5 dream matches for The Rock outside WWE we may never get to see

The Rock is one of the most-famous names ever to step foot in a WWE ring. He made his name during the Attitude Era, and then in Hollywood becoming a global movie superstar.

As fans, we always talk about dream matches that we'd like to someday see. Thankfully, with The Rock, we've seen a handful happen during his tenure in WWE. Star-studded matches against Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, John Cena and Brock Lesnar, to name a few.

But what about outside of WWE? Who would we want to see The Rock be pitted against, and who would we want to see go one-on-one with 'The Great One'. Of course, with The Rock's matches extremely limited these days, it's unlikely we'll ever get to see any of them come to fruition.

But with that being said, let's take a look at five dream matches for The Rock outside of WWE that we may never get to see.

#5 The Rock vs. Daniel Bryan

As of this writing, Daniel Bryan's WWE contract has expired, leaving him a free agent. Of course, speculation is rife that he may be joining AEW. Which means he is now officially 'outside WWE' to appear on this list as a dream match to face The Rock.

What a clash it would be. Bryan is by far one of the most stellar performers of the modern era in WWE, and on the independents before WWE, making him one of the all time greats. Interestingly, both men have previously spoken about the possibility of a match.

Daniel Bryan has been quoted saying on Twitter, in regards to The Rock and his role in the Disney film Moana:

"I would love to do a match with The Rock based solely on how many times my daughter has made me listen to “You’re Welcome.” And then of course it’s stuck in my head and I sing it all day"

The Rock responded in true Brahma Bull fashion via the same platform:

"I can see the writing on this wall from miles away – I’ll be jobbing again in the spirit of being a girl dad! Let’s do it"

The two would certainly deliver a match for the ages. We can already see Daniel Bryan going in for the Running Knee, only to be stopped by The Rock delivering the Rock Bottom. As long as we don't see anything Moana themed, we should be in for a treat.

Sadly, it appears on the list because it is a match that we may never get to see. Bryan is rumored to be AEW bound, and The Rock is set to face Roman Reigns in what may be his last-ever match.

#4 The Rock vs. Jon Moxley

Has The Rock faced anyone quite as unorthodox as Jon Moxley before? We certainly don't think so. That would make this match standout above the rest, if it was to happen on a wrestling card.

Jon Moxley, of course, was Dean Ambrose in WWE. He was a member of The Shield with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. He did have some interactions with The Rock during those days, but never faced 'The Great One' in the ring.

It would be a huge clash of styles, which would make for an interesting encounter, that might push The Rock to a different level than we haven't seen before. We for one would love to see it.

Moxley is applying his craft with AEW at this time and appearing for different independent promotions including GCW. The likelihood of this match ever happening is slim, but if it were to happen, you wouldn't be able to take your eyes off it. Good luck, Rocky!

#3 The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes

A history-making match between The Rock and Cody Rhodes would come with an enormous amount of emotion. When it comes to wrestling legacies, there's none better than the Anoa'i Family and the Rhodes family. Both families have had a huge impact on the industry for decades.

Now that Cody Rhodes has taken a big leap and essentially become a big fish in the AEW pond, his stock has risen massively since his WWE days. He's come into his own with more freedom, and has only gotten better and better.

Now, to put him in a match with The Rock, we're guaranteeing ourselves an instant classic. Cody is in his prime at 36-year years old and The Rock is coming to the end of his career, but can still deliver. Generation vs. Genaration. Era vs. Era. Anoa'i vs. Rhodes. Also, imagine the promo's. I'm already getting goosebumps thinking about it.

Cody, of course, is an executive and full-time wrestler in AEW, so it is one of the dream matches we may never get to see.

#2 The Rock vs. Kazuchika Okada

Kazuchika Okada
Kazuchika Okada

'The Great One' The Rock vs. 'The Rainmaker' Kazuchika Okada. Even more goosebumps than the last slide.

Okada is one of the greatest performers in Japanese wrestling history. Holding the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship 5-times, at the age of just 33. The Rock has never competed in Japan before, so already, the style and intensity of Japanese wrestling may catch him off guard.

Similar to Moxley's point from earlier, it would be the clash of styles that would elevate this match to become something of a spectacle. Of course, Okada's matches are known to go for some time, can The Rock keep up with that? Okada is also known for delivering 6-7 star matches, something The Rock hasn't achieved.

It'd be a fascinating encounter that would have us on the edge of our seats. Okada, of course, performs for NJPW and has wrestled in the USA before for IMPACT for a short time. If this match was to ever happen, it would certainly push the 6-7 star barrier.

#1 The Rock vs. Kenny Omega

Hold your hats for this one folks. If Kenny Omega and The Rock were ever pitted together on a wrestling card, it could be the ultimate dream match.

Omega, who made a name for himself in NJPW, now carries a whole host of world championship belts and appears in multiple promotions. Could another crossover magically land a dream match for the ages? It is unlikely, but we can be hopeful, right?

It would be a war that would get the world of professional wrestling talking. One of the most energetic performers of all time in The Rock, against a professional wrestler who brings his A-game every single time.

It's incredible to imagine what kind of magic these two would create in the ring together. We hope they will 'fight forever' as the famous chant goes, as it will no doubt go down as one of the greatest of all-time. Best hope that we keep Don Callis and the Bullet Club away from this action!
