5 Reasons why Goldberg is better than Brock Lesnar

Round 2?

It’s been speculated for months. Even casual fans are buzzing about it. The same guys who booed Goldberg and Lesnar out of the building at Wrestlemania over a decade ago, are now excited to see them inside the squared circle yet again.

Brock Lesnar has been booked as an unstoppable monster since Wrestlemania 30 when he ended the streak. Even though he has been squashing every single opponent, we know this won’t happen when Bill Goldberg makes his big return because of the way he’s been booked all through his life.

Which brings us to this article. Sure, Brock Lesnar is a major box office draw and a special attraction. But we honestly feel that right now, Bill Goldberg is a bigger star. Before you interject, let us explain our case. Here’s why we think Brock Lesnar is not as big a star as Bill Goldberg is!

#5 People want to see Brock Lesnar lose

A lot of the wrestling audience is bored with how Lesnar has been booked

When Kevin Nash is asked to justify why he ended Goldberg’s 173-0 streak in WCW, he says that Goldberg was getting booed at the point because he would never lose. The same is the case with Brock Lesnar right now. A lot of the wrestling audience at present is bored of Brock Lesnar’s squash matches against legitimate top superstars.

Some thought Dean Ambrose would destroy his run, others thought Randy Orton would annihilate him, but in every single case, Brock Lesnar came out looking absolutely unstoppable.

In the Goldberg-Lesnar encounter, we’re certain that Goldberg will be the crowd favourite, as everyone is sick to death of Lesnar never taking a clean pin at all.

#4 Goldberg hailed from a ‘hotter’ era of wrestling

The phenomenon of Goldberg almost put WWE out of business

In the history of wrestling, there has never been a company that’s gone up against Vince McMahon and won. However, WCW almost did. In fact, in terms of ratings, WCW was far superior to WWE at one point in time. While the mainstay of WCW was the heel stable called nWo, there were several babyfaces who tried to topple this evil faction.

First came DDP, then came a man named Sting in his black and white avatar, and then finally, there was Bill Goldberg. In under a year, he became world champion defeating Hollywood Hulk Hogan on WCW Nitro in July of 1998.

Goldberg was a far ‘hotter’ product in what was the hottest era of sports entertainment. Sure, Brock has been a mainstay since the early 2000s, but there was never as much intensity in the product as the late 90s.

#3 Absence makes the heart grow fonder

WWE fans want to see Goldberg return and kick some rear end, one more time

Sure, we don’t see Brock Lesnar on television except for special events and when ratings are hitting rock bottom. But we haven’t seen Bill Goldberg on screen for very many years. In fact, the Lesnar vs Goldberg bout in 2004 is the last time either of them were in a WWE ring till 2012, when Brock Lesnar made his big return to wrestling.

Considering the kind of reaction even a part-timer like Brock Lesnar gets when he makes his return every few months, the reaction Goldberg will get once his music hits after 12 long awaited years would be massive.

#2 Only Goldberg can help WWE in terms of ratings

WWE is desperate, and Goldberg is the only way out

While the in-ring ability of WWE stars has consistently improved over the years, the ratings have fallen with every passing year. And, it reached a record low because of the US Presidential Debate last week. WWE is desperate to create a buzz once again, and who better than Bill Goldberg to bring back older fans, and get them excited once more?

It’s a shame that with the world of talent that WWE now possesses (including Brock Lesnar), that it needs older stars to create a buzz. But such is the reality and the tragedy of the business. The return of Bill Goldberg has all of social media talking and it will be the most anticipated comeback maybe, ever.

#1 Goldberg did go over during the last match

The Lesnar-Goldberg story stands at 1-0

Brock Lesnar and Goldberg have faced each other before, as we’ve mentioned in this article. This took place at Wrestlemania 20, where the crowd booed the two of them out of the arena because it knew both were on their way out.

Both of these men were booked as unstoppable monsters. But Goldberg defeated Lesnar in that match and established himself as the bigger star. Sure, he’s much older now and Lesnar is a different beast, no pun intended. But in terms of perception, Goldberg made the beast look vulnerable.
