Can Randy Orton dethrone Drew McIntyre as the new WWE Champion?
Can Randy Orton dethrone Drew McIntyre as the new WWE Champion?

This week on WWE Monday Night RAW, Randy Orton was scheduled to name his next target. As many expected and wanted, Randy Orton set his eyes on the big prize as he challenged WWE Champion Drew McIntyre for a match at SummerSlam. McIntyre, being the fighting champion that he is, accepted it and went on to receive an RKO to end WWE RAW.

With that, the WWE Championship match for SummerSlam has been made official as the WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will defend his title against the man who has become more vicious than ever, Randy Orton.

Ever since defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 to become the WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre has had a great run with the title. While he has defeated the likes of The Big Show, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, and others, Randy Orton is surely his biggest challenge to date. Many WWE fans, in fact, believe that the 'Legend Killer' to dethrone McIntyre at The Biggest Party of the Summer.

So considering that does happen, let's take a look at the five major consequences of Randy Orton becoming the WWE Champion at SummerSlam. Be sure to comment and let us know whether you would like to see him win the title or not.

#5 A lengthy (and last?) World title reign for Randy Orton

This week on RAW, Randy Orton mentioned his long list of accomplishments in WWE. There's no doubt about the fact that he is one of the most successful and popular WWE Superstars in history. With a massive 13 World Championship victories, Randy Orton is only behind three other men in the list of most World titles.

If Randy Orton manages to defeat Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam, he would tie with Triple H for 14 World Championship reigns, a feat that many Superstars can only dream of achieving. Randy Orton is undoubtedly one of the greatest champions in WWE history.

But with thing to consider is that this might just be his last world title reign with WWE. At the age of 40 and with a huge WWE roster filled with talented Superstars, there's no certainty that he might get his hands on a world title again. And if that is the case, we might be in for one last long title reign which might last up to WrestleMania 37. More on that later.

#4 Randy Orton vs 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt at Survivor Series 2020

Ever since the debut of 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt, WWE Universe has had several dream matches for the character. While many want to see him take on the likes of The Undertaker and 'The Demon King' Finn Balor, one match that could be even better is to see this new version of Bray Wyatt take on his former rival, Randy Orton.

While Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre has been confirmed for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam, the second world title match will most likely by The Fiend vs. Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship. If Wyatt manages to defeat Strowman, which many believe he will, we might just see The Fiend vs. Randy Orton at Survivor Series 2020 in a Champion vs. Champion match.

The Fiend is here to attack those who have hurt Bray Wyatt in the past, and if there's one person who has betrayed Wyatt in the biggest possible way, it is Randy Orton. Remember, Randy Orton joined the Wyatt Family, only to turn on Bray and burn down the Wyatt Family Compound. He even took the WWE Championship from him at WrestleMania 33.

Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton at Survivor Series could be a huge match with a great backstory.

#3 Drew McIntyre in the mid-card scene if Randy Orton wins

Though Randy Orton has had a big 2020, Drew McIntyre has also been one of the most improved WWE Superstars in the last year or so. His pairing with Shane McMahon last year was doing no benefit to him as he was just a sidekick. But WWE thankfully realized that and started giving him the push that he deserved. Fast forward, everyone was rooting for the Scottish Psychopath to win the 2020 Royal Rumble, and WWE went all in with him.

Drew McIntyre went on to dominate his entire feud with Brock Lesnar and ultimately defeated him at WrestleMania 36 to become the new WWE Champion. While it was unfortunate that his big moment came in an empty arena, he has done a great job as the WWE Champion during these pandemic-hit WWE shows and that should not change during his feud with Randy Orton in the next few weeks.

If Randy Orton defeats Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam, it will likely lead to McIntyre spending some time in the mid-card scene on RAW. And that might just help uplift the entire mid-card division, thanks to the charisma and star-power that he now possesses. We might see him as the United States Champion on RAW, while Randy Orton holds on to the WWE Championship.

#2 Some amazing feuds for Randy Orton as the WWE Champion

Ever since Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship victory, the main event scene of RAW has seen a heel trying to dethrone the babyface champion. While it has been successful, Randy Orton winning the WWE title will change the things up as a heel would be on the top of the mountain.

Babyfaces chasing the titles always makes for compelling feuds and Randy Orton as the WWE Champion has some big potential challengers lying ahead of him. We've already mentioned the dream feud between Randy Orton and 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt, which in itself has the potential to be the feud of the year.

Other than that, someone like Kevin Owens could have a great feud with Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. Randy Orton can also help establish some new stars like Aleister Black, who has been lost in the shuffle in the last few months. Even Mustafa Ali would be a great choice

Or maybe we might see NXT's Tommaso Ciampa come to the main roster and challenge Randy Orton for his WWE title since the two have teased a rivalry recently. But there is also a huge WrestleMania match that could be in the works.

#1 Randy Orton vs. Edge at WrestleMania 37 for WWE Championship

Randy Orton was just another heel on the WWE roster until he started his personal rivalry with Edge on the road to WrestleMania 36. The Rated-R Superstar made his WWE return after almost nine years at the 2020 Royal Rumble. The next night on RAW, he and Randy Orton started what was arguably the best feud on this year's WrestleMania.

Randy Orton didn't leave any stone unturned as he channeled the most vicious heel inside him making for some compelling segments. While it was Edge who came out victorious at the Show of Shows this year, the two had a rematch at WWE Backlash 2020. In what was labeled as the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, Randy Orton defeated Edge after bringing back his Punt Kick.

The original plan was to have their third match at WWE SummerSlam, but Edge suffered an injury at Backlash and will now be out of action for some time. But if the reports are to be believed, WWE already has penciled-in on having Edge vs. Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37 in an I Quit Match. Moreover, WWE is looking to add the WWE Championship into the picture to raise the stakes.

Randy Orton winning the WWE Championship at SummerSlam could just be the beginning of this massive match at next year's WrestleMania, and by then the crowds might hopefully return
