and Charlotte decided to pick up that mantle after his passing.

The WWE Hall of Famer talked to The Charlotte Observer back in 2017.

"Johnson yelled, 'Your daughter–!' and that's all I had to hear. My daughter did everything for this guy. He could barely hold a job. I got up and said, 'Do you think you're a man behaving this way? You're not a man.' Ashley's boyfriend exploded in a fury and started throwing punches at me. I just stood there. ...Police arrived, and all hell broke loose. ...When one of the police officers entered her space and asked her to put her hands behind her back, I heard her say, 'Don't touch me. I said don't touch me.' The next thing I knew, the officer used a Taser to subdue her. She was brought to the floor and taken into police custody in handcuffs. Her boyfriend assaulted me, I had bruises on my face, and somehow my daughter, who tried to be the peacekeeper, was arrested."

Charlotte is now engaged to former WWE NXT and United States Champion Andrade.

#3. R-Truth

R-Truth is one of the longest-tenured stars in WWE at present and someone who easily broke the record for the most Championship reigns in one calendar year with the 24/7 Championship in 2019.

Truth is someone who allowed wrestling to completely turn his life around since he admitted that in his early 20s he would sell cocaine on the streets to make extra money. Truth dropped out of high school at 18, but continued to sell drugs to finance his lifestyle.

The former Champion was arrested four times and spent different lengths of time in prison before a stretch of 13 months. Truth went to a half-way house after his release from prison, which is where he met Jackie Crockett, who looked to convince Truth to join the wrestling business. Truth, however, was more focused on his music career.

For the next two years, he pushed to make it big in the music industry, before contacting Crockett and expressing an interest in becoming a wrestler. The former champion debuted at Pro Wrestling Federation (PWF) back in 1997 before heading to WWE in 1999.

Truth left WWE in 2002 before returning in 2008 and has since been one of the company's most reliable talents.

#2. Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy is one of the most entertaining wrestlers of the past generation, but with his style came a substance addiction that he has struggled with for the bigger part of his career. Hardy has violated WWE's Wellness Policy a number of times and was released from the company in 2003. The reasons given for the release were the stars erratic behavior, drug use and refusal to go to rehab.

Hardy has since returned to WWE numerous times but his legal issues have continued. Hardy was arrested in 2009 for "controlled prescription pills and possession of anabolic steroids" and was sentenced to 10 days in prison.

The former World Champion was arrested in July 2019 for public intoxication whilst still contracted to WWE, then arrested again in October last year and charged for charged with driving while impaired.

WWE even decided to add Hardy's recent legal history to his storyline with Sheamus since he was arrested for a hit and run on Elias a few weeks ago on an episode of SmackDown. In a nice twist, however, it was revealed that Hardy was actually clean and simply framed for the crime by the Celtic Warrior.

#1. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns hasn't been seen on WWE TV since March, partly due to him recently welcoming his second set of twins with his wife Galina. Whilst Reigns has become WWE's biggest star of the last decade, his past has followed him.

As noted in an SK Flashback, a few weeks before Reigns was signed to WWE's developmental brand in Florida, the former World Champion was arrested in his home town of Pensacola, FL.

Reigns was arrested for a list of offenses including disorderly conduct, intoxication, affray, unlawful assembly, and riot. According to the report, the arrest was kept under wraps until 2013 when his mugshot was published online.

This was before he began his career in 2010 and Reigns was released on $1000 bond at the time and forced to pay $500 for each of his offenses.

Much like Charlotte, Reigns has learned from his run-in with the law and has since allowed wrestling to become his focus. The former World Champion hasn't had another other issue with the law in the last decade.
