All men took a few pages from the history book of their rivalries.
Wrestling fans around the planet were taken on an adrenaline ride

The WWE Super Show-Down match between The Undertaker and Triple H was the most anticipated match on the night. Although it was the match to close the show, the rivalry involving these four men is far from over.

Wrestling fans around the planet were taken on an adrenaline ride by these superstars. They used everything at their disposal to attack their opponents, ranging from steel chairs, tables, sledgehammers, to even the announce table. Not to mention, almost half a dozen close pin-falls took place during this match, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.

Aside the chaos and drama, there were a couple of moments which gave the fans glimpses of the past. The performers recreated a few of those iconic moments which are permanently etched in the memories of fans who have closely followed the rivalries of these four men.

Here are five such moments which took place during the match, and the historic moments they referred to.

#1 When Triple H couldn’t use the sledgehammer

The "Game" improvised last night

During the match, The Undertaker locked Triple H inside his signature Hell’s Gate submission maneuver. The hold was countered using a sledgehammer as The Cerebral Assassin choked The Deadman using the wooden handle, and forced him to release the hold.

Seven years ago, these two superstars faced each other in a No Holds Barred match. In the closing moments of that match, Triple H was caught in the same hold. He tried the best he could to get out of the hold, and was looking to use the hammer to do that as well.

However, The Undertaker managed to keep him away from using the offensive weapon as he pulled him deep inside the hold. Ultimately, The Game had nowhere to go, and was forced to submit, marking his loss in that match.

#2 When Kane crushed HBK’s throat using a steel chair

Last night, The Undertaker wrapped a steel chair around Triple H’s neck with the intention to crush it. Thanks to the interference by Shawn Michaels, Triple H was at the delivering end of this fatal move instead of being at the receiving end of it.

During his run as an “Unmasked Monster” in 2004, Kane used the same move to put The Show Stopper out of the show for a couple of weeks. The then victim was left in his own pool of blood, and was immediately taken to a local facility after the incident.

As it turned out, last night it was Kane’s brother who took the fall from this move at the hands of HBK’s best friend.

In the wrestling business, each superstar gets to have a few of his signature moves which are exclusive to him. Along with the Sweet Chin Music, Shawn Michaels happens to use a move which is famously quoted as The Elbow to the Heart by the announcing team.

Last night, Shawn Michaels delivered a Sweet Chin Music to Kane, which forced him to lie down on a table. Triple H followed the assault by delivering a Diving Elbow Drop, something much similar to what HBK used to do.

Although the move had a difference, as HBK flys from the top of the ring corner, fans can’t help but smile as The Game took a page out of his best friend’s playbook.

#4 When HBK kicked out of the Tombstone Piledriver

During the match at Super Show-Down, The Undertaker delivered a perfect Tombstone Piledriver to put his opponent to the ground. However, Triple H was able to kick out from a near pinfall, and painted a mixed feeling of frustration and disbelief all over the face of The Deadman.

In their first confrontation at WrestleMania, The Undertaker delivered same maneuver to Shawn Michaels. It seemed the match would end right there as The Phenom covered HBK for a pinfall with his signature rolled-back eyes. However, The Show Stopper kicked out of the three count, and ensured that the show continued.

The feat was repeated for a couple of times in subsequent editions of WrestleMania, but the camera angle along with the expression on The Undertaker’s face last night reminded us of the time it happened on the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania.

#5 When DX couldn’t pin The Undertaker

The Last Time Ever match ended last night as Shawn Michaels Super-Kicked The Undertaker, followed by a Pedigree from Triple H.

Years ago, Shawn Michaels served as the special guest referee in the Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Triple H at WrestleMania 28. During the match, HBK got involved in the action, and delivered a Super-Kick to The Deadman, which was followed by a Pedigree from Triple H, similar to what transpired last night.

However, The Phenom somehow managed to kick out of the three count that time, and went on to win the match. Notably, that match was billed as The End of an Era.
