August has officially arrived, and that means there is a change in the air. Schools are out, the days are getting hotter, and the WWE and it's fans are preparing for their biggest show of the season: SummerSlam.

Debuting on August 29, 1988, SummerSlam has seen plenty of huge matches from some of the biggest stars of all time. Over the years, names like Hulk Hogan, The Rock and Brock Lesnar have closed out the show, but there have been some Superstars who haven't been so fortunate.

Some Superstars, though they may be legendary former World Champions, have shockingly poor records at the event that many fans won't know about.

Here are five legendary WWE Superstars with terrible win/loss records at SummerSlam.

#5: The Undertaker (Five losses)

He may be one of the most iconic Superstars in WrestleMania history, but the Demon of Death Valley also has the distinction for one of the worst loss records in SummerSlam history.

Whilst he has also picked up 10 victories at the summer extravaganze, The Undertaker does have one of the highest loss records at the show, having been defeated by the likes of Mankind in 1996 in a Boiler Room Brawl, Bret 'Hitman' Hart in 1997 and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin in 1998.

Some losses have been more embarrassing than others, as the Phenom loss via DQ to John 'Bradshaw' Layfield in 2004, allowing the Texan to retain the WWE Championship. He would lose again the following year to Randy Orton.

In fact, the Deadman even has a draw on his record, after his 2000 match against his brother Kane resulted in a no-contest, allowing both men to escape the night without taking the loss.

#4: Triple H (Five losses)

Much like another Superstar on this list (we'll get to them later), Triple H has always been criticized for not putting others over, but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case when the Game has appeared at SummerSlam.

The Cerebral Assasin was defeated by Brock Lesnar in 2012 in what was one of his biggest matches at SummerSlam, and he has also been beaten by the likes of Shawn Michaels, in their incredible street fight in 2002, a cage match loss to Mankind in 1997, a triple threat against The Rock and Kurt Angle in 2000, and another triple threat loss in 1999.

Though he has had some major victories at the show as well (E.G. his Elimination Chamber win in 2003), it seems to be Game Over whenever the King of Kings appears at the August pay per view.

#3: Jeff Hardy (Five losses)

Whilst many fans will know that Jeff Hardy has one of the worst win/loss records at WrestleMania, only a few will be aware that the Charismatic Enigma has suffered a similar fate at SummerSlam. Despite being one of WWE's most popular and successful stars, Hardy has four losses throughout his career at the pay per view.

Hardy's most famous loss at SummerSlam came back in 2009 where he competed in the main event of the show in an amazing TLC match against CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship, where the Straight Edge star come out on top. Other Superstars that have bested Hardy include RVD in 2001, The Miz and the Miztourage in 2017, and Edge and Christian in 2000 in the very first TLC match.

Though he may often put on the match of the night with his daring, death-defying antics, there's no shortage of Superstars who have beaten Hardy at the event, including Shinsuke Nakamura who toppled the former World Champion last year.

#2: Randy Orton (Six losses)

At SummerSlam 2004, Randy Orton became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history, and though that August night clearly went in the Legend Killer's favor, the same can't be said for most years. Instead, Orton currently has six losses at Summerslam, a poor record when you consider the Viper's truly epic career, which has seen him capture 13 World titles.

In fairness to the two-time Royal Rumble winner, Orton has been defeated by some of WWE's biggest names, with losses against the likes of John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Sheamus, Triple H, Roman Reigns and Hulk Hogan to his name, which might make his poor record look a little better.

With a poor record like this, The Viper will be no doubt hoping to change things next Sunday, when he faces Kofi Kingston at the Pay Per View for the New Day star's WWE Championship.

#1: John Cena (Nine losses)

Though critics of John Cena claim that the former WWE Champion wins far too much, that certainly hasn't been the case for Cena when he has appeared at the biggest party of the summer: SummerSlam.

In his 14 appearances at the event, Cena has only won 5 times, meaning he's suffered nine losses against some pretty big stars, including Edge, Batista, Randy Orton, CM Punk (twice!), Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar Despite people constantly claiming he never puts over other talents, Cena has actually done an amazing job at helping other talents go over, with Seth Rollins beating him in the 'Winner Takes All' match, and AJ Styles picking up a clean victory over him in 2016.

Daniel Bryan is another Superstar who has bested Cena at the Summer tradition, as it seems that Big Match John's biggest foe isn't the likes of Brock Lesnar or Kurt Angle, but the event itself.
