The 2019 WWE King of the Ring tournament has concluded, and despite a 'miracle' run in this year's tournament, Chad Gable was unable to defeat Baron Corbin in the finals on Monday Night RAW this week, making Corbin the new King of the Ring in WWE.

Tonight's episode of WWE SmackDown Live will feature the coronation of Baron Corbin as the new King of the Ring, and following the tournament, Chad Gable's future in WWE remains uncertain as SmackDown gears up for its move to FOX Sports and the roster draft takes place on October 11th.

Given the above, let's take a look at five reasons why Chad Gable lost the 2019 WWE King of the Ring tournament after making it to the finals.

#5 He made a name for himself and did not need the tournament win

Many Pro Wrestling fans will argue that wins and losses do not matter, and others will argue that they absolutely matter. One thing for sure is that the story leading up to a win or loss is typically the most important factor in a wrestling match, and WWE did a great job of building Chad Gable up to be the ultimate underdog in the King of the Ring tournament.

When it came down to Gable vs Corbin the finals, the match win would have been a great cap off to Gable's unexpected run in the tournament, but in the end, Gable made a big name for himself throughout the past month of the tournament and his stock has risen considerably in the company.

Given Gable's performance throughout the tournament, it might have been a better idea to give Corbin the win and keep Gable booked as an underdog in WWE, leading up to an even bigger match win for Gable, perhaps a U.S Championship or Intercontinental title win, down the line at an upcoming PPV event.

#4 Baron Corbin can take his heel gimmick to new heights with a KOTR win

Immediately following the King of the Ring tournament finals on RAW this week, WWE released a backstage video featuring Baron Corbin reacting to his tournament win.

Of note in the video is Corbin addressing fans and saying that he is elated that so many people are so upset that he won the tournament this year, and the quote is central to Corbin's character as a heel in WWE.

WWE officials, as well as Baron Corbin himself, know that fans don't like to see him earn major achievements like title shots and tournament wins, which is all the more reason why they book him to earn those achievements and really upset the WWE fans. It's key to his heel persona resonating with fans on better levels, which is why Corbin continues to be booked in the same manner.

With Corbin winning King of the Ring this year, he can claim the 'throne' and King garb and really play up the fact that he is a King, likely directing orders to people in his 'court' as other King of the Ring winners have done in the past.

#3 Chad Gable could be preparing for a move to NXT on USA Network

WWE is in the process of preparing its rosters for SmackDown Live's big move to FOX Sports on October 4th, but before that happens, NXT will be making its big debut on USA Network this week at 8pm EST.

NXT will be moving to USA Network on Wednesday nights permanently beginning this week, and with the roster draft taking place on October 11th, it's very possible that some names from the WWE main roster might be headed to NXT in order to help fill out the new two hour time slot given to NXT by USA.

One name who could be a great fit on the NXT roster is Chad Gable, a former Olympic wrestler who is a standout amongst in-ring talents in WWE.

Often dubbed as one of the most well-rounded in-ring talents in the entire company, Chad Gable could be a great fit for the NXT brand given the brand's track record of focusing more on the in-ring product and less on the character and mic work.

There are endless match possibilities for Gable in NXT, and a run with the NXT title could even help him in the long run if he returns to the main roster at some point.

#2 Chad Gable could enter a long feud with Baron Corbin which ends in a victory

Just because the King of the Ring tournament is over does not mean that the feud between Chad Gable and Baron Corbin is over. In fact, the feud only lasted one week and culminated in one match, meaning the finals loss for Gable could mean he is about to enter a lengthy feud with the new King Corbin.

The King of the Ring finals match on WWE Raw this week was well received by WWE fans, and most felt it was a tremendously wrestled bout from both Chad Gable and Baron Corbin. With RAW this week being the first time the two have ever met in singles competition, it's not unrealistic to think that WWE could extend the feud between Gable and Corbin in order to continue building Chad Gable's newly found momentum.

With Corbin set to receive his coronation on WWE SmackDown Live this week, the opportunity could present itself for Chad Gable to interrupt during the ceremony and wreak havoc on both the King of the Ring set and on Baron Corbin himself. The feud could even extend to the point where Gable actually challenges Corbin for the right to be called King.

#1 WWE officials are not yet behind Chad Gable as a top talent

While Chad Gable might be relatively new to some fans given his recent exposure in the King of the Ring tournament, he is no rookie in WWE as he has been with the company since 2013.

Despite being a six-year performer in WWE, Chad Gable's time in the company has been defined by meaningless booking and rare television appearances which have rendered him all but forgotten by most WWE fans.

It would seem likely that Gable is on his way towards a new push in WWE given his lengthy run in the King of the Ring tournament, but that might not be the case given WWE's track record.

On the one hand, with Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff now in charge of RAW and SmackDown respectively, previously unpushed talents are being given new life on WWE TV, which could bode well for someone like Chad Gable.

On the other hand, however, Vince McMahon still runs the show, and at the end of the day it can be very difficult to teach an old dog new tricks. If Vince and/or other WWE officials have made up their minds on Chad Gable, despite his great performance in the King of the Ring tournament, Gable's fate might be sealed despite a great tournament run.
