5 reasons why Charlotte is the greatest women's superstar

Charlotte has come into her own

They don’t call Charlotte “The Queen” for nothing.

Charlotte is on her way to greatness. Seriously, she’s pretty much already there. The daughter of legendary Ric Flair has come a long way since her NXT days. Even there, her evolution began as part of the Four Horsewomen that changed the game in NXT and transitioned to the WWE main roster.

With Bayley, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, Charlotte is a part of history and integral to the rise of women’s wrestling. Now on the Raw roster, Charlotte is the face of the historic moments that are being bestowed upon the Women’s Division.

She would be the last Divas Champion and the first Women’s Champion of the new era (can they come up with a name for it already?). She just took part in the main event on Raw – something that hasn’t been done since 2004.

She will also take part in the first Women’s Hell in a Cell match. She and Banks share these roles, and their feud is nearing the iconic status.

Forbes recently covered Charlotte in an article as to why she is indeed the Greatest of All Time. Is it too early to stake claim to that? Perhaps it is, but one can argue that Charlotte has indeed done so much since NXT and especially on the main roster in WWE.

Charlotte is competing against some of the best female talents today, namely Banks. I often say that it is a great time to be a fan of women’s wrestling, and seeing the rise and evolution in this field is inspiring the say the least.

Charlotte excels in her role on the Raw Women’s Division, and that in itself is impressive. With the new direction in WWE, she most certainly has had a strong start and continues to get better. So maybe the “greatest of all time” line to her name isn’t far off at all. Let’s look at the reasons why Charlotte is indeed the Queen.

#1 Family Legacy

Like father, like daughter

Charlotte herself says that she is “genetically superior”, and there is no denying this claim. Being the daughter of Ric Flair comes with insane pressure to follow the Nature Boy’s footsteps. Brother David Flair tried and failed at upholding the Flair family legacy years ago.

Charlotte didn’t have any prior wrestling experience before coming to NXT, and it's safe to say the saying “Like father, like daughter” applies to Flair and his daughter. Charlotte has worked hard to get where she is today and her hard work shows in the ring.

She takes her family legacy seriously and she applies what she has learned to her matches. Even when she cuts a promo, Charlotte has improved tremendously. Instead of cringing, I look forward to what Charlotte has to say on the mic.

#2 Evolution

Charlotte has come into her own and does it with Flair

Charlotte continues to get better and better every time she steps into the ring. She has grown into her character and lives it when she steps out from behind the curtain. There is a reason why she is a two-time Women’s Champion – and that is because she literally is the face that runs the place on the Raw Women’s Division.

Her presence demands attention whether it is backstage or in the middle of the ring. Charlotte embodies the “Queen” role – she’s dominant, demeaning and discerning. She doesn’t care who she has to step on or hurt to get there. That is the goal of the bad guy, to get to the top no matter what.

Charlotte has done this with flying colours and fans can’t stand her because of it. Truly a successful heel!

#3 Balancing act

Charlotte can not only do the part, she looks the part

Charlotte can win by either the Natural Selection or the Figure Eight – her top two moves to put out her opponent. She can pull out the moves or have you screaming for mercy via submission. Charlotte may have Dana Brooke by her side, but she doesn’t need Brooke to win if need be.

Charlotte can handle her matches on her own if push comes to shove. Her talent and athleticism are all she needs to produce great matches, which she has already done. While Charlotte is beautiful, the focus isn’t on that at all. Charlotte’s attire in and out of the ring makes a statement that she’s not here to play the eye candy role.

She’s here to be the greatest of all time. Charlotte has got it together and there is no arguing that fact.

#4 Top Heel

Charlotte’s opponents find they way into the Figure Eight

Razor Ramon once said “Good times don’t last but bad guys do”. This reminds me of Charlotte when it comes to the women. Charlotte’s heel run was off to a shaky start but since then she has come leaps and bounds from that. The tone of her voice and her facial expressions says it all for Charlotte.

It is apparent that Charlotte has indeed done her homework and continues to kill it every week on Raw. I mean, did you see how she stood up to Rusev this past Monday? That was an excellent moment for her as a Superstar and excellent for me as a viewer.

Charlotte absolutely owns her character and the future is bright for her regardless of the direction she goes in. After her feud with Banks, I see a feud with Brooke coming down the road. The storyline has been teased for weeks and it will be sooner rather than later when Brooke finally explodes and completes her face turn.

#5 Accomplishments

Charlotte makes history at WrestleMania

Along with Charlotte’s taglines is the accomplishments that follow. Charlotte was NXT Women’s Champion – the second woman to hold the Championship. Two months after debuting on the main roster, Charlotte would end Nikki Bella’s 301 day Divas Championship reign amidst controversy on Raw.

The Divas Championship would transition to the Women’s Championship and both Championships were around Charlotte’s waist. With Charlotte feuding with Banks, they are flirting along the lines of Trish Stratus v. Lita with huge moment makers that will define the feud and the division for years to come.

Main eventing Raw was a start, and now comes the pressure of the first Women’s Hell in a Cell match. Charlotte’s talent, athleticism, and character will be put to the test inside the cell on October 30th. But knowing how consistent Charlotte has been, she will do just fine.
