5 dream matches between past and present WWE Superstars

The Texas Rattlesnake!

The Attitude Era was one of the greatest periods in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) history, as it was essentially an 'anything goes' time in professional wrestling.

The pioneers of that era created pure and raw sports entertainment that got fans hooked. The characters and storylines were iconic, the promos were chilling, and could get one overwhelmed with anticipation.

Changes and restructuring at WWE have created some ethical and moral considerations to modern wrestling programming. The script writers have become predictable, and seemingly out of ideas.

A quick look at WWE's social media pages will tell a story of unhappy and dissatisfied fans. We are now in the PG era, which takes the sting out of many thrill-seeking supporters of the WWE.

However, there are superstars from the past, who in their prime, would really create a buzz if they were to battle the current breed of wrestlers. Some of these past wrestlers caused chaos on Monday Night Raw, and back then SmackDown was a hub of destructive action. What would happen if these two generations collide?

#5 Gangrel vs Bray Wyatt

Gangrel was at best a mid-card performer. He was the architect of one of the bizarre heel tag teams of the Attitude Era called The Brood. This group also had future tag team stars Edge and Christian. Gangrel was not given the credit he deserved, given his gimmick. He had a Gothic vampire persona that caused chills, and his entrance was epic to match his character.

Picture this, the Gothic vampire against 'The Eater of Worlds' Bray Wyatt. The promo itself would be chilling due to Gangrel and his blood thirst story line. Wyatt, who formed the dominant Wyatt Family, would then take over with his dark cryptic messages to deliver a powerful build up.

The creative team would then put dark arts stipulations and background for this clash. There would be a blood vs dark arts kind of theme, just to spice the match up.

#4 Edge vs Seth Rollins

Edge broke from his tag team, to become one of the greatest heels of his era. He was seen as the ultimate opportunist, as he would pounce whenever a chance arose to secure victories. Edge could not hesitate to hop onto the cheating bandwagon if his life depended on it as per his character.

Rollins' persona took a heel turn when he betrayed The Shield. This was a clever move to get into the good books of The Authority. His reward was the WWE Championship and several accolades along the line.

He saw an opportunity and grabbed it as Edge would. A dream match would be a high stakes title match to see which of the two could outfox the other.

#3 The Rock vs Bobby Lashley

The Rock is probably the greatest performer on the mic, as he knew how to get into people's heads with his words. He would definately have a field day with Bobby Lashley in that regard. The Rock's words would infuriate Lashley who is truly a wonderful physical specimen.

It would be a clash between the will of The People's Champ against outright brute strength. Lashley also has the speed advantage on top of the devastating spear in his arsenal. Both are known to be resilient competitors, so this match would go down to the wire.

#2 The Undertaker vs Braun Strowman

The Deadman has been an iconic figure for the better part of over two decades. At WrestleMania, his streak will never be replicated. His persona of a dead supernatural entity is probably the most popular.

He has won many encounters against bigger and stronger opponents, and he also has one of the most deadly finishers in The Tombstone Piledriver.

At his prime, would The Undertaker be able to keep up with The Monster Among Men? Strowman is scripted as a 6 ft 8 monster who displays impressive strength and aggression at will.

He does not go down easily, and has even manhandled the Big Show on several occasions. In battles with Undertaker's kayfabe brother Kane, Strowman dominated.

The big question is how he would fare against The Deadman. Strowman is the type of wrestler who could care less of Taker's status and achievements. He would be looking to increase his stardom by not only beating The Undertaker, but also manhandling him in the process.

#1 Stone Cold Steve Austin vs John Cena

Cena is loved and hated in equal measure

Stone Cold is regarded as the greatest WWE wrestler of all time. Whenever the glass shatters to indicate The Texas Rattlesnake was coming, the crowd would get on their feet.

It did not matter whether he was a heel or babyface, Austin definitely fired up the crowd. He was the poster boy of the Attitude Era. One time Vince McMahon was angry and told Austin,

"There isn't a damn thing you wouldn't do"

This statement showed that Austin raised hell on anyone, including his bosses.

Cena is a 16-time world champion, and is the most loved/hated WWE Superstar of the last decade. He has been the franchise player for WWE coming into the modern era.

His superman persona has earned him victories over monsters such as The Great Khali and Mark Henry. His popularity in his era could be likened to Stone Cold's. What would happen if they went toe-to-toe?
