Two massive powerhouses will meet in the ring once again
Two massive powerhouses will meet in the ring once again

Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre battled each other at WrestleMania 37 and with the help of a distraction from MVP, the WWE Champion retained his prestigious title. So why then did Drew McIntyre defeat Randy Orton and Braun Strowman to become the Number 1 contender for the WWE Championship that Bobby Lashley holds?

In this article, we shall delve into 5 reasons why WWE may have chosen Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley for this particular spot. Be sure to leave a comment and let us know what you think below.

#5 Bobby Lashley did not defeat Drew McIntyre clean at WWE WrestleMania 37

Even though Bobby Lashley scored a comprehensive victory to kick off WrestleMania, it did not feel nearly as special as it could have. Yes, it was almost a flawless victory over Drew McIntyre, but MVP did interfere in the proceedings to help The All Mighty win. The WWE Champion may not have needed his interference but this is a moment in history that will always be remembered for the distraction.

It may be WWE's objective, going forward, to establish Bobby Lashley as someone who can defeat Drew McIntyre, even without MVP's help. This may happen at Backlash if these two bulls go at it again. Here are two men who know how to have the perfect 'big man' match, as they've proved earlier this month.

Yes, Bobby Lashley may be the heel, but the fact that he didn't beat Drew McIntyre clean may bother him, may eat him up alive. He's a dominant, monster heel in the vein of, say, Braun Strowman during the Roman Reigns feud, as opposed to the character that The Miz portrays. If WWE does go down this route, they can stretch this storyline for a while.

#4 Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley clashed at Backlash last year

Do you remember how Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley went to war at Backlash 2020?

Considering how The All Mighty hasn't taken a clean singles loss since then, it makes all the sense in the world for the storyline to come full circle.

Drew McIntyre can remind Bobby Lashley that his big loss was at Backlash last year, and he hopes to repeat the performance at WrestleMania Backlash. Obviously, you do not make threats to Bobby Lashley without consequences, as Drew McIntyre is certain to learn soon afterward.

Isn't it crazy that last year at Backlash, Drew McIntyre was the Champion and Bobby Lashley was the challenger, and the roles are reversed this time around?

These men are certain to have a great match, because they are top-tier performers and both of them are aware that they are the faces of this current generation. They have a chance to make history by waging one battle after another.

#3 Randy Orton vs. Bobby Lashley would be an all-heel contest

Bobby Lashley vs. Randy Orton would not have been the best idea. Even though both men are top-tier talents, they are both exceptional heels and the crowd would not have known whom to cheer for! Also, turning one of the two into a babyface when both are such great heels wouldn't have been a good idea.

This is why on the RAW after 'Mania, Randy Orton did not win the triple threat main event. He and Lashley can definitely battle each other down the line, hopefully when one of the two goes babyface. But at this point, they're better off as heels.

Where will Randy Orton goes from here, especially considering he's been locked in a feud with Alexa Bliss and Bray Wyatt since forever? Will he finally get to stretch his legs and potentially enter a feud without magic or tricks or black goo?

#2 We have already seen Bobby Lashley vs. Braun Strowman

Bobby Lashley vs. Braun Strowman is a route that WWE could have taken but we've been down that road before. Whether it was in an arm-wrestling contest or a tug of war, these two behemoths put on a show and to be fair, did major YouTube numbers as well. Unfortunately, it won't go down as one of the best feuds in the history of the company, by any stretch of the imagination.

We just feel like Braun Strowman is one step away from having the legitimacy to take Bobby Lashley's WWE Championship away from him.

Now that he's beaten Shane McMahon, Braun Strowman needs to run through opponents and work his way back to the top. Despite the important message he sent out through the Shane McMahon feud, Strowman is still not the babyface he once used to be. But it's only a matter of time before he regains his steam, and Bobby Lashley could be a great antagonist when that happens.

#1 Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley are like Ali and Frazier

Even before Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley met at WrestleMania, we had Vince Russo, former head writer for WWE, book Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley for our YouTube channel. He said he would book Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley like Ali vs. Frazier.

These were his comments:

"I remember one of the greatest rivalries in Boxing history was Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. The story was these guys were so evenly matched, that just one flaw, one mistake, that was going to give the other guy the advantage, and on that night that guy was going to win. But the fact of the matter was, if these guys would have boxed ten times, it could have been five-five, it could have been six-four. That’s how even it would be. Bro, that is what I would do."

It does seem like Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley will be the faces of the company going forward. And so, they will represent the title picture at the very top of the card.

Expect them to have many fights down the line like this one.
