Can you think of a week better than one that hosts the Biggest Party Of The Summer?

WWE was filled with great moments and surprises this week as we got to see a lot happen during SummerSlam and the Raw and SmackDown that followed it.

Legends such as Trish Stratus and Goldberg returned to show why they are still considered the greatest, while Bray Wyatt debuted his new character and gimmick to amaze the WWE Universe.

This was followed by a surprise return on Monday Night Raw, and a big SmackDown Live debut match on Tuesday. Thus, the week was filled with some of the greatest moments we have seen from WWE throughout the year.

In this article, we will look at the five things that WWE got absolutely right this week and how they gave us some of the greatest moments of the year.

#5 The Cruiserweights’ rise

Cedric Alexander and Buddy Murphy got their chance to shine on Raw and SmackDown respectively
Cedric Alexander and Buddy Murphy got their chance to shine on Raw and SmackDown respectively

Mustafa Ali was the first man to make the big jump from the Cruiserweight division, 205 Live, to SmackDown Live, and immediately got the spotlight and big push that he very much deserved.

However, after the Superstar Shakeup, two more men who were moved from the Cruiserweight division to the main roster were not as successful. Both Cedric Alexander and Buddy Murphy are former Cruiserweight Champions unlike Ali, but remained under the radar for the longest time.

Now, thanks to fans spotting Murphy after the mysterious attack on Roman Reigns and Cedric partnering with The Big Dog, we have the two men getting some spotlight and a chance to shine.

This week on RAW, Cedric Alexander had an extremely good match with The Red Brand’s biggest heel, Drew McIntyre. On the other hand, Murphy got a chance to be on the preshow of SummerSlam where he took on Apollo Crews before getting attacked by Rowan. He followed that up with a great match against Roman Reigns on SmackDown Live this week.

Finally, the Cruiserweights are getting the recognition they deserve on the main roster.

#4 Goldberg’s redemption

After the match The Undertaker and Goldberg put on in Saudi Arabia at the Super ShowDown, both legendary Superstars were looking for a way to redeem themselves.

While The Undertaker did so by teaming up with Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules, Goldberg was looking for a target who he could take down easily and convincingly.

This resulted in Dolph Ziggler stepping up and giving another Superstar a chance to look even mightier than they already are, as Ziggler is said to be a great opponent to put wrestlers over.

In a short match between the two men at SummerSlam, Goldberg was able to lay waste to Ziggler under two minutes, even after eating two Superkicks.

What made things even better for the fans and Goldberg was the courage that Ziggler displayed and took two more spears from Goldberg after the match ended.

WWE did a great job booking Goldberg against Ziggler as his talent, size, and acting skills sold Goldberg’s redemption story to near perfection.

#3 The Viper’s Venom

Among all the storylines that were supposed to have a conclusion at SummerSlam, it was the story between Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton that we were not prepared to see end after just one match.

Kofi has defended his title against many predators, but Randy Orton seems to be the perfect villain who could dethrone the New Day member. WWE must have gone through many different endings of their match at SummerSlam before deciding to end it in a double count-out.

While most fans were not thrilled with the decision, the SmackDown Live that followed has given us hope that the two future Hall of Famers are not done with each other yet.

This means we will have at least one more mega match between these two men, most probably at Clash of Champions, which could lead to an even bigger storyline going forward.

#2 The Fiend

Bray Wyatt’s long wait to return to the ring finally paid off at SummerSlam as The Fiend took on The Extraordinary Man, Finn Balor.

Balor has been the one sparking fear in his opponents whenever he has brought back The Demon in him, and he tasted his own medicine when The Fiend arrived.

WWE did a terrific job with Bray Wyatt and his character, as everything from his entrance to the match and lastly, his exit was near perfect. It gave fans a taste of what to expect from The Fiend in coming weeks, and with another pay-per-view drawing closer, fans are busy speculating who The Fiend should take on next.

WWE continued to do the right thing with Wyatt, as they did not let The Fiend take the ring during Raw or SmackDown this week, thus protecting the character for special occasions.

#1 Sasha Bank’s return

Sasha Banks’ return has been one of the hottest topics of the summer. Before SummerSlam, nearly half of the WWE Universe was convinced that The Boss will show up during or after the Raw Women’s Championship match and give a fitting reply to Becky Lynch’s statement regarding her.

While the chances were high, Banks did not show up at the Biggest Party of the Summer. Instead, she arrived on Raw this week to interrupt Natalya, and gave her and Becky Lynch a beating that they will remember for a long time.

Banks thus turned heel in the process and seems to be the perfect woman who could give Lynch a run for her money, similar to what Randy Orton can do to Kofi Kingston.

The scene for the Raw Women’s Championship is now wide open and things are only going to get better with the inclusion of Sasha Banks in the picture.
