As reported earlier in the day, Paige got down on one knee at a wrestling event in Puerto Rico and proposed to her boyfriend, the former WWE wrestler, Alberto Del Rio. The couple, as we’ve noted previously, haven’t been together for a very long time but have already made a lot of headlines due to the nature of their relationship.
Couples in wrestling are nothing new as we have seen couples in the WWE such as John Cena/Nikki Bella, Undertaker/Michelle McCool and Triple H/Stephanie McMahon to name a few. However, what makes the Paige-Del Rio coupling a lot more interesting is the fact that they’ve been shrouded by controversy since the day they started dating.
Every couple in the world has their ups and downs and so do Paige and Alberto. Amidst much controversy surrounding Paige’s status in the WWE, her social media outbursts, Alberto’s recent accident and other issues after leaving WWE etc., the two have managed to find their peace and happiness in each other and for that, we wish them the best.
Today, however, we are going to take a look at some facts and rumours about Alberto and Paige’s relationship that are in public domain and would definitely contribute to a better understanding of the couple.
#1 Parenthood
Paige and Alberto Del Rio have been together since at least May 2016 and rumours have recently surfaced saying that Paige might actually be pregnant. This might be the reason behind the proposal and the hiatus from the WWE. Paige may very well be keeping the pregnancy under wraps for the time being.
Paige, however, had previously revealed on an episode of Total Divas that she had been pregnant in the past, before coming to the WWE and had a miscarriage, after which doctors even happened to tell her that she might not be able to carry a child ever again. The video is below:
Alberto, however, is no stranger to parenthood as he is already a father to two daughters and a son by his ex-wife Angela Rodriguez.
He has even appeared in a Public Service Advertisement for fathers, along with his son Joseph. Here’s the video:
Should Paige ever decide to have kids with Alberto, the loving father in him would probably have her covered in that department!
#2 Previous ‘Engagements’
Alberto Del Rio, as mentioned previously has been engaged and subsequently married to a woman by the name of Angela Rodriguez. Alberto’s marital status was mostly kept under wraps until he himself chose to come public with it in an interview with NDTV where he referred to Angela as his “ex-wife”, signifying that the two had divorced.
Pictures of the wedding later surfaced online. It was also later revealed that Alberto was involved in bitter divorce proceedings with his former wife over the custody of their children. While Angela accused Alberto of committing adultery and being a cheat, Alberto’s accusations towards Angela were that of ‘cruel treatment’ from her. On the hand, Del Rio was reportedly in a relationship with Charlotte before he went out with Paige.
Paige has had her share of failed relationships as well. Before she started dating Alberto, Paige, too, had a boyfriend. Her boyfriend’s name was Kevin Skaff. He is known as the guitarist of a band called ‘A Day to Remember’ and appeared on the WWE show Total Divas with Paige.
The two were involved very publicly and Kevin was well liked by Paige’s family as well.
After a year of being together, Paige called the relationship off citing issues with commitment. She admitted to not being very good at relationships and also stated that she didn’t really have a solid reason to break up with Kevin in the first place but she just couldn’t do it anymore.
We hope that Alberto and Paige have better luck in partners this time around!
#3 Family connections
Alberto Del Rio hails from a very respected family of wrestlers. Alberto’s father is none other than the famous luchador Dos Caras, who is a well-known name in the Mexican Lucha Libre wrestling. His uncle is WWE Hall of Famer Mil Mascaras who is arguably the biggest legend in Lucha Libre of all time.
Paige’s family background too, is very similar to that of Alberto. Both her parents run separate wrestling promotions in the UK. Her brothers too, are professional wrestlers. She has been born and raised into wrestling just like Alberto Del Rio has been and this fact most certainly draws them closer.
Alberto has fostered close ties with Paige's family in recent times as well, with the Mexican wrestler making an appearance for Paige's dad Ricky Knight’s wrestling promotion World Association of Wrestling (WAW)’s event in Norwich, UK.
Paige, on the other hand, is also getting in touch with Alberto’s Mexican roots and has been touring with him on all his wrestling dates in the country.
#4 Commitment
Despite only being in a relationship with him since May, Paige already has had two tattoos permanently inked on her body for Alberto Del Rio. One tattoo on her finger states the word “Papi” and the other one her ribs is more revealing. The rib tattoo spells out “Alberto”, which is quite self-defining.
The two have been very public and open about their relationship with each other, constantly posting pictures posing with each other on Social media, as well as making public appearances. Even before today when Paige finally officially proposed to him, the relationship was as public as it could get.
Alberto Del Rio has also been very vocal in support of his now-fiancee through her struggles against the WWE and with her injury. One such tweet is mentioned below:

#5 The WWE allegedly wanted the two to break up
We’ve covered this story at Sportskeeda before and it truly came as a surprise to everyone when the news broke that the WWE didn’t want Alberto Del Rio and Paige to be in a relationship. Mr. Saint Laurent, on his podcast with Kevin Sullivan was quoted as saying:
“I do know that Mark Carrano, who fans might know from Total Divas, kind of like the office liaison guy, approached Del Rio and Paige individually and harassed each of them about their relationship. It was indicated that the office wanted them to sever their romantic relationship,”
This is highly uncharacteristic of the WWE as there have been relationships within the organisation in the past and there have never been any reports of the company making an attempt to sever those. The Paige-Alberto relationship seems to have been a special case, however.
Subsequently, the couple were split in the draft to different shows. Following which, Del Rio eventually quit the company and started wrestling on the independent circuit instead.
Since the reveal by MSL, Dave Meltzer and Jim Ross have both expressed their doubt on someone like Mark Carrano directly saying anything to either of the wrestlers, but haven’t ruled out the possibility that WWE splitting Del Rio and Paige in the draft was influenced by the company not being in favour of their relationship.
Despite all odds, the two have persisted and stayed with each other so far. We hope that the relationship works out for the now-engaged Paige and Alberto and they bot have extensive, fruitful wrestling careers for years to come.
