5 reasons why Brock Lesnar should face Cain Velasquez at Royal Rumble

It was rumored that Cain Velasquez will face Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble. However, as per new reports, Velasquez isn't scheduled to have a match against Lesnar but instead, he could appear as a surprise entrant during the Royal Rumble match.

Both Superstars had a match at Crown Jewel this year for the WWE Championship where Lesnar squashed Velasquez. Since then, both Superstars haven’t had a match on WWE Television but it’s almost a guarantee that Lesnar will defend his ittitlet the Royal Rumble. He doesn’t usually miss any of the big four pay-per-view in WWE but if he is going to face Velasquez next year, who would win the match?

It’ll be a rubber match between them, as they have a 1-1 record against each other, and it’ll be interesting to see who will be the ultimate winner. Considering Brock the fact that Lesnar is still one of the most protected Superstars of the company, we think he has a better chance than Cain Velasquez of winning this match. And here are the five reasons why this match is best for business.

#5 Great start for WWE

This year, WWE had a lot of ups and downs as well. They lost a few talented Superstars to other wrestling promotions and while there are still many talented performers in WWE, the creative aspect of their shows is still disappointing to many fans.

Many storylines had the potential to do wonders for their respective brands but in the end, it’s about the booking they receive from the writing team. If they don't book a storyline correctly, they’ll fail to do its job.

Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez share a storyline that has a lot of history. Their story goes back to 9 years when Velasquez beat Lesnar to win the UFC Heavyweight Championship. WWE just needs to give it a final touch and book it for the Royal Rumble. We hope this match will last more than it did the last time. Otherwise, it’s good to go.

Royal Rumble pay-per-view is set to happen on 27 January 2019

Royal Rumble is known for shocking the fans. Each year, Superstars from the past return to WWE and entertain the audience. A few wrestlers have also made their debut through this pay-per-view. Ronda Rousey, for instance, was one of the biggest Superstars to debut this decade at Royal Rumble.

But why should surprises be limited to just the traditional battle royal match when WWE can shock the fans through other matches as well. We know that the predictability factor doesn’t usually work during Brock Lesnar matches. Vince McMahon personally takes care of The Beast Incarnate’s booking and ensures everything will happen as he expects.

Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar is a match that can have wonderful surprises if booked correctly. Who knows? Velasquez might even defeat Lesnar for the WWE Championship. It would be a huge surprise for the WWE Universe watching the show.

#3 Would probably ensure that Brock Lesnar will face a different Superstar at WrestleMania 36

Who will face Lesnar at WrestleMania? It wouldn't be Cain if they square off at Royal Rumble!

We know that WWE doesn’t book rematches for WrestleMania very often. In some rare cases, however, the company is left with no choice but to repeat a match that has happened before at the Shows of Shows. But these cases are different from others. WWE book rematches at ‘Mania only if they have some story to show to the world. Otherwise, they would plan something else for this event.

If Cain Velasquez faces Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble and assuming he loses again, he would probably not face Lesnar again at least for the next few months. This ensures that The Beast will likely face a Superstar he hasn’t faced before or it’s been a long time since their match.

As per Tom Colohue, the current plan seems to be.

“I think based on current storylines and what certain people are doing, I think it’s more likely to be someone like Randy Orton. I think that’s a match that has a story, has a background. In 2016, obviously Brock Lesnar literally caved Orton’s skull in the middle of a match [SummerSlam], so that’s something they could revisit.”

Randy Orton vs Brock Lesnar is a story that started very well but didn’t end properly, at least for Orton. If WWE books this match for WrestleMania, it would prove to be quite a match.

#2 Cain Velasquez needs mainstream attention as he still isn’t a huge name in the wrestling business

Cain Velasquez has millions of fans all around the world, we know that. However, his fan base is that of the MMA background, and not from wrestling. Velasquez has received hefty paycheck to work for WWE but that doesn’t make him a popular figure in the wrestling industry. With less than a finger-count worth of matches, we can’t say that Velasquez is at the same status as some of the top dogs of wrestling.

Even though he had his debut WWE match against The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, Velasquez hasn’t been featured on RAW or SmackDown which has decreased his momentum. If WWE wants to use him as a prominent wrestling figure in their company, they need to put him into the spotlight, once again. And what could be better than squaring off against Lesnar for the former UFC Heavyweight Champion, especially when they both have a strong story together?

Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez failed to deliver

Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar faced each other at Crown Jewel where Lesnar retained his WWE Championship by defeating Velasquez via submission. Reportedly, WWE wanted more action from this match but due to Velasquez's injury, the plans were nixed and this is also the reason why this match ended under two minutes.

Fans wanted to witness a blockbuster match between the two and even though it wasn’t possible for the last time, WWE can provide that experience to the fans this time. Considering both Superstars will face each other at Royal Rumble, it’s almost certain that this bout will last much longer than it did the last time.

It’ll show which WWE Superstar has the potential to dominate his opponent. Will it be Brock Lesnar or Cain Velasquez? This is an interesting question that can only be answered when this match takes place.
