WWE Hell In A Cell 2020 is just around the corner. The annual PPV is solely focused on the hellish structure that houses the biggest matches possible at this time of the year. Hell In A Cell first came into being in 1997, when The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels battled it out inside the demonic structure at the Badd Blood PPV.

The fans loved the concept right away, as The Deadman destroyed Michaels for the better part of the match and used the cell effectively while doing so. The basic necessity of a Hell In A Cell match is to settle feuds that have been going on for a long time, and both competitors are ready to push others to their absolute limits.

There have been some occasions though when WWE gave us much more than a basic Hell In A Cell bout featuring two competitors. In this list, we will take a look at 5 of the most unique Hell In A Cell matches in WWE history.

#5 Roman Reigns vs Jey Uso ("I Quit" Hell In A Cell Match for the Universal title)

Let's start the list with the ongoing rivalry between Roman Reigns and his cousin Jey Uso. Roman Reigns returned to WWE at SummerSlam 2020, and it didn't take long for him to capture the Universal title. He also revealed his alliance with Paul Heyman around the same time. Reigns went on to defend the belt against his cousin, Jey Uso, at Clash of Champions.

Reigns destroyed the former tag team champion and retained his title at the event, but this is yet to come to an end. Things have gotten incredibly personal between the two Superstars, to the point that their issues can only be sorted out inside Hell In A Cell. To add to the drama, the match now has a big stipulation added to it, with the one uttering the words "I Quit" set to lose the match.

#4 John Cena vs Alberto Del Rio vs CM Punk (Triple Threat Hell In A Cell Match for the WWE title)

There have been over 40 Hell In A Cell matches in WWE history, but we have only had a single Triple Threat match inside Hell In A Cell so far. Back in 2011, Alberto Del Rio won the WWE title from CM Punk at SummerSlam. Soon after, John Cena defeated the Mexican Superstar to win the belt, but Punk wasn't going to go down without a fight. The trio locked horns inside the demonic structure in the first and only Triple Threat Hell In A Cell match in WWE history.

In the end, Del Rio won the Championship by hitting CM Punk with a steel pipe and pinning him. However, there was a big surprise waiting for the three competitors after the final bell.

Following the match, The Miz and R-Truth emerged out of the ring and launched a vicious attack on the three competitors plus the officials and cameramen. The dastardly duo was arrested as the roster gathered to witness the carnage. Triple H, in a fit of rage, attacked both men after they had been arrested.

#3 D-Generation X vs The McMahons & Big Show (3-on-2 Handicap Hell In A Cell match)

After WrestleMania 22, Vince and Shane McMahon continued their feud against Shawn Michaels and also began bothering Triple H, who was a heel at the time. It all led to Triple H and Michaels reforming DX in one of the biggest surprises of the year. The duo kicked off a major feud against The McMahons, with Vince and Shane doing everything in their power to put an end to DX. The feud finally came to an end at Unforgiven 2006. Vince McMahon, Shane, and Big Show took on Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a 3-on-2 Handicap Hell In A Cell match at the PPV.

After a bloody brawl that lasted for just over 25 minutes, Triple H and Michaels emerged victorious, thus putting an end to the feud. The ending was particularly an embarrassing one for Vince McMahon as his head was shoved up Big Show's behind by DX, following which HBK with a Sweet Chin Music and The Game gave a blow to the back of The WWE Chairman's head with a Sledgehammer to seal the deal.

#2 The Undertaker vs Triple H (Hell In A Cell match with Shawn Michaels as special guest referee)

At WrestleMania 27, The Undertaker extended his winning streak by defeating Triple H but didn't look too good after the match. The following year, The Undertaker confronted Triple H on the road to WrestleMania and challenged him to a match at the show. The Deadman didn't want last year's ending to be remembered by the fans, where he was seen being carried out on a stretcher. Triple H initially refused but later agreed when Shawn Michaels got involved. At WrestleMania 28, The Undertaker and Triple H collided inside Hell In A Cell, with Michaels officiating the match.

The brutal encounter almost gave The Undertaker his first WrestleMania defeat. At one point, he was on the receiving end of a Sweet Chin Music and Pedigree combination, but still managed to kick out. In the end, The Undertaker defeated Triple H for the third time at a WrestleMania, marking "the end of an era". Michaels would officiate another Hell In A Cell match a year later, between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton.

#1 Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker vs The Rock vs Triple H vs Stone Cold vs Rikishi (6-Man Hell In A Cell Match for the WWE title)

When one talks about the most star-studded matches in WWE history, this one usually makes it to the No.1 spot. In late 2000, several WWE Superstars were involved in the main event picture. Commissioner Mick Foley finally announced a 6-Man Hell In A Cell Match for the WWE title. Vince McMahon tried his best to cancel the match but to no avail.

At the event, all six men beat the living hell out of each other in an attempt to bag the top prize. At one point during the match, The Undertaker threw Rikishi off the top of the cell, on the back of a truck, which was filled with pine chips.

In the end, Kurt Angle managed to do the unthinkable and pinned The Rock to retain his WWE title. Austin would have the last laugh though, as he ended up delivering a Stunner to Angle to end the show.
