5 reasons why Braun Strowman should have faced Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam instead of Seth Rollins

It should have been Strowman
It should have been Strowman

So there we have it. Seth Rollins is set to face Brock Lesnar once again and this time, it is going to be at SummerSlam. We are all back to square one in this regard as the biggest PPV of the summer is basically going to have a rematch from the Grandest Stage of Them All.

At Extreme Rules, Brock Lesnar cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to take the Universal Championship off Seth Rollins after the Beast Slayer defended it against Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans.

As a result, many expected the duo to square off against each other at the biggest party of the summer. However, I hoped that it would be Braun Strowman, and when Paul Heyman announced that there would be a 10-man Battle Royal to decide the number one contender for the Universal Championship, my hopes became bigger.

In the end, however, Seth Rollins came out winner from the match and is now the number one contender for Lesnar’s title at SummerSlam. But it should have been Braun Strowman – and here are 5 reasons why…

#5 Enough of Rollins-Lesnar

We have seen enough of this
We have seen enough of this

Seth Rollins has been feuding with Brock Lesnar for most part of the year now. At the beginning of the year after winning the Royal Rumble, Seth Rollins decided to be a fighting champion and, as a result, chose to face Lesnar at WrestleMania.

Since then, the pair have been feuding back and forth, with Baron Corbin thrown in the mix for a while in between. We have already witnessed these two at WrestleMania and now, Rollins once again finds himself challenging for the Universal Title at SummerSlam.

Lesnar is almost certain to not lose to Rollins at two of WWE’s biggest PPVs (in a proper match), which means that the feud is likely to continue beyond the summer. Repetitive.

#4 Strowman is hot now

WWE should have used Strowman's momentum
WWE should have used Strowman's momentum

Braun Strowman’s year didn’t start off in the best of fashions. In fact, ever since he lost to Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel, things have been going in a downward spiral for the Monster Among Men.

Indeed, there were reports of him having heat backstage, resulting in his push being put on hold. What happened subsequently to his character arc all but confirmed those stories… until he was pitted against Bobby Lashley.

Both Lashley and Strowman have incredible physiques and were put against each other in a battle of big men. The feud ended at WWE Extreme Rules after Strowman won the Last Man Standing encounter against the Almighty.

The match really pushed Strowman to being a hot property right now as it earned rave reviews for the brutality it had. With momentum at his side now, it would have been the right time to push him to the main event scene and have a…

#3 Proper Beast vs Monster booking

Just look at these two giants
Just look at these two giants

This should have already happened and was very close to come to fruition last year. However, in the end, it was only but a short-lived rivalry that finished before it could have even been started.

But WWE had the chance to renew it for SummerSlam this year and book it as a match of a Monster taking on the Beast. They could have hyped it as two of the biggest men in WWE tearing each other apart for the Universal Title.

I mean, just look at what happened when Strowman was pitched against a physical wonder like Lashley. Even though many doubted the feud giving out anything good, it turned out to be a spectacular story in the end that made both men look good.

With Lesnar and Strowman, things could have taken a further step in the right direction but now, that is not going to happen.

#2 Strowman knocking on the door for a while

About time WWE let him in
About time WWE let him in

Strowman won the Money in the Bank contract last year and was ready to cash it in at SummerSlam. However, Lesnar stopped him from doing so, but in the process, lost his title to Roman Reigns. After that, Strowman cashed in the contract for a match at Hell in a Cell against Reigns but Lesnar interrupted it and cost Strowman his shot at the title.

Later, when Roman Reigns had relinquished the WWE Universal Title due to his leukemia relapsing, Lesnar was booked to face Strowman at Crown Jewel. Almost everyone thought that the Monster Among Men would finally be crowned as the Universal Champion.

To the shock of many, however, Lesnar absolutely squashed Strowman and won the Universal Title for the second time in his career. Strowman, meanwhile, was left with nothing after over a year of strong showings.

So, he had been knocking on the door for a while but nobody seems to be letting him in…

#1 Paving the way for Bray Wyatt

Letting Wyatt in
Letting Wyatt in

You knew this was coming, didn’t you? After all, I did give you the hint with the last line of the previous slider. Bray Wyatt made his return in the ring on the RAW after Extreme Rules.

Fans were eagerly waiting for the moment and Wyatt didn’t disappoint as it was a perfectly executed entrance sequence for the Fiend. His comeback has generated a lot of buzz and it won’t be long before he is in the picture for the main titles.

Had Strowman been booked against Lesnar to eventually win the Universal Title, it could have paved the way for Wyatt. After all, Strowman was a member of the Wyatt Family and the two have a lot of history together.

WWE had almost endless angles to go with a potential Wyatt vs Strowman feud and maybe someday, we might get that. But this was an opportunity squandered for now.
