5 major championships in WWE currently held by Scottish Superstars

Champions from Scotland
Champions from Scotland

Drew McIntyre set an example in front of the world at WrestleMania 36 that hard work, perseverance, and focus can take you places. 'The Chosen One' defeated Brock Lesnar and became the new WWE Champion in the hard-hitting main event of the year's biggest show.

The Scottish Psychopath had endured a long journey before he could make it to the top of WWE. Despite being 'chosen' by the Chairman of the company, Vince McMahon, he wasn't able to make it into the elite ranks of the roster and, as a result, found himself released by the company and searching for new beginnings on June 12, 2014.

While he has his own story of struggles, there has been a host of other wrestlers that worked through the competition to make a name for themselves in WWE. Now, they have finally got an opportunity to be a part of the biggest wrestling juggernaut in the world. They worked through thick and thin with the ultimate goal in mind, and now, in one capacity or another, find themselves performing regularly in WWE. These Superstars have proven that 'Impossible is Nothing' and that, if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it.

In this piece, I'll be listing the Scottish superstars that are a part of WWE and also have championship gold around their waist. Without further ado, let's dive into it.

#5 Wolfgang

Wolfgang is always 'Young'
Wolfgang is always 'Young'

Wolfgang is a part of the NXT UK roster and is one half of the current NXT UK Tag Team Champions, but this journey didn't reach its destination so easily. Barren Young (real name of Wolfgang) has worked his way through the wrestling scene in the United Kingdom since 2003 and finally got an opportunity to show up on NXT UK on the 14th of January, 2017.

His moves are difficult to counter as Damage Point has proven to be lethal between the ropes. Wolfgang is an unstoppable force in the WWE NXT UK Tag Team Division as he is the current, reigning, defending Tag Team Champion of the brand alongside his partner Mark Coffey. Watch him on BT Sport every Thursday as he entertains the WWE Universe with his work.

#4 Mark Coffey

The Champion that has left a mark on the wrestling scene
The Champion that has left a mark on the wrestling scene

Mark Coffey is Wolfgang's tag team partner, and together they are the NXT UK Tag Team Champions. The work done by Mark took a time frame of ten years before he could be amongst the best in the world and showcase his skills between the ropes.

He is agile and works well with any wrestler in the division. His match with Imperium's Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner serves as an example of his agility.

NXT UK has created a lot of superstars that are currently on NXT in the States, and he, along with his tag team partner, may be the ones that shift brands sooner rather than later. The fact that they have worked so well and displayed their Scottish Wrestling Heritage in the best manner possible is a testament to their wrestling skills.

NXT's U.S. Performance Center will provide them an opportunity to fight with some of the best teams that the wrestling business has in the country, and it will only hone their skills even further.

#3 Kay Lee Ray

NXT UK Women's Champion
NXT UK Women's Champion

Scotland has produced not just the best male but also female talents to have graced the WWE system, and Kay Lee Ray is an example of the phenomenal talent that has its roots in Scotland. She worked through various promotions but caught the attention of the WWE officials when she was a part of NXT in 2015 and the Mae Young Classic in 2017.

As a member of the NXT UK roster, she is the current NXT UK Women's Champion, which she won from Toni Storm after defeating Storm at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff.

She took part in the first-ever NXT WarGames match, where she teamed with Bianca Belair and Io Shirai but lost to Toni Storm, Rhea Ripley, and Candice LeRae. Despite the loss in the match, her work ethic and phenomenal performance continues to keep her at the top of the Women's Division on NXT UK.

We will have to wait and see when she makes her shift to NXT in the U.S. or to the main roster to showcase her skills.

#2 Nikki Cross

Nikki likes to play

Nicola Glencross, who goes by the ring name Nikki Cross, is a two time Women's Tag Team Champion in the WWE, but before making it to the big league, the Scottish Superstar had to work in various other promotions. Her work as a member of SAnitY in NXT, alongside Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, and her husband, Killian Dain proved invaluable in uplifting the career of the Superstar who embraced her unique persona.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross are the current Women's Tag Team Champions, and they won the gold at WrestleMania when they defeated the former champions Asuka and Kairi Sane. With the assistance and push from Alexa and the creative team, Nikki has become a fan favorite, and one would have to see how she performs if and when Alexa Bliss turns on her.

The Goddess of WWE can play a heel to perfection, and we have seen her showcase her skills in the past as well. This turn by the former Women's Champion will be the perfect way to put Nikki over with the fans as a singles competitor.

#1 Drew McIntyre

A story of triumph
A story of triumph

Andrew McLean "Drew" Galloway IV, known by his ring name Drew McIntyre, has the most inspiring story in all of sports entertainment. The Superstar that worked on the independent circuit became the chosen one in 2009 and was released in 2014.

This release came as a blessing for Drew, who worked over the next few years outside of the WWE and honed his skills before returning to the biggest wrestling juggernaut in 2017 and winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36. He is the most over Superstar currently and has already had a successful defense on the night of WrestleMania.

He transitioned from a heel to a babyface in a matter of months, and the entire WWE Universe is behind him at this point. Drew has the most coveted prize in the company by his side, and The Scottish Pschyopath is not afraid of defending it against his opponents in due course.

He has The Claymore Kick in his arsenal that proved fatal against Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, and that alone is enough to believe that he has a bright future.
