5 potential reasons why The Street Profits haven't had a WWE Tag Team title rematch

It's been almost two months since The Street Profits lost their WWE Tag Team Championships

The Street Profits held the WWE Tag Team Championships for more than 300 days before losing them to Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler in January.

Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins traded the RAW Tag Team Championships for The New Day's SmackDown equivalents when the duo were drafted into the blue brand back in October.

The Profits lost their titles on the January 8 episode of SmackDown. It has been almost two months since then, and they are still yet to be handed a rematch against Roode and Ziggler.

This past week on SmackDown, the former champions defeated Chad Gable and Otis and could soon be in line for a rematch. As of yet, it's unclear if the creative team is keeping them out of the picture for a reason.

Here are five potential reasons why that rematch hasn't happened yet.

#5 WWE could have delayed the rematch due to Montez Ford's injury

Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have been relegated to backstage segments on WWE TV over the past few weeks. It has prompted rumors that Ford was struggling with an injury.

The two men didn't wrestle on SmackDown for several weeks after Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler targeted Ford's leg. Many thought this was a way to give the two men a break and have a storyline for his injury.

WWE has confirmed nothing over the past few weeks, and the tag team division continued to flourish in The Street Profits' in-ring absence. Meanwhile, Ford and Dawkins appeared in backstage segments alongside Sonya Deville on SmackDown.

Interestingly, the two men returned to the ring two weeks ago, so it's now clear that if Ford was injured, he's now back at 100%. As noted, it's unclear if this was the reason why he didn't wrestle in the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble.

Ford being backstage at the Royal Rumble back in January and not being used on TV was also the basis for rumors about his injury. The former tag champion wasn't even factored into the Royal Rumble match plans since WWE named several other stars alternatives instead.

Now that Ford is back in action, The Street Profits could finally earn their long-awaited rematch against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode in the coming weeks. It's likely they will have to earn their shot first, though.

#4 WWE wants to focus on other teams in the division at present

Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler are the current WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions. However, it appears that the company is looking to create some more competition before they enter their next feud.

Otis and Chad Gable are getting a lot of attention following their heel turns. WWE could be looking to put the duo into the Tag Team titles picture. There's also Rey Mysterio and Dominik, who have been teaming together recently. Rey was interestingly who Otis decided to turn heel on a few weeks ago.

The Street Profits are one of the only established teams on SmackDown at present. Therefore it seems like the creative team has spent the last few weeks trying to build strength in depth on the blue brand.

#3 WWE is saving the match for Fastlane/WrestleMania

The Road to WrestleMania has always been a hectic one for WWE's biggest stars. Elimination Chamber only recently took place, but Fastlane is already the main agenda.

While The Street Profits didn't feature at the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber, WWE could be waiting for their rematch to happen at Fastlane.

If WWE can build enough teams in the SmackDown tag team division, an interference at Fastlane could then lead to a multi-man match at WrestleMania. The Profits could take on Rey Mysterio and Dominik, Chad Gable and Otis, and Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode at the biggest show of the year.

WWE likes to showcase multi-man matches at WrestleMania, and this would make sense given how Otis and Gable have been presented as a team in recent weeks.

The Street Profits recently defeated Otis and Gable, which would add to the storyline if Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins were given their rematch at Fastlane.

#2 WWE could be building to something bigger for The Street Profits

The Street Profits have already collectively held the WWE Tag Team Championships for 312 days. Instead of winning them straight back from Robert Roode and Dolph Zigger and then going on another run, WWE could have bigger plans for the duo.

Ford's wife Bianca Belair recently won the Women's Royal Rumble match and is now heading to WrestleMania to challenge for the SmackDown Women's Championship. Belair only made her main roster debut last year at WrestleMania to aid her husband, but she's already a stand-out star.

Ford could be the next one in line for a huge boost since he's become popular with the WWE Universe. It could be that WWE doesn't want to hand The Street Profits a rematch that they are going to lose. The company may want Montez Ford to look strong when he begins to challenge for singles accolades.

For now, it's unlikely that he will challenge Big E for the Intercontinental Championship. However, he would be an interesting challenger if Apollo Crews becomes the next titleholder.

#1 WWE could be planning a feud for The Street Profits with Sonya Deville

The Street Profits are babyface stars in WWE who rarely complain about not being given what they deserve. Back at Elimination Chamber, the duo approached Sonya Deville, currently working backstage with Adam Pearce, to ask for a title rematch.

This seemed like a fair request since it had been more than a month since they lost to Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler. Deville wasn't happy that The Street Profits had asked her this question on live TV, though. She claimed that they should conduct such business in her office.

Deville even stated that she was thinking about giving them a rematch, but it wasn't something that she was going to pursue after their outburst.

This is the first sign of being a WWE heel authority figure that Deville has shown since being given the job. It could have some major implications for the Street Profits moving forward.

The potential turn could even lead to Deville vs. Bianca Belair if there is any continuation of the story following WrestleMania.
