What exactly does WWE have planned for Extreme Rules?

The Extreme Rules pay per view is less than a month away and while the official matchcard is still being filled, WWE hinted at a lot of interesting matchups over the last couple of weeks. Furthermore, they have done so in a way that leaves just enough to keep the WWE Universe interested while also moving each storyline forward in a meaningful way.

With that in mind and WWE needing to give fans a reason to watch the upcoming Extreme Rules pay per view, here are five feuds the company has teased for the event.

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us what matches you have seen WWE tease over the last couple of weeks.

#5 The Street Profits versus Andrade and Angel Garza

The Street Profits want the smoke, but will they keep the gold at Extreme Rules?

The Street Profits defeated The Viking Raiders Monday Night on Raw to retain the tag team titles and one has to wonder what happens next? Fans didn't have to wonder for very long however as Andrade and Angel Garza ambushed the champs and left them shaken.

While The Viking Raiders and The Street Profits saga was fun to watch play out, especially with the introduction of the ninjas, it is nice to see new opponents step up to face the champs. This could also be a shining moment for both Andrade and Angel Garza, who have been stagnating lately.

In fact, between Andrade losing the United States title to Apollo Crews earlier last month and the ongoing turmoil between Zelina Vega's clients, winning the tag team titles might just be the step up they need right now. It could also help lead to the eventual end of their tag team and force Vega to make a choice between her clients.

#4 AJ Styles versus Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle shocked the WWE Universe when he defeated AJ Styles in his debut match on SmackDown and more than proved that he could be the bro that ran the show, in the process. Styles is not the kind of Superstar to live with that kind of a loss, and it's obvious that the company is aiming at a round two.

Whether WWE decides to put the Intercontinental Title on the line this time around remains to be seen, but it would be a nice deal sweetener. It could even end up resulting in a passing of the torch moment, where Riddle proves once again that he is the real deal and forces Styles to acknowledge it.

In the end, it is always interesting to watch talent from NXT develop on RAW and SmackDown, and that's probably going to be a part of this feuds appeal. What should also be a part of the appeal is the fast and furious type of matches that these two will be able to put on, which should guarantee a good show.

#3 Randy Orton versus The Big Show

Randy Orton has been on a bit of a legend killing spree lately in WWE and the next man to step into his crosshairs seems to be The Big Show. The company devoted an entire segment on Raw to exploring some of their history and making it very clear that they would be crossing paths in the future.

Of course Randy Orton versus Big Show might not sound all that exciting of a storyline, but WWE promising to play up the history between the two is very tantalizing. What will we learn about their time together? Will we gain any insight into what is contributing to Orton's delusions? Finally, what's next and where does this ultimately culminate?

In the end, The Big Show is the perfect placeholder for this storyline and WWE can easily up the ante by adding a stipulation to the match. Hopefully the company will choose to focus on the storytelling elements of this match and give fans some insight into what is going on in Orton's head. Watching these two beat the hell out of each other would be fun too.

#2 Apollo Crews versus Bobby Lashley

Apollo Crews is now United States Champion and while it is a great accomplishment in his WWE career, it also puts a very big target on his back. Unfortunately for Crews, his refusal to join MVP's new faction last week on Monday Night Raw pretty much sets him on collision course with the group.

Bobby Lashley even stepped in to hammer that point home by locking Crews in a full nelson, which pretty much sets the two up for a match at Extreme Rules. While this is unfortunate, due to some fans hoping for Lashley versus Drew McIntyre part two, Lashley can still gain a lot of traction by winning the United States title.

Lashley versus Crews would be a great way to elevate both Superstars and maybe even be the start of a long running feud. In fact, between MVP creating a formidable faction and Crews needing established heels to test himself against, Crews versus MVP's group might just be a best case scenario for WWE right now.

#1 Braun Strowman versus cult leader Bray Wyatt

The WWE Universe had a lot of questions on their mind after Braun Strowman defeated Bray Wyatt to retain his Universal Title at Money in the Bank, but the company stayed mum for weeks about the loss. Wyatt even went on a three-week hiatus from television, which strengthens concerns about the future of the character.

Interestingly enough, The Fiend returned to WWE on the June 19th episode of SmackDown and discussed how he took the time off to learn new things. While some fans thought that was just an offhand comment, he followed it up by claiming that one of the things he learned was how to raise the dead.

Strowman interrupted Wyatt's Firefly Funhouse episode and claimed that he wasn't going to play his games anymore, but that all changed in an instant. In fact, when Wyatt revealed that he had revived his former cult member persona and was intending to use that to torment Strowman, it became clear that WWE wasn't done with these two yet.
