5 Reasons why Bayley defeated Charlotte Flair to become WWE SmackDown Women's Champion

I know that a lot of fans were upset when Bayley lost her SmackDown Women's Championship to Charlotte Flair at WWE Hell in a Cell. They believed that Charlotte Flair has had way too many runs already.

Flair is someone who's incredible in the ring, who has the look that defines 'top WWE star' and is pretty much the face of the WWE Women's Division. But the fact that she's been pushed to the top of the food chain so many times has rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way.

But then, much to the surprise and amazement of one and all, Bayley re-gained the SmackDown Women's Championship in the latest episode of SmackDown on FOX. Why did WWE choose to put the title around Bayley's waist after having Charlotte win the title so recently?

The answer is actually quite clear, if you think about it, folks!

#5 Allows Charlotte Flair to move to WWE RAW

For years and years, it has seemed like SmackDown Live was the B-show, because while everything important happened on RAW, everything else was relegated to the blue brand. For the first time in the history of WWE, it finally seems like the red brand will play second-fiddle to the blue one, ever since the move to the FOX Network happened. But you cannot stack every prominent player on the blue brand, can you?

I mean RAW will still have to grant us three whole hours of content on a weekly basis, which essentially means that it will need a handful of A-grade Superstars to make up the existing roster. I have a feeling that Charlotte Flair will be feeling red in the months to follow, which should be confirmed when the draft moves on to RAW.

#4 To cement Bayley's brand new look and attitude

Bayley and Charlotte Flair were in the main event of the night, and many of you must have stifled a yawn like me. We'd seen this match only days ago at Hell in a Cell and while it was a fine match, it was no Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks. Neither was it as controversial and 'so bad that it's newsworthy' like The Fiend vs. Seth Rollins.

But then Bayley came out with a new look and I could have sworn for a second that she was Dakota Kai. She stopped by the Bayley Buddies and then with a stick, she deflated each and every one of them. We understood then that she had embraced her heel turn and was going all in, to become a truly despised character (her promo would further solidify this).

The title was WWE's way of recognizing this change in Bayley's attitude.

#3 To have Charlotte Flair break her father's record

Charlotte Flair is someone who has 10 title reigns already, and she has achieved this in a very short amount of time since she's come up to the main roster of WWE. Her father, of course, Ric Flair, is the man who stands at the pinnacle of sports entertainment with sixteen title reigns.

There were many individuals who seemed like they'd break Ric Flair's record, from John Cena (who's tied Flair's record) to Randy Orton to Triple H, but none of them have been given the opportunity to do so yet. I think that everyone is waiting for Charlotte Flair to be the one that eventually does this.

In fact, this is something that I've asked Charlotte Flair in the past in an exclusive Sportskeeda interview. She mentioned to me that this is not something she thinks about.

But maybe Vince McMahon thinks about this particular stat.

#2 To lay the foundation for Sasha vs. Bayley down the line

I love the idea of Sasha Banks dyeing her hair blue, leading to her getting picked as a SmackDown Superstar. 'The blueprint of WWE' will be on the blue brand and so, Bayley has backup for when contenders step up to her to claim her crown. But the thing about Sasha Banks is that she's nobody's sidekick, and so Bayley needs to be very scared.

We've all heard Corey Graves rant on and on about how Sasha Banks could potentially stab someone in the back when they're least expecting the same. Expect Bayley and Sasha Banks to compete for the title in due course of time. I wouldn't be surprised if WWE does this feud at WrestleMania 36.

We all know that the Women's Evolution really took off when Sasha Banks faced off against Bayley in WWE NXT. Can they recreate the magic in the main roster?

#1 Only big news coming out of SmackDown

If you actually look at the matches that took place on SmackDown Live, none of them had any kind of point or consequence really. I mean Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns was a good match, but one that ended with The Fiend's interference, so it really wasn't very exciting at all.

Baron Corbin took on Chad Gable in what was probably their millionth match against one another, and truth be told, while it was a good match, it wasn't a very exciting match. The draft picks were not surprising at all, and hence, there was no major headline coming out of the said show.

And then, Bayley would show up with a new look and attitude, and she would recapture the title. This has got Twitter buzzing and it's the coolest she's looked in quite a while.

I'm down for heel Bayley as SmackDown Women's Champion.
