5 NXT vs Main Roster Matches that we would love to see

Cole vs Rollins?

On September 18, NXT will premiere live on the USA Network. The weekly TV show will be taped live from Full Sail University on Wednesday nights, meaning that the show will go head-to-head with All Elite Wrestling's weekly show on TNT.

While NXT's move to cable has been met with a lot of cynicism, we are of the opinion that this was something which was bound to happen.

Fans have been clamoring for an alternative in wrestling for quite some time now, and AEW is being seen as a beacon of hope by a lot of wrestling fans. But, somewhere down the line, the AEW Crew went a little overboard with their less-than-veiled attacks on Vince McMahon & Co.

This is essentially WWE's way of saying that they recognize the potential threat AEW could pose in the long run and, as such, they are putting out a product which has a nearly identical fanbase to compete with the young, upstart promotion.

NXT's cable premiere should be quite an interesting one. It was reported that WWE was looking to move some of the main roster talents back to NXT to get fresh new eyeballs on it. You can bet your bottom dollar that the company will be pulling out all the stops to make the show an absolute can't miss.

One of the things that they could is have NXT Superstars compete against main roster talent. This could be a huge rating draw for the company, as fans have wanting to see this concept come to fruition for quite some time now.

Here are five NXT Vs Main Roster dream matches that we would like to see:

#5 Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross Vs Chelsea Green and Deonna Purazzo (WWE Women's Tag Team Championship)

It's about time that the Women's Tag Titles are defended in NXT
It's about time that the Women's Tag Titles are defended in NXT

When the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships were introduced earlier this year, we were told that the titles would be defended across all brands which included NXT and NXT UK.

But, sadly, apart from a one-off appearance by then-champions, Bayley and Sasha Banks, the titles are yet to be defended at Full Sail. After being put in the backburner for the past few months, WWE seems to be finally putting some effort into building the division.

The current Champions, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, have been a constant on both RAW and SmackDown and have had three successful defenses, more than anyone in the title's short history. Cross and Bliss are NXT alumni and have been an effective unit so far in the reign as tag champs.

A team which has been quite the wave in the NXT Live event circuit has been that of Deonna Purazzo and Chelsea Green.

The Virtuosa and the Woman formerly known as Laurel Van Ness, collectively known as, VXT, have been killing it on NXT Live event loops.

Fans have been vocal about the mistreatment of the women's tag titles and given how big of deal NXT's move to the USA Network is made out to be, we wouldn't be surprised to see Bliss and Cross defending the championships on the very first live episode of NXT on USA Network.

Unlike the main roster, NXT has been some of the best tag-team wrestling in the world. Starting a Takeover with a killer high-octane, fast-paced tag match has almost become a tradition.

Bringing the Women's tag team titles to Full Sail will be a huge step in re-building the division for the women and given how much NXT values tag team wrestling, this in all likelihood will be a solid match.

#4 Randy Orton vs The Velveteen Dream

Orton and Dream would be an interesting matchup
Orton and Dream would be an interesting matchup

One of the biggest advantages that WWE has over other wrestling promotion has been its ability to build Superstars from the ground up. WWE has one of the best training facilities in any form of sports in the Performance Centre.

The company puts in a lot of time and effort in talent building and so far, it has worked wonders for the company.

Randy Orton and The Velveteen Dream are two of WWE's biggest homegrown talents in the past two decades. The Viper and the former Tough Enough contestant have a lot of similarities when it comes to their in-ring style.

Both of them love of play mind games with their opponents and are natural heels. They have a cerebral in-ring style which includes a lot of old school stuff. Dream, in particular, always come with tribute spots during his matches.

Just think of the kind of shenanigans we will get to witness if Orton and Dream were to square off against one another.

Both of them are known to go to any lengths to win a match. It will be a joy to watch this show of one-upmanship between two of the best talents of this generations.

#3 AJ Styles Vs Roderick Strong

Two of the most well-rounded wrestlers in the business at the moment, Roderick Strong and AJ Styles had to take a long road before arriving in WWE.

After being a stalwart of the independent circuit for over a decade and performing in every major promotion in the world, AJ Styles finally arrived in WWE at the 2016 Royal Rumble. The Phenomenal One quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the major players in the company.

He won the WWE Championship from Dean Ambrose at Backlash 2016, mere seven months after debuting in the company. Styles has become the backbone of WWE's main roster in a very short amount of time and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Strong arrived in WWE in and has been a part of NXT. The Messiah Of Backbreakers had a pretty tough time figuring out his character before hitting the sweet spot by joining forces with The Undisputed Era.

The former ROH standout has held the NXT Tag Team Championship alongside Kyle O' Reilly on two separate occasions and if things go as planned, Strong would end up with the North American Championship sooner than later.

Strong vs Styles will be a pro wrestling masterclass. Both Superstars have a strong submission game and also the ability to up the ante at any given moment meaning that this match will not have a single dull moment.

Give them 20-30 minutes and you are sure to get a MOTY contender from two of the best in-ring technicians in the business today.

#2 Bayley Vs Candice Le Rae

Bayley Vs Le Rae has all the makings of a great match
Bayley Vs Le Rae has all the makings of a great match

After being Mrs. Johnny Gargano for the majority of her run in NXT, Candice LeRae finally made her Takeover debut when she faced off against her friend-turned-foe, Io Shirai at NXT Takeover: Toronto during SummerSlam weekend. Despite losing the match, LeRae put on a performance of a lifetime against a very game Shirai.

LeRae was one of the most sought after female Superstars in the independent circuit prior to arriving in WWE in 2017. She is a former PWG Tag Team Champion along with her long-time partner, Joey Ryan. The duo known as The World's Cutest Tag Team were the backbone of the California-based promotion for a long time.

Bayley was one of the cornerstone's of NXT's Women's division before being called up to the main roster in 2016. Although her main roster run hasn't set the world on fire, Bayley is still one of the top female Superstars in the company and is the current SmackDown Women's Champion.

Following her victory over Ember Moon at SummerSlam, The Hugger laid out a challenge to LeRae via social media which the NXT Superstar replied to in affirmative.

While a match between two of the biggest babyfaces might not look exciting on paper, we believe that Bayley and LeRae can pull it off. This has all the making of a classic match.

#1 Seth Rollins Vs Adam Cole

This is a dream match fans have been wanting to see for years now
This is a dream match fans have been wanting to see for years now

In a recent interview with Lilian Garcia on her Chasing Glory Podcast, the reigning NXT Champion, Adam Cole named current Universal Champion Seth Rollins as his dream opponent in WWE.

Rollins has also been highly complimentary of Cole on numerous occasions. Both Superstars have had similar career trajectories. Both of them made a name for themselves in Ring of Honor and have held the ROH World Championship.

The duo has been a part of some of the most popular factions in recent memory. Cole and Rollins are coming off the back of the biggest victories of their respective careers at NXT Takeover: Toronto and SummerSlam.

Rollins and Cole are two of the absolute best in the business at the moment. They have been at the top of their game throughout 2019. It would be a delight to see these two former ROH World Champions go head-to-head inside a WWE ring.
