5 Reasons why Finn Balor should not return to the WWE main roster anytime soon

It is safe to say that NXT has undergone a huge transition. The show has moved from a one hour broadcast on WWE Network to a two-hour one on USA Network, and the show needed some new blood to help carry NXT during its new venture.

One of the moves WWE made was to return Finn Balor to the brand which made him famous, NXT. The inaugural WWE Universal Champion took some time off TV following his loss at SummerSlam, and when he returned, he not only had a fresh look, but he also had a fresh brand to call home on Wednesday night.

Last week on NXT, Balor made yet another shocking move when he turned heel on both Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, attacking Mr. Wrestling and laying him out as the show went off the air.

Balor has made a tremendous impact on the NXT brand in the short time since he returned to the Wednesday night show, so let's take a look at five reasons why Balor should not return to the main roster anytime soon.

#5 The WWE main roster is already too crowded

The 2019 WWE Draft is officially in the books, and the rosters have been set for both RAW and SmackDown. Despite five hours of new programming each week from the red and blue brands, the WWE main roster remains very crowded with talents vying for a top spot in the company.

Balor's move to NXT was wise as it instantly makes him a bigger fish in somewhat of a smaller pond, and he has the ability to shine in the main event picture much brighter than he did on the main roster. Balor was always a talent many fans felt was underused on the main roster, and moving to a much less crowded NXT space should help freshen up the former NXT Champion.

#4 Triple H can use Balor better

Finn Balor's time on the WWE main roster will always carry with it one major what if. What if Balor had not suffered an injury forcing him to relinquish the Universal title?

Balor was crowned the very first WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam back in 2016, but just 24 hours later he was forced to relinquish the title after he suffered an injury during the match against Seth Rollins.

After relinquishing the title, Balor left WWE TV to recover, and many fans feel he has never been the same since returning. Balor never ascended back to the main event picture aside from a brief title feud against Brock Lesnar which ended very quickly.

Most fans and pundits would agree that Vince McMahon has not used Balor well, which is in stark contrast to the way he was used in NXT. Balor holds the distinction of being the longest-reigning NXT Champion in the history of the brand, holding the gold for 292 consecutive days. With his return to NXT, Balor could once again ascend to the place fans feel he rightfully belongs.

#3 Finn Balor can help make NXT feel less "minor league"

A good sized percentage of fans might feel that NXT is the best brand amongst the four brands currently offered by WWE, and with the Black and Gold Brand moving to two hours on USA Network, that fan opinion might be truer than ever.

Despite high quality consistency from NXT every week, others have weaponized NXT's existence as a "developmental brand" for WWE.

WWE, however, has countered any notion that NXT might be "less than" by injecting the show with a shot of star power in Finn Balor, with the hope that Balor's presence might help elevate the show in terms of mainstream audience appeal.

Balor is one of the most respected and successful Superstars in the history of the brand, so it was a very wise move on the part of WWE to shift Balor to NXT in order to show fans the Black and Yellow Brand is well on its way to becoming the new "A" show in WWE, and becoming less of a "developmental" program.

#2 The Demon vs The Fiend can eventually happens at WrestleMania

Finn Balor's time in NXT can serve two purposes, as it can elevate the Black and Gold Brand and also setup a long term game plan for his eventual return to the WWE main roster.

It remains to be seen for how long NXT will remain in its current two-hour form on USA Network, but should the show last at least two to three more years, Balor could be setting himself up for a long term move back to the WWE main roster.

At SummerSlam this year, The Fiend Bray Wyatt made quick work of Balor after it was reported that the former Universal Champion was scheduled to take some time off WWE TV after SummerSlam, so the PPV match was used to help establish and get over Wyatt's Fiend character which was relatively brand new at the time.

Finn Balor has seemingly ditched The Demon character on WWE TV, for reasons currently unknown, but if and when he does make his return to the main roster, a bout featuring The Fiend vs The Demon could be a dream WrestleMania match.

#1 Balor's success in NXT could influence other stars to move to the brand

When WWE first announced that NXT would be moving to USA Network at 8 pm on Wednesday nights, effectively beginning the Wednesday Night Wars, I feared that the company would load NXT up with big names.

However, WWE has done a great job in keeping the essence of NXT intact since it moved to USA Network, with Finn Balor being the only main roster name to move to the Black and Gold brand.

Balor's move has been a welcome change for the former Universal Champion, and next, fans will get to see Asuka and Kairi Sane, both NXT alumni, defending the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships this week on the Black and Gold brand.

While I remain steadfast in my belief that WWE should not overload the NXT roster with too many special appearances from main roster talents, names such as Finn Balor, Kairi Sane and Asuka, who are by now "legendary" graduates from brand, are a welcome addition to the "new" NXT.

Names such as Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode and other WWE stars who are currently floundering on the main roster, could find renewed success with a move back to NXT.
