5 matches Ronda Rousey needs to have in WWE

Every week, another new update is given on Ronda Rousey’s possible future with WWE. One week she’s posing with Triple H, another she’s watching her best buddy perform in the Mae Young Classic, the next she’s reportedly training with Natalya.

This week, Charlotte Flair has said that her dream match would be in the main event of WrestleMania 34 against Ronda, and Stephanie McMahon has confirmed that an offer is still on the table for the former UFC champ to make the switch to the world of sports entertainment.

In this article, we’ve taken a look at five potential opponents for Ronda if she decides to swap the octagon for the squared circle.

#5 Becky Lynch

Full of charm, full of harm, and she'll break your arm.

Daniel Bryan...Johnny Gargano... Becky Lynch. There are some superstars you just can’t hate. Charlotte recently described Becky as the most endearing superstar on the roster, and it’s hard to disagree.

Unlike other faces on the women’s roster, the Irish lass-kicker retains the full support of the WWE Universe, and the fact that she’s been underused on the main roster, at least in terms of major storylines, means we’re far from tired of not seeing her on our screens.

Now, a match against Becky really depends on how WWE would choose to present Ronda. Face? Heel? Neither? If she’s coming in as the wrestling-loving fangirl that we’ve seen previously, perhaps this wouldn’t be a good idea. But if she’s to be presented as a no-nonsense, baddest-woman-on-the-planet fighter that she was seen as a couple of years ago, then there’s no better opponent for her to take on - and defeat in ruthless, brutal fashion - than Becky. Maybe it could even be used in the build to a mega match against Charlotte.

#4 Nia Jax

She's
She's not like most girls!

While the likes of Bayley and Sasha Banks have been overused on Raw in the last year, Nia Jax is the one constant who has been protected and is still presented as a believable, destructive force that you do not want to mess with. She’s yet to hold the women’s championship, and may not for some time if Asuka is involved in the title picture right away, so has goals still to accomplish, but a blockbuster match against Ronda should definitely be considered by WWE.

Any match with Ronda would have to be used as a platform to bring more eyes on the product, not just for that one night but for the future, and if casual fans see the MMA star against the monstrous Nia, I’m sure they’d want to know more about the woman who claims she’s not like most girls. I’m sure they can call upon Nia’s famous cousin for a bit of promotion, too…

#3 Clash between Horsewomen

Lynch, Bayley, Flair & Banks v Rousey, Baszler, Shafir & Duke

MMA Four Horsewoman Shayna Baszler took part in the inaugural Mae Young Classic this summer, picking up impressive, dominant victories en route to her loss against Kairi Sane in the final, and has now officially signed a contract with WWE.

Whether that’s to be a part of the main roster right away, possibly siding with Ronda with whatever she does, or a run in NXT first, nothing is certain just yet.

But it is certain that WWE is keen to have Rousey appear in more of their programming. She already featured at the Mae Young Classic and, along with fellow Four Horsewomen Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, shot a couple of promos with Bayley, Becky and Charlotte. Perhaps a four-versus-four traditional Survivor Series match is a little too soon for this feud, but if and when it does happen, it’s going to be… to quote Booker T… GOOOOD!

#2 Charlotte Flair

Ch
Will Ronda v Charlotte main event WrestleMania?

The greatest female performer in WWE history - Charlotte Flair - versus the fighter that put women’s MMA on the map - Ronda Rousey - in the main event of WrestleMania 34? That’s the match that Charlotte wants, the match that Rousey probably wants. Will it happen? We’ll find out in the coming months, but it’s the one that makes the most sense.

Shortly after joining the main roster in 2015, Charlotte ambitiously stated that she one day wants to headline WrestleMania. At the time, it seemed fantasy talk, but just a year later she was in a featured match against Sasha and Becky, and 2018 could very well be the year that her dream becomes a reality. WWE’s biggest showcase event has never been headlined by two women before, and if it’s ever going to happen, this is the time to do it.

#1 Asuka

N
Nobody is ready for Asuka

Undefeated Asuka v Unstoppable Ronda Rousey? Take my money! At the time of writing, the Empress of Tomorrow is a couple of weeks away from making her WWE debut at TLC, having relinquished the NXT title following her Takeover: Brooklyn III victory over Ember Moon. It’s unclear who she’ll face at the PPV, but the assumption is that she’ll continue to wreak havoc on the main roster and remain undefeated until the end of time.

Until she comes face to face with Ronda. Potentially? Maybe? Probably not. But just imagine a situation where Ronda has had a couple of matches in WWE - realistically, let’s say against Charlotte and against the Four Horsewomen - and she wins them both. Fast forward to WrestleMania 35, and she goes one-on-one with Asuka, who has destroyed everyone in her path and has a ridiculous 299-0 record. Will it happen? Doubtful. Should it happen? Yes!
