4 heavily underutilized superstars on the current WWE roster

Even with 5 hours of main roster television time, these superstars are finding it hard to fit in

Dean Ambrose (now Jon Moxley), Tye Dillinger (Shawn Spears) and Goldust (just straight up Dustin Rhodes) are just a handful of the superstars WWE has recently lost due. With more opportunities arising elsewhere for many talented superstars, WWE is at a constant threat of losing out on more top performers - and that could seriously damage the company in the long run.

Many current superstars who were successful in NXT were called up to the main roster due to their popularity and success with the fans, but were soon forgotten about - which must have surely disheartened them.

In this article, we have compiled the list and achievements of four superstars who were destined for a brighter future but have been underutilized and forgotten on the main roster.

#4 Eric Young

WWE needs to bring Young back in the picture

As a “TNA/Impact Original”, Eric Young won 11 championships during his career in that company. To produce similar results on a much larger platform, Young decided to join WWE where he was made part of the NXT brand. After some high profile matches and the creation of the SAni†Y (or SAnitY) stable, he was an NXT Tag Team Champion.

His main roster career did take off fairly well in 2018, along with his stable, but the creatives soon ran out of ideas for them and they disappeared from television.

Eric Young was drafted to Raw during the 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-up, without his SAnitY teammates, and began his singles run on the main roster. Since then, he has just been seen as part of the 24/7 Championship drama a couple of times, and was attacked backstage by Seth Rollins (after Baron Corbin approached him to be the special guest referee for their match.)

The entire wrestling community knows what Young can do between the ropes, and it’s high time the WWE brought him back to prominence, rather than keep him on the sidelines or they could lose a very big asset to a rival company soon.

#2 EC3

We expected a lot to come out of EC3's win over Dean Ambrose
We expected a lot to come out of EC3's win over Dean Ambrose

If you’ve just started watching WWE in the past couple of months, then we’re sure you wouldn’t have heard this name before. However, let us assure you that an extremely talented superstar by the name of EC3 is a part of the company.

Formerly known as Derrick Bateman during his original WWE tenure, EC3 showed great promise after returning to the NXT brand, even though he never won any titles in his stay there. He had some high profile feuds which allowed him to remain one of the most talked-about wrestlers on the brand.

On December 2018, WWE moved EC3 to the main roster along with a few other wrestlers and fans believed he would get the biggest push among them. While his initial days on the main roster were decent, which even allowed him to score a quick victory over Dean Ambrose, he was moved to battling on Main Event and soon disappeared from the scene.

On the June 24 episode of Raw, EC3 pinned 24/7 Champion Cedric Alexander, to claim his first championship within the company, but quickly dropped it to R-Truth seconds later following a distraction by Carmella.

EC3 has much so more potential and could become a great mid-card wrestler for the company, but someone or something seems to be holding the two-time TNA World Heavyweight Championship back which is surely hurting his image.

#3 Drew McIntyre

Walking back into the main roster on 16 April during the 2018 WWE Superstar Shake-up after a successful reign as the NXT Champion, Drew McIntyre's dominance ensured that WWE fans forgot about his past runs and focused on what he was doing now.

For the remaining half of 2018, McIntyre remained Raw’s most talked about heel as he was successfully able to show himself as the one of the greatest villains currently in WWE. Fans were so excited to see McIntyre rise at the time that WWE didn’t need any go with any gimmicks to push the man forward.

While we expected McIntyre to be a top champion by the first half of 2019, it’s a shame to see that he hasn’t even won a single mid-card title yet. His only success since his main roster return in terms of gold has come during his tag team reign with Dolph Ziggler, and he has since suffered a bit while trying to put Roman Reigns and Shane McMahon over.

McIntyre is a force that should be leading the Raw or SmackDown brand and not be finding it difficult to feature on WWE TV every week in mid-card match.

Fans will soon begin to lose interest in McIntyre, similarly to what has sort of happened with Braun Strowman in the past, as WWE did not pull the trigger at the right time. With the possible return of Lars Sullivan, we could again see WWE invest more time in building him again while ignoring other more talented superstars.

#4 Asuka

Asuka will need to pull-off a Becky Lynch sooner than later

Can you imagine WWE taking Goldberg out of his undefeated reign of dominance and putting him on the sidelines for months before forging him into a tag team with another wrestler?

Asuka was one of the most dominant and well-known female wrestlers in the world heading into WrestleMania 34. However, she was defeated by Charlotte Flair who was defending her SmackDown Women’s Championship to hand Asuka her first WWE loss.

The former SmackDown Women’s Champion held the title for merely 99 days (less than Bayley’s current reign as champion) and has completely fizzled out down the ranks thanks to WWE creatives turning the tides on her.

Asuka has lost almost all the dominance that she had and has become more of a mid-card wrestler than anything else and is now wrestling in a tag team with Kairi Sane.

WWE could have done so much more with The Empress of Tomorrow in the past year or so, but were too focused on building women such as Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch while constantly keeping Charlotte on top at the cost of Asuka’s value.
