5 Reasons why Dean Ambrose turned babyface on WWE RAW before Elimination Chamber 2019

The final episode of RAW before Elimination Chamber 2019 was not an easy watch. In fact, I would have to say that even for a wrestling fan like me, this was quite a chore. But there was one interesting segment that I found quite interesting. And I had to write about it.

So, Paul Heyman and Seth Rollins had an interesting exchange in the ring. Heyman said that Rollins was not in the same league as Lesnar, while Rollins maintained that he would do anything to stand tall at the end of WrestleMania 35. And the moment the segment concluded, Dean Ambrose's trademark siren hit.

Only this time, Dean Ambrose did not get into a flurry of blows with Seth Rollins. He wished Rollins all the best for his match against The Beast Incarnate at WrestleMania 35!

Why did Dean Ambrose turn babyface out of the blue on WWE RAW?

#5 To establish EC3 as the heel

EC3's character on TV seems to be very smug and pompous. He says that he is in the 'Top 1%' and that's a very heelish thing to say. He's not even over with the WWE Universe to such an extent that he will be a babyface over Ambrose.

In fact, EC3 has not uttered a word since he got called up to the main roster, in his new gimmick. Last week, Ambrose roasted EC3 and the crowd roared in approval at their favorite Lunatic. There was no way that the crowd would root for someone new from NXT over a RAW mainstay for so many years.

As a result, I would say that the heel turn actually does make sense from WWE's perspective. It gives both characters more leeway to play to their personal strengths.

#4 Ambrose as a heel character did not seem to work

I would say that Dean Ambrose's heel run was pretty much a disaster
I would say that Dean Ambrose's heel run was pretty much a disaster

Dean Ambrose was one of the hottest acts on WWE television back when he was a babyface. His heel turn was absolutely perfect too considering nobody saw it coming on the same night that Roman Reigns relinquished his WWE Universal Championship. It established Dean Ambrose as a disgusting, dastardly figure.

But since then, Ambrose just could not get over as a heel at all. In my opinion, Ambrose's character should have translated perfectly over to the dark side. A lunatic, however lovable he is. is only one step away from heel territory.

However WWE just could not script the right story for him and not surprisingly, his heel run was a complete bust. He would drop the Intercontinental Championship to Lashley when it could have potentially established him as the company's top heel.

#3 Convincing him to say in WWE?

It is no surprise that Dean Ambrose is on his way out of the company shortly after WrestleMania 35 is done and dusted. Irrespective of what you may think of the man, Dean Ambrose is one of WWE's top stars and his departure will be a blow.

Especially if you consider the fact that Ronda Rousey may be on her way out of the company as well. Neither Roman Reigns nor John Cena will be around at all either in the weeks and months to come.

And therefore, WWE may be looking to book him like he deserves to be booked and change his mind as we head into WrestleMania 35 and beyond. WWE is going back to the well and booking Ambrose the only way they know how, as a white-meat babyface.

If they pull it off, maybe Ambrose can indeed stick around.

#2 To initiate the program with Triple H

Triple H is not going into WrestleMania as a babyface if he competes this year. And this is not just because he's one of the greatest heels of all time. It's also because he needs to be a heel on television to further the Becky Lynch storyline.

So let's assume for a minute that Dean Ambrose and Triple H are really facing each other at the 'Grandest Stage of Them All' ie. WrestleMania 35. We certainly saw a tease for the match on RAW just a couple of weeks ago. Moreover, Dean Ambrose is the only member of The Shield whom Triple H has not faced in a singles match at WrestleMania thus far.

Dean Ambrose needs time to settle in as a babyface if he is going in to challenge The Game. The face turn could have been initiated to set this feud in motion.

#1 Ambrose despises Lesnar

Remember the Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar match that we were so excited about? And then, when the match actually happened, it turned out to be an absolute dud! Ambrose has been vocal about how little he actually enjoyed the match on several occasions. In kayfabe, Ambrose and Lesnar are not good friends.

Which is why Ambrose may be expressing his solidarity towards Seth Rollins. All said and done, Rollins and Ambrose have waged wars and both have taken the other to the limit. Ambrose may also want someone like Rollins to become Universal Champion, on his way out, because the two men were once very close.
